jayemar··on US House approves FISA renewal – warrantless surveillance and all
Is your rational for this proposed party split that it's "big government" and therefore Republicans wouldn't like it and Democrats would?
jayemar··on FreeCAD Project Association 2023 Annual report and 2024 plans
Watching MangoJelly tutorials was also what made me feel like I was finally starting to understand FreeCAD. I can't recommend them enough.
jayemar··on F-35 Cleared for Full-Rate Production 17 Years After Its First Flight
I agree with your take on aesthetics, and would also add the MiG-29
jayemar··on Nvidia CEO says "coding is a dying profession"
This seems to me like it would be easier than having it create a greenfield project. The legacy code tells the AI the needed functionality so I would think in the near future an AI could rewrite something in a more concise way with the same style throughout, even adding useful comments and docstrings.
jayemar··on Keycloak SSO with Docker Compose and Nginx
SSO is Single Sign On for those as lost as me. SSO allows a user to log in one time and then access multiple services securely.
jayemar··on Ask HN: Are there any conferences for bootstrapped hardware businesses?
I wish there were a better way to find conferences. If I hear about one it's usually because it just happened and I missed it.
jayemar··on Birb and Fossil: An RSS Revival?
Many RSS readers implement a "share" button that can be used to post to a mastodon account. Is this different than the workflow you're describing?

jayemar··on Most of Us Are Blissfully Ignorant About How Much Rancid Olive Oil We Use (2016)
What is your reason for saying this? The article does discuss rancid, not just mis-categorized pressing.
jayemar··on I paid for Sublime Text
You didn't really answer their question, you really only said that you find it more comfortable working with Typescript than with Python. Are you aware of a way to install custom Typescript code as an extension without needing to go through the build and install process in VSCode, similar to the way a Python file can be pulled in by Sublime if placed in a specific folder?
jayemar··on A Zettelkasten Explodes Thought: Rhizomes, Intertextuality, & Ideative Pillaging
To me that seems to miss the point. Zettelkasten forces you to really think about your notes, about how you really understand them and how they relate to each other. If you hand this off to an automation process then it's not really zettelkasten, it's just refactoring your notes.
jayemar··on Visual Studio Code adds port forwarding
According to the docs[0], you need to log in to Github in order to share a port. Can anyone explain why this would be necessary? I understand it if the port is set up as private (as explained in the doc), but not if it's set up as public. Is the traffic being routed through h Github? 0: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/port-forwarding
jayemar··on Ask HN: Who here is working on DARPA AICC challenge?
Artificial Intelligence Cyber Challenge for those as confused as me. Link to a DARPA post discussing it: https://www.darpa.mil/news-events/2023-08-09
jayemar··on Classical music is for everyone
That was riveting, thank you
jayemar··on How to choose the right Python concurrency API
There's a lot of functionality in the multiprocessing library and it has its own problems, but I wouldn't call it a "mess" from your description. map, starmap, and imap are all useful for different applications depending on your usage and priorities. I'll agree that it can sometimes be difficult to understand the differences and which is best for your use case, but having used in different use cases I certainly appreciate the different functions available.
