jayantbhawal··on State of engineering productivity (Study by Google) – Dora Report 2024
Here's the overview from their site:

DORA has been investigating the capabilities, practices, and measures of high-performing technology-driven teams and organizations for over a decade. This is our tenth DORA report. We have heard from more than 39,000 professionals working at organizations of every size and across many different industries globally.

This report highlights the significant impact of AI on software development, explores platform engineering’s promises and challenges, and emphasizes user-centricity and stable priorities for organizational success.

jayantbhawal··on X changed its terms of service to let its AI train on everyone's posts
tl;dr for those who don't want to open CNN:

X's new terms of service, effective November 15, 2024, now allow the platform to use public posts to train its AI models. Users' content can be collected and adapted for various uses, which has raised privacy concerns.

jayantbhawal··on Foursquare is shutting down
End of an era. Yet, I've not needed to use it in YEARS because for me, Google Maps has just been good enough, or in some areas, better even.
jayantbhawal··on Meta fires staff for 'using free meal vouchers to buy household goods'
Description: Facebook and Instagram owner reportedly dismisses about 24 workers for abusing $25 meal credit system
jayantbhawal··on Watch YouTube videos on the album artwork of Windows music control bar
Cool! I mean, I don't think I'll ever use it, but it's pretty cool nonetheless! :)
jayantbhawal··on Casio made a furry robot designed to cuddle and calm you down
First they leaked your data, now they trying to calm you down. It's almooost like a toxic relationship.
jayantbhawal··on Casio confirms customer data stolen in a ransomware attack
BRB. Gonna be a hermit at this point.
jayantbhawal··on DOJ indicates it's considering Google breakup following monopoly ruling
Whoa. How did you find those? HN doesn't appear to have something related to search as such.
jayantbhawal··on New study reveals positive mood changes during video game play
I mean... feels pretty obvious from my own experience.
jayantbhawal··on Hugging Face and Dora Metrics: Fast Code, Slow Response
I'll have what he's having
jayantbhawal··on Bootstrap: Strong Merge and Cycle Times, but First Response Time Needs a Revamp
Totally fair. Speed is just one piece—it's key to balance it with quality and stability. Faster cycles are great, but only if they don’t compromise long-term project health.
jayantbhawal··on What's New in React 19
I'm looking forward to not needing to use useMemo/useCallback anymore!
jayantbhawal··on OpenStreetMap's DevOps Efficiency: A Data-Driven Dora Metrics Analysis
I get where you're coming from, and can see a lot of people seeing it that way.

But to me, metrics like 'PR to merge time' help highlight bottlenecks, even in open source. It’s not just about churn, it’s about ensuring contributions are flowing smoothly. Quality matters, but so does making sure contributions don’t stall.

jayantbhawal··on OpenStreetMap's DevOps Efficiency: A Data-Driven Dora Metrics Analysis
We track PR merges as potential deployments to measure flow and efficiency, even if not every merge triggers an immediate deploy. It’s more about tracking how fast the code moves through the pipeline.
jayantbhawal··on OpenStreetMap's DevOps Efficiency: A Data-Driven Dora Metrics Analysis
Good point, but I’d say lead time still matters. Even in open source, slow responses can kill motivation. Quick feedback keeps contributors engaged and makes the project feel more active.
jayantbhawal··on WonderWorld: Interactive 3D Scene Generation from a Single Image
This is AMAZING!

I hope this is released for public use at some point. I'd love to run it through some of my older photos to see what it does with them.

jayantbhawal··on The Lego Great Ball Contraption
I feel poor looking at this.
jayantbhawal··on Yyyyyyy.info
Did I catch a virus?
jayantbhawal··on Not mixing list of todos with strategy
Analysis paralysis is so real and frustrating with the leadership. The shame is the intellectualisation of that crap and inactivity.

As a builder, I’d love to sip my coffee and build impactful stuff.

jayantbhawal··on Middleware: OSS Engineering Analytics Platform
Oh yeah that was the first thing that came to my mind
jayantbhawal··on Middleware: OSS Engineering Analytics Platform
This is pretty neat! I'm glad there's another open source option for trying out DORA four keys.
jayantbhawal··on Show HN: A Spotify-like yearly recap for devs using GitHub contributions
Hey pacifika, This includes data from your private repos to show a more complete picture for those that may have a lot of closed source contribs.

I totally get your hesitation to try it out, hence the link to the repo. You'd notice that your token isn't actually stored/sent to any database, or other internal system. It's kept as an HTTP-only secure cookie, encrypted using an RSA key-pair, on your browser only.

Happy to hear more feedback, or receive any contributions to support an public-only version of this.

jayantbhawal··on Show HN: A Spotify-like yearly recap for devs using GitHub contributions
Hey all! I'm one of the makers of Unwrapped, really appreciate the support so far, and of course, any feedback or direct contributions would be super appreciated. In terms of code, or design!

Try it out here: https://unwrapped.dev

jayantbhawal··on Programming Challenge: Build your own Redis
Was one of the first folks to try this thing out. Found this to be a solid way to learn some Redis internals. 10/10
