jcriddle4··on Audi CEO Stadler Taken Into Custody in Diesel-Cheating Probe
If the share holders knew about it then yes they should get a hair cut. Since they didn't it makes much more sense to hold the CEO liable. In theory shareholders can replace a CEO but in practice it is just about impossible. The theory where the CEO skips all liability, as is sometime the case in the US, is a recipe for this behavior to continue.
jcriddle4··on The Nightmare Letter: A Subject Access Request Under GDPR
Yes you are correct. What are the costs compared to the benefits? Is the additional privacy going to be worth it? If we discover a few years from now that European companies are sharing roughly the same amount of data with other companies as their American counterparts, just documenting it better, have you gained anything?
jcriddle4··on The Nightmare Letter: A Subject Access Request Under GDPR
About 50% of small business survive their 5th year and roughly 30% survive to their 10th year. The concern is the drip/drip effect of more and more regulation making those numbers even worse. In addition you may be saying to a poor or middle class person that the money costs of starting certain types business are not longer in reach due to much higher costs. A large well established business is in a much better position to weather these costs so the wealthy get wealthier. What are the costs compared to the benefits?

jcriddle4··on Gab is suing Google for allegedly violating antitrust laws
Yes but Google can always decide that because of x or x + 1 you are not in compliance and the real reason is your politics but they will never admit to it. Because Gab has more conservatives one real question is google always going to find reasons to deny when some of the same stuff is happening on twitter etc? Also does google get to decide that something say fails TOS because of support of say someone like Trump just not as famous? Does google get to decide what "such content" is? Does google get to decide who gab bans from gab's network or just which posts are censored?

You jest about WalMart but actually if they are a monopoly then yes they could be though of as common carrier. A much better solution is to break them into pieces.

Also I haven't seen any data on what happens if you break a bone in low or zero gravity. Would it even heal?
jcriddle4··on Living on Mars: The Stuff You Never Thought About
The Mars Society has been doing a reduced version of this for several years now with different groups of volunteers. I think they use two different locations, with one being in a Antarctic like location.

??? The term "Welfare State" was not what captured my attention. The whole article reads like very modern vocabulary. Here is an article on how your vocabulary can be used to predict age/gender/personality. https://www.vocabulary.com/articles/under-the-hood/how-your-...
jcriddle4··on In 1939, I didn’t hear war coming
"... eroded democracy and social justice, and savaged the welfare state with austerity...". The article just reads like very modern terminology like it was written by someone in their twenties or thirties. Not that people's vocabulary cannot change over time but it seems odd.

"Why is this a problem, as long as everyone is not worse off?". Well actually for a large number of people it is getting worse. Here is data on middle class losing ground: http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2015/12/09/the-american-middl...

Yes it definitely should be, as a matter of fact I think anything you post is propaganda and should be deleted. /s
jcriddle4··on Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent US Elections [pdf]
Dear lord a dozen countries could use this style of "evidence" to support the notion that the BBC(British Broadcasting) is deeply involved in nefarious election influencing. I believe in freedom of speech including Russia's ability to talk and influence. All the evidence not directly related to hacking is just completely inappropriate. This "proof" doesn't help their case against Russia. They should be focusing a narrow remit on the like's of Gucifier and Wikileaks. What a mess.

jcriddle4··on To end the affordable housing crisis, Washington needs to legalize Main Street
Well lots of people can barely afford a home let alone try and get a home with a garage or driveway. In addition how do home owners anticipate that some nearby development, 5 or 10 years later, is going to go in without parking? Especially since the city council on several occasions has promised to require a reasonable amount of parking for new buildings.
jcriddle4··on To end the affordable housing crisis, Washington needs to legalize Main Street
Small lots means no garage or even driveway so street front park is all you get. Imagine forking over several hundred thousand for a house and then a few years later finding out that you cannot park in front of your own home like you have done for years.
jcriddle4··on To end the affordable housing crisis, Washington needs to legalize Main Street
Parking requirements repeal? Ask the residents of Portland how that works. What happens is a large apartment goes in without parking and suddenly home owners nearby cannot park their cars anywhere and everyone is angry.
jcriddle4··on Vancouver Tax on Empty Homes to Target Near-Zero Rental Supply
Actually I think something like it used to exist. While not a "margin call" a bank could call you and tell you to repay the full amount immediately. I think even today some loans are structured so if you miss a few payments the full amount becomes due. In theory, in a more libertarian market, a loaner could structure the loan any way they pleased.
