jatinshah··on Reading SEC filings using LLMs
If this product is not meant for finance professionals then who is the target customer?

Retrieving numbers via ChatGPT and then feeding it into Excel via APIs seems like a very odd thing to do. Especially when most of these numbers are already available on Yahoo finance for individual investors and CapitalIQ for professionals.

jatinshah··on Reading SEC filings using LLMs
The main use case highlighted here seems to be retrieving quantitative data from financial reports and then doing sophisticated analysis (trendlines, forecasting etc) using ChatGPT (basically what’s currently done in Excel).

I doubt any finance professional would want to move from Excel to ChatGPT for these use cases.

A secondary issue is that numbers in financial reports need to be standardized before they can be used for analysis - say comparing ROE of a stock with industry average. That’s not possible with numbers from raw reports.

jatinshah··on Paul Graham is an investor in the company trying to kill Twitter
Twitter influencers/thought leaders are the users that Substack would want to acquire and build their product around them.
jatinshah··on Why do so few people major in computer science? (2017)
It's more to do with existentialist crisis of computer science education, not status or pay for computer science grads.

Computing has become a part of every major industry and computer science by itself is closer to applied math and such fields, valuable but by itself not very useful.

Most professionals in most industries need to know quite a bit of computing skills to be effective.

jatinshah··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
zk-S[NT]ARKs and related zero knowledge tech along with scalability improvements to Ethereum is poised to revolutionize financial tech. It will take decades to play out much like consumer PC and internet and we are still in very early stages.

But when it really picks up the impact will be as big as when Dutch invented modern finance in early 1600s.

jatinshah··on New York Times phasing out all 3rd-party advertising data
It’s a great decision and glad they did it.

But subscription revenue is now a much bigger part of NYT’s overall revenue and ad tech CPMs are declining year over year. So it’s not a hard decision anymore.

jatinshah··on It’s Time to Build
Great article and passionate tone!

But why doesn’t it also say that $X billion of a16z money will he allocated for such investments in the next 3 years?

jatinshah··on SpiderKeeper: Admin UI for scrapy/open source scrapinghub
All such admin tools use scrapyd which is not maintained and not good enough to be used in production.
jatinshah··on Radicle: A decentralized alternative to GitHub built on IPFS
Just a noob question here. IPFS doesn't guarantee that any data stored in it will be available for retrieval in future (unless lots of nodes want to cache it).

Why will anyone want to use IPFS for data storage without an availability and latency guarantee?

jatinshah··on My professional opinion as a blockchain researcher: I don’t see the point (yet)
Is this personal really a blockchain professional.

That is, does the person get paid by someone to be a blockchain researcher? I am curious who that someone might be.
