jayant123··on Heavy social media use associated with lower mental health in adolescents
Here's an excerpt from the article -

Heavy social media use was linked to negative wellbeing and self-esteem, regardless of a young person's mental state, with more girls experiencing feelings of depression and hopelessness.

“Those who feel worse may turn to social media for solace or community,” Dr Amy Orben, research fellow at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, said of the research.

“It’s not a vacuum, it works both ways."

Contrast that with the title of this post, which tries to establish a clear causal link from social media use to poor mental health.

jayant123··on Caliper: Hire the Best in Artificial Intelligence
As someone who's had a lot of trouble finding data science jobs/internships, I think a product like this would help a lot! However, I don't know the challenges of getting companies/hiring managers on such a platform would be, and I suspect that might be your main difficulty.
jayant123··on How to Do Real Time Object Detection on Drones
Awesome, was looking for something like this. Will definitely try it out. What rate (fps) were you able to process the stream at?
jayant123··on Ask HN: What are some hacks of real founders who did things that don't scale?
Coincidentally, I just saw this Reddit post yesterday - https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/9uxeq3/factorio_a... - "Factorio as an exam for computer engineers recruitment in Japan. If you play the game well, you can get a job!"
jayant123··on Technical Interview Performance by Editor, OS, and Language
Also, my guess is that the success rate for interviews would be fairly low, making any comparison of the success rates for different languages/editors even more statistically shaky. They should definitely publish the total sample size and success percentage for these results to be meaningful.

Example: Say they hired 5 out of a 100 applicants who used Python, and 2 out of 20 applicants who used Ruby. That's a 5% success rate vs a 10% success rate, a 100% increase. I'd hardly call that a significant result though.

Disclaimer: I'm no statistician either

jayant123··on Show HN: Natural Language to SQL interface to embed in your app
Are natural language interfaces for databases commonly used in the industry? Sorry if that sounds hostile, I'm simply curious about the state of a field which doesn't seem very prevalent outside of academia.
