jbchoo··on Ask HN: What SaaS softwares have you subscribed to?
Not him but me. Email Gsuite and Mailjet for transactional emails. CRM is Hubspot CRM.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: What SaaS softwares have you subscribed to?
Same here. Email CRM and DevOps i.e. db hosting etc...

Email using GSuite and Mailjet. Mailjet isn't good. Their customer service is really bad for their paid plan. I have delivery issue and am still waiting for their reply after 2 days.

jbchoo··on Ask HN: Best practices for SaaS billing with Stripe
Use subscription IMO

Have you tried Stripe https://stripe.com/docs/billing/subscriptions/integrating-se... ?

jbchoo··on Ask HN: Preferred SaaS Purchasing Options
Agree
jbchoo··on How to Create a Subscription SaaS Application with Django and Stripe
Great article. It will be great for the Angular community if it is Angular + Stripe. It is so hard to find one for Angular + Stripe. A good one like how you wrote it.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: SaaS founders how often do you get requests for buying your source code?
Great idea. Partnership/sales agreement. Thanks for sharing.

One part of me finds it hard to establish trust, not to mention make deal, with people using public email domains like @gmail.com @hotmail.com etc...

jbchoo··on Fundamentals of Product-Market Fit

jbchoo··on Ask HN: How to pursue acquisition?
Fight on. Take on the competition. My suggestion is to take a good vacation break and re-energise. After which, take on the competition and emerge stronger than your competitors. Fight on!

One of the comments has a great point: "You won't get THAT much cash for it, and you might end up at a engineering job that doesn't suit you, with golden handcuffs so you don't leave."

Yes his course is good. Not sure if up to date. But worth doing. I am doing it now.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: To those who became fluent in a second language, what did you do?
Singapore education system: bilingual mindset. How long? Since birth, 20 over years.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Loggly and Papertrial?
I am the questioner of this post. More specifically, what client-side javascript log management would you recommend for React or Angular?

Alternatives to Loggr?

jbchoo··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Loggly and Papertrial?
Thank you for mentioning these. Have you come across any blogs or articles that compare these service providers? I am interested to know how people make their decision who to go with.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Loggly and Papertrial?
Log analysis. REST call to these log management services. Error alert. What else more should I consider when assessing a log management service provider? Do you have a list/approach to how you would assess log management service provider?
jbchoo··on Ask HN: What software do you use for project and resource management?
It's interesting to see such thread asking abt project mgt tools. Some time last year in forum like reddit or hn (cant rmb), i rmb seeing similar thread and i saw Trello mentioned many times.

At here i don't even see trello.

jbchoo··on Ask HN: If one works over 40hrs/week, can they claim more years of experience?
Ppl in Singapore work minimally 44 hrs/week. And generally ppl work way more than that minimum req. If the claim system you asked would be implemented as world standard, I think most singapore residents would be over the moon, rushing to update their resume now.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: Is anyone else depressed, reading about all the success stories ?
It's nice seeing people suggesting abt being mindfulness. Although I didn't read this book, but I understand what you mean here. Nice recomm.

Since we are talking about this, just a little reminder for interested ppl, it's more important to practice meditation than only reading any book on mindfulness.

Meditation is mental training. Understand it by practising meditation. Also for us to note is that negative thoughts are a defilement of our mind, abandon it :)

jbchoo··on Ask HN: Is anyone else depressed, reading about all the success stories ?
No I'm not feeling that depression you're talking abt. I feel motivated. And amazed at how their stories got marketed so well. Who are the heroes behind all these publicities? How can I learn from these actions to create that level of reactions.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: Engineering Degree: Mathematics and Statistics vs Software?
I'm assuming you are talking Bachelor. If I were in your I would go for Stats and Math. And during my free time I would pick up a programming book. Also try to contribute to open-source project. It's on the job learning.

Why am I recommending this? Because I started with software engineering. And now that I want to do data science I know nothing. I find it really hard to get started with free courses online. I lack foundation in strong stats, linear algebra and etc. It is just so difficult to acquire these from books for me.

jbchoo··on Ask HN: What tips do you have for a life of active, independent learning?
Hello Zadyree,

Your perspective is interesting. I'm interested to find out more. Could you describe in detail what do you mean by "the best... FACE the problem BEFORE... knowledge."?

Best wishes,

Jek

jbchoo··on What Angular2 tutorial (book/screencast) should I purchase now?
I have just purchase ng-book-2 5 minutes ago. As far as my research shows, it's the most relevant learning material at this point.

I have decided to stop thinking and researching. Decided to give it a go for $39. If it's not suitable for me, it's just that amount.

Definitely better than wasting my effort thinking and researching.

jbchoo··on What Angular2 tutorial (book/screencast) should I purchase now?
You have a point. Thanks.
jbchoo··on Ask HN: What's your morning routine? Be specific!
it's great to find like-minded people here. We start our day with meditation. We form habits. I have something to share about meditation with regards to the issues you mentioned. Please let me know if you find this helpful.

Meditation is a mind training. The goal of this training is to be mindful in every aspect of our lives. Before I elaborate on this, I would like to touch on a few other key words such as dwelling, wandering, and tug of war.

Our mind wanders all the time. For example, I might be programming in front of my computer and yet my mind wandered to think about e.g. pornography. Here I see that our mind is pulled to temptation.

Our mind dwells on issues all the time. For example, my partner might accuse me of being indecisive. And I feel unjust about this statement. I'm angry and upset about this matter. I'm angry and upset because my mind dwells on it. My mind keeps thinking about it. Then when I'm hungry all I think about is finding food to eat and I consume the food. Following this, I might realised that I am no longer angry and upset. Why? It's because our mind doesn't dwell on the issue anymore. Instead our mind focus on finding food, and consuming it.

According to my Bhante, Buddha notes that our mind is like a monkey trying to grab on to branches and branches. I hope I'm making sense here, because I'm also learning to be mindful through the practice of meditation. I am still learning. On a personal note, I try to meditate every morning right after waking up. And every night before turning in. I try to meditate for 10 mins each session.

Going back to my point on the goal of meditation. The goal is to be mindful in every aspect of our lives. Ultimately, we should see ourselves bringing our mind to the present/awareness (that means not wandering/dwelling like monkey grabbing branches) in a blink of an eye or a snap of a finger. For example, if I am driving, I should focus on driving and not wander/dwell on something else. If my mind wandered I should be able to bring it back to my awareness that I'm driving on the road in a blink of an eye.

In my opinion, to iron out the issues you're facing with meditation I recommend that you seek a mentor/teacher. For me, I learnt a lot from and am still learning from my Bhante. He is truly a great teacher. PM me anytime if you have any thing to clarify. jek.bao.choo@gmail.com
