jdhendrickson··on Lawmakers added $1 to car insurance policies. That money paid for Flock cameras
No, your comment sounds incredibly privileged and naive.
jdhendrickson··on Is The Economist Always Wrong?
I wonder if he wrote that while on the island.
jdhendrickson··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
@dang .... do these comments seem organic to you? old accounts with almost zero karma going out of their way to use the same verbiage to compliment waymo 18 minutes after an article gets posted? .... dead internet at work.
jdhendrickson··on When two years of academic work vanished with a single click
Such a great response to this article. Scathing but enjoyable to watch. Angela is a treasure.
jdhendrickson··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
Let me get this straight. You think Rob Pike, is worried about his job being taken? Do you know who he is?
jdhendrickson··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
It's a setting on BlueSky, that the user can enable for their own account, and for people of prominence who don't feel like dealing with drive by trolls all day, I think it's very reasonable. One is a money grab, and the other is giving power to the user.
jdhendrickson··on Migrating the main Zig repository from GitHub to Codeberg
I don't see this site as being the spiritual successor to /. at all, the audience is much more money focused and much less software focused. I miss /. as a low 5 digit user there.
jdhendrickson··on Migrating the main Zig repository from GitHub to Codeberg
And yet the amount of work time I've missed out on from github being down is slightly concerning in retrospect. I imagine the smaller scale of codeberg will actually lead to more uptime despite chaos monkey's best efforts.
jdhendrickson··on My Git history was a mess of 'update' and 'fix' – so I made AI clean it up
Bit of a leap.
jdhendrickson··on Is the decline of reading making politics dumber?
If you are in the USA and don't believe the ratio of bullshit to reality has changed, I would like to know what news sources you are using.
jdhendrickson··on Kagi Reaches 50k Users
Googles seemingly inexorable slide into becoming unusable seems to have picked up speed around then.
jdhendrickson··on I made a chair
Most pressure treated lumber eschews the old arsenic method. Most only have copper and an anti fungal (Tebuconazole) in it. Perfectly safe for an outdoor chair.
jdhendrickson··on Adipose tissue retains an epigenetic memory of obesity after weight loss
While I don't doubt you, it would be helpful if you cited these experts, so people can learn.
jdhendrickson··on Sports supplement creatine makes no difference to muscle gains, trial finds
Yes, if you were not experiencing a need for recovery, you were not providing enough stimulus. I was a powerlifter. there were times when I couldn't walk the next day. recovery is a major factor.
jdhendrickson··on Europe's most wanted man plotted my murder and that of my colleague
It depends on who writes the history books in the states, and it's not looking good.
jdhendrickson··on FDA meeting to pick next winter's flu shot is canceled, in ominous sign for US
have you considered the possibility that despite sanewashing this, it is really a problem? That the current administration is not normal? That perhaps there really is cause for alarm?
jdhendrickson··on Suckless.org: software that sucks less
Strange, it actually endeared him to me. Thanks for the link. I guess some crusty part of me enjoys seeing someone who actually knows what they are talking about not putting up with whiny demanding randos on the internet. I might even give kitty a second chance on windows, to clarify I don't think you are wrong to feel the way you do, it just gave me a chuckle how differently different people parse things.
jdhendrickson··on Docker limits unauthenticated pulls to 10/HR/IP from Docker Hub, from March 1
Agreed, it seems like a bunch of people in this thread are scared of having to setup authentication and monitoring, but are not scared of chain attack in the latest docker image they never even looked at.
jdhendrickson··on Docker limits unauthenticated pulls to 10/HR/IP from Docker Hub, from March 1
Devsec/ops guy here, the fact that you were pulling public images at all ever is the thing that is insane to me.
jdhendrickson··on Emerging reasoning with reinforcement learning
Eloquently said.
jdhendrickson··on Romanian court annuls result of presidential election first round
Not much worth arguing about in this thread. Multiple sleeper accounts and coopted accounts with the same talking points about how someone who used illegal means to sway votes should just be allowed to take the reins of power with a fine. It's not logical and isn't real discussion just the same nefarious actors using social media to try to sway opinion. Get that good nights sleep and I'm glad your country didn't succumb to this new method of warfare like mine did.
jdhendrickson··on Hetzner raises prices while significantly lowering bandwidth (US)
Can vouch for HiVelocity under the previous owners anyway, not sure what's going on over there now. My companies launch was bandwidth and compute intensive and they handled it well.
jdhendrickson··on Developing a cancer drug without Big Pharma: this hospital shows it can be done
I am sorry for your loss, you lived through my biggest fear. It must be so frustrating to read this kind of thing over and over.
jdhendrickson··on Premature Graying of Hair: Review with Updates
Thanks!
jdhendrickson··on Premature Graying of Hair: Review with Updates
Would you mind sharing a brand or a link? I have had grey hair since I was in my 20s and struggle with energy. I have been taking nature made multi vitamin for a vitamin b deficiency that was high enough to cause craggy edges on my tongue, caused by the stomach acid suppressant I was prescribed. I would like to compare.
jdhendrickson··on You too can write a book
As someone that has bought your books in the past, it's because of your personality and the quality of your writing more than the platform.
jdhendrickson··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
I find this attitude strange. I am a very physically fit man, I do not know what it is like to walk in the shoes of someone who has an addiction to food, but I do know people eat themselves to death. People deal with debilitating diseases that are directly linked to the amount they are eating. People literally destroy their body and live in the wreckage, and you think that it's not an addiction? If not an addiction what exactly is going on?
jdhendrickson··on Kudzu, the vine that never ate the South (2015)
Driving through dead forests covered in this vine on my way to PA from TX, I would respectfully disagree with their premise. When allowed to proliferate it strangled everything visible from the highway, and covered every inch of the hundreds of standing dead wood trees it had killed.
jdhendrickson··on Why US renters are taking corporate landlords to court
calling other offices didn't involve sending a representative from a company to make sure that you were pricing in line with the algorithm and if you weren't pricing in line with the algorithm punishing you by excluding you from being able to use the services, it is cartel-like behavior. there is a severe problem with this.
jdhendrickson··on YouTube's Legal Team sent me a letter [video]
He's been frustrated with dating and women for a long time and there have been hints of that bullshit for a while. It's why I find it difficult to watch him anymore.
