Jaghanivasan's work is great. They did an awesome job on our new logo.

jbhelms··on Poll: How many hours do you work a week?
I work 40 at my day job, then I easily put another 40+ into my startup.

Are you the person from the original thread? If so how can we contact you? I don't want to join a new site to leave you a message.
jbhelms··on Ask HN: Startups and independents, what do you do about health insurance?
If you have a Tax ID and at least two people that want the insurance, you can get a small business policy. Just do a google search for brokers.
jbhelms··on Amazon's Tax Stance Unfair and Unethical
There is another way to go about this. Force Amazon and other online retailers to send copies of sales to all the states that purchases are made. Then the states can decide what to do with this information. It would only take a handful of audits before people paid the use taxes like they are supposed to.

jbhelms··on What technologies are under your site
It incorrectly stated that my site uses cold fusion.
jbhelms··on 154 websites that store your password in plain text
Just because a website can email you your password doesn't mean they store them in plain text. They can store them in a reversible encryption scheme like rijndael.
jbhelms··on Ask HN: How to go about getting seed funding?
Fundraising can be a full time job in itself. If you are looking for opinions only, I would suggest option A.

If you can afford to outsource the work with your current capital then you can do that, but if you are going to fund-raise then you need to be prepared for it to take up a lot of your time.

jbhelms··on Robots.txt is a suicide note
The only thing I have ever used robots.txt for is to stop from leaking pagerank. I have a folder called /redirect/ and i exclude that folder in my robots.txt. I then link to sites like this /redirect/?l=www.mysite.com

Anything I don't want archived, I put behind a login wall.

jbhelms··on Ask HN: What do you develop with?
Am I the only .Net Developer here?

OS: Windows 7

Language: C#

Editor: VS 2010

jbhelms··on Ask HN: How to give a client a website?
Really depends on how hands on you want to be. For my clients, I keep all of their domains under our company GoDaddy account. That allows me to make changes at 2AM if something comes up. It also means that we don't have to get a password from them. We bill them annually for the domain name and ssl, and we host them on our servers.

But, if you are only doing the design and development and then not handling their hosting, i recommend that you let them set up an account on Godaddy and send you the username and password to upload.

jbhelms··on Buying VMWare Fusion: A lesson in how to drive customers away
I notice that no one has mentioned Hyper-V yet. While it isn't perfect it is free. Mind you, you do need to be running Windows Server, but if you are already running windows you should consider it.

I am curious how it stands up to all the others. Virtual Box didn't have it in their grid.

jbhelms··on Y Combinator founder: there is no tech bubble
Even if there is a tech bubble, so what. You just need to do due diligence when dealing with a company. Does the company offer true value or is it a fad? For example, FaceBook. yes, there are millions of people on there, but their revenue source is from ads that have little ROI. Zynga is another one, how long can you convince people to keep buying dresses for your virtual pig?
jbhelms··on Poll: How do you bill recurring payments?
I use the Google Checkout recurring payments. I think it is still in beta, but it hasn't failed me yet.
jbhelms··on Poll: Where do you work?
On contract with HP during the day, but I have a startup in my spare time.
jbhelms··on Startup I work at just pivoted towards an idea I am designing in my spare time.
In Cambridge Engineering, Inc. v. Mercury Partners they found that the non-compete clause was so broad as to keep the employee from finding reasonable work, so it was thrown out. In this case, you signed the non-compete agreement while your company was performing A, now they want to perform B which is something you do on the side. My guess would be that in order to enforce B they would need you to sign a whole new NCA. I would check with a lawyer though.
jbhelms··on Ask HN: What kind of payment methods do devs like?
I personally like fixed monthly or yearly. It is easy for me to budget for that. I would hate for me to run out of credits and my site stop working, and on the same token, I would hate to get a $1500 bill and I was only expect $30.
jbhelms··on Goodbye Facebook
alas, for every person that delete their profiles there is another 2-3 that sign up. I am not saying that is sustainable, but they are growing. This is especially true in Asia where in the last 2 years has quadrupled.
jbhelms··on More than half age 25-29 only have cell phones
Google voice can dial an existing landline. What i mean is when i get home, I want to be able to place my cell into a cradle and when it rings it rings all the home phones, and calls made from any of the phones in the house would route through the cell network using my phone.
jbhelms··on More than half age 25-29 only have cell phones
This is not really surprising. I have a VOIP home phone, but only because I don't want to chase down my cell when it rings. If i could just have my cell phone work like a cordless phone at home, i.e. all the phones in the house ring when my cell rings, then I would use just my cell.
jbhelms··on [dead]
It sucks to be laid off at anytime, let alone at the end of the year (not because of Christmas). This is the worst time of the year to be looking for a job. I hope they got a decent compensation package to make it through the start of next year.
jbhelms··on Should there be some sort of moderator for Facebook's "Questions?"
If they don't do something they will just become another Yahoo answers. Littered with troll answers that get voted up, and offer no real insight.
jbhelms··on Ask HN:With the talk of Chargify recently ...
I wonder if they could pull off a paid support subscription. You pay like $100 a year or something and get live phone or chat support.

jbhelms··on What Happens At Y Combinator
What do you recommend to the founders that can't move to the bay area? Like people who own homes, have a family, etc? I know the YC requires it. I once emailed and asked about commuting because my co-founder and I both live in Sacramento, but the person who answered my email basically said that commuting is not feasible.
jbhelms··on I Hate Captcha- Come beta test my alternative
when I went to go sign up this is what i saw: http://imgur.com/QGEhB.png

I would suggest not using that banner on that page. While one could just click hide, it is just one more step for a user to say "nah, why bother".

BTW, that was in FireFox 3.6.8 on Windows 7 Professional
