jayrwren··on Ask HN: What's You Opinon on XMTP
I think you are conflating XMTP with XMPP. XMTP is some new-ish blockchain bullshit. XMPP is the old messaging protocol.
jayrwren··on Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?
literally the top link when I search for his exact text "why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?" https://lock.cmpxchg8b.com/anubis.html Maybe travis needs more google-fu. maybe that includes using duckduckgo?

jayrwren··on What happened to blogging for the hell of it?
blogging died when google killed google reader.

yes, some other readers tried, but nothing was as fast and as nice to use as google reader.

jayrwren··on What happened to blogging for the hell of it?
bruh, that loads WAY too fast. you gotta slow that role, have a splash, prompt for signing up for newsletter, display some ads, prompt to disable ad blocker, etc etc.
jayrwren··on Can’t send email more than 500 miles (2002)

jayrwren··on How we deploy faster with warm Docker containers
I don't see how this has anything to do with faster Docker containers. Looks more like faster python distribution.

WTF https://www.gibhut.com
jayrwren··on MicroK8s – Low-ops, minimal Kubernetes, for cloud, clusters, Edge and IoT
seaweedfs seems pretty great for a cloud storage: http://seaweedfs.github.io
jayrwren··on Math Problems for children from 5 to 15 (2004) [pdf]

#4: vivint smart home already has #4, including an app called streetwatch which does the multi-camera with neighbors grouping.

#10: a mouse is a mammal. perhaps author meant apes?

jayrwren··on I thought I understood recursion
I feel the opposite. I find the C# more readable than the Haskell. I haven't written C# regularly in 10yrs.
jayrwren··on I thought I understood recursion
came here to point out that the author doesn't seem to know C# very well if they don't know about Enumerable.Range.
jayrwren··on Show HN: A Senior Engineer's CheckList
> It's essentially the scientific method.

I had never considered this before and it is right and true.

Thank you for enlightening me.

jayrwren··on Database IDs Have No Place in URIs (2008)
Pretty sure the last 10yrs of stackoverflow proves that this is not a concern.

I'd file this under: things to not worry about.

jayrwren··on Ask HN: What is your money-making side project outside programming?
+1

Who needs a side project when the day job is enough and there are loved one with whom we have limited time.

Live is short. Take time to enjoy it.

jayrwren··on 58 Bytes of CSS to look great nearly everywhere
This is definitely better than nothing.

jayrwren··on SQL databases come up with algorithms you’d never have dreamed of (2017) [video]
When .NET introduced LINQ this is 90% of what the .NET world talked about for the next 3yrs.
jayrwren··on SQL databases come up with algorithms you’d never have dreamed of (2017) [video]
reminds me of the presentations coming out of the .NET world in 2005 after they launched LINQ. Nearly identical points being made.
jayrwren··on The CRISPR Baby Scandal Gets Worse by the Day

Forking a process per request is expensive, interpreter or not.

Slashdot used apache mod_perl back then. It never forked a process per request.

jayrwren··on Abandoned rape kits identify over 800 serial rapists in one Michigan county

You have to look west and south of detroit to see wayne county that isn't detroit

jayrwren··on Minideb – A small image based on Debian designed for use in containers
Go code with C dependencies.
jayrwren··on Minideb – A small image based on Debian designed for use in containers
I love minideb. It is a great compromise when you need glibc but would have otherwise used alpine.
