jdelsman··on 386-DX/SX support nuked from Linux Kernel
386-DX was my first PC. This is incredibly sad, even more so because it makes me realize I'm getting old!
jdelsman··on Google cuts Cloud Storage prices another 10% after Amazon S3 price cut
OH NO SHE DIDNTTTTTT
jdelsman··on Chinese government blocks Google.com, Gmail, Google+, Maps, Docs and more
What else is new?
jdelsman··on Track Hurricane Sandy
That sounds like good advice. I'll go ahead and implement. Thanks!
jdelsman··on Track Hurricane Sandy
It offers additional data you can't get elsewhere, lets you backtrack in time, lets you see buoy data in relation to the current storm path, and all in something that allows you to zoom. In the future, it will allow for storm updates via FB message, tweet, SMS, etc. and allow for alerts when a storm's forecast margin of error enters your zip code.
jdelsman··on Here Come The Tweets: Gnip Offers Access to Full Twitter Archive
I thought it was awesome until I read "publically" on their site, and then clicked away. If they can overlook a spelling mistake on their website, how can they be trusted to archive PUBLICLY available tweet since 2006?
jdelsman··on Square introduces monthly pricing
I honestly wish they had some kind of affiliate program. I'd make so much money pimping Square out to local businesses, especially the ones I truly care about. I am so sick of being told: "Sorry, we don't accept AMEX" or simply "Sorry, we don't accept credit cards." Are you kidding? It is 2012!
jdelsman··on Stripe And A/B Testing Made Me A Small Fortune
It might be trivial to charge, but storing credit card details and remaining PCI compliant is a nightmare for businesses, especially at scale. Trust me -- getting audited and fined because you're not PCI complaint is much more expensive than giving the burden to another company like Stripe. Plus, Stripe is great because they don't hold your customers' data hostage.
jdelsman··on My Google HR Response
Theoretical linguistics was an example.
jdelsman··on Microsoft launches Outlook.com, a clean, fresh take on webmail
Oh wow, four icons. Give me a break. Look at the Google Page Speed score for that site, then tell me I'm wrong.
jdelsman··on Google Wallet moves to the cloud, opens up to all credit and debit cards
For those of you who wonder why Starbucks and others continue to support their own card apps instead of PayPass/Google Wallet: credit card fees. Starbucks loads up $25 at a time, with a single $0.30 fee (or whatever they are charged), rather than having to pay $0.30 per small $3 (iced coffee, for example) transaction.
jdelsman··on Microsoft launches Outlook.com, a clean, fresh take on webmail
Horrible. They don't sprite their icons, and it takes forever to load. This is Microsoft's idea on a "clean, fresh take on webmail?" close
jdelsman··on Introducing Outlook.com - Modern Email for the Next Billion Mailboxes
How is this innovative or modern? They don't even sprite their icons. Microsoft: don't waste my time.
jdelsman··on My Google HR Response
It's annoying that even if you have a degree in Theoretical Linguistics or something absurd like that, you can still get a software/hardware engineering job at Google. Google really need to think harder about their approach to hiring if they want to remain a powerhouse. What happens when, in the near future, the computer science graduating pool (i.e. the "bubble") becomes flooded with losers who don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to building a great product for the web or anything else?
jdelsman··on Samsung reveals pre iPhone concepts
Since when does providing pre-iPhone iPhone-like designs mean this is an open and close case? Does that mean that someone from Samsung didn't "steal" the iPhone designs while they were being prototyped? The iPhone was being developed for almost ten years, according to multiple sources. So, how is this open and close again? Am I missing something?
jdelsman··on Heroku Releases Free PostgreSQL App for OSX
brew install postgres

Done. How is this useful?

jdelsman··on [dead]
That's pretty expensive considering most banks do it for free, even when you have a free account with them...
jdelsman··on Private Sector Edges Deeper in Space
I want to see some hard numbers on savings in form of an infographic come from one of these companies, particularly SpaceX. Let's see how much NASA has been overspending the last few decades...
jdelsman··on The Three Kinds of Startup CEOs
Technical CEO?
jdelsman··on Amazon S3 Price Reduction
(Bandwidth prices not withstanding.)

10,000,000,000 GET requests on Amazon = $1,000.00 (0.01/10000 reqs) 10,000,000,000 GET requests on Rackspace = $0.00 (FREE)

1,000 GB on Amazon = $125.00 (0.125/gb) 1,000 GB on Rackspace = $150.00 (0.15/gb)

Total Amazon: $1,250.00 Total Rackspace: $150.00

That's what he's getting at.

jdelsman··on If you're using Node.js, you're doing life wrong
His comment about node.js only being able to use a single core is bullshit, and has been for a while:

* Before native support: https://github.com/learnboost/cluster

* Now, native: http://nodejs.org/docs/latest/api/cluster.html

jdelsman··on Show HN: Fed up with WebEx, so we built a way to screen share in under 20 sec.
Awesome product!
jdelsman··on Iran Releases Video Of Captured US Drone Plane
My bet is that the US wants them to try to use the technology to either a.) get another Stuxnet into their computers while they download data from it, or b.) see them try to use it and ultimately embarrass themselves in the process.
jdelsman··on Mint.com turns 404 ad page into date ad for developer
I emailed him; never heard back :(
jdelsman··on With $2 Million In Funding, Senzari Prepares To Take On Pandora
Whoop!
jdelsman··on Ask HN: Shouldn't we be pissed that sites like Grooveshark exist?

jdelsman··on Linode Fremont Down
Dallas is much better than Fremont. I moved all servers after their first outage months ago.
jdelsman··on Duomi.fm Clones Turntable.fm, Chinese DJs Drop Beats
This is sad.
jdelsman··on More TechCrunch drama as Arrington-backed startup wins blog's contest
Was anyone really surprised?
jdelsman··on Baidu forks Android to introduce its own mobile OS for China
Android has been blocked in China? Since when? I'm sure the 4,000-odd employees of Motorola in China developing Android phones for sale in China would disagree with you...
