jatins··on On AI regulation and messaging
> Building the software post-launch of the integration would have easily taken 2.5 years at minimum.

What you have said is correct, it lets you build software much faster. The question however is: is that software making money for the company? (Not talking about what you built but in general)

I think, with AI, companies are saying yes to a lot of things they would have said No to ik say 2020. And as a result realizing “just building it” is not the answer.

Previously your GTM team or Product team would say “If we ship some big project X, we unlock $Y in revenue” but now people are realizing that those projections were really more of a hope. So companies are spending so much more tokens and shipping so many more PRs based on hope but a lot of it just doesn’t turn into meaningful revenue, especially not in short term

jatins··on Ask HN: Do you know of any company that went back to hand-written code?
> I would work in company which respects more code/infra quality than coding speed

Same. But that doesn’t have to be in contrast to using AI tools. There’s a lot of grunt in day to day coding as well.

The problem is not the tools

jatins··on Stripe 2.9% vs. Adyen 0.6% vs. Braintree 2.59%: 2026 Fees
Are restaurants directly using Adyen? I assume it’s some point of sale system like Toast or Square that’s using Adyen and all of them are using that POS system
jatins··on Ask HN: Do you know of any company that went back to hand-written code?
I think devs themselves won't want to work for a company that doesn't let you use Codex et al.

jatins··on Show HN: Graft – Claude Code hooks that cut grep tokens by 42%
As I said: If you couldn't be bothered to write it, don't expect people to read it. I find it disrespectful to your audience

That said my own views on what is/isnt slop is evolving i understand your pov

jatins··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
it’s probably just some informal Slack messages between colleagues that is being described as “reports from users”. There is no Report here
jatins··on Manus will return to operating as an independent company
I found there Deep Research quite good in terms of browsing the web, better than Gemini's. Though it blew through ~40$ in one task so it was very expensive, probably running at insane margins.
jatins··on 70% of AI revenue comes from OpenAI and Anthropic [video]
Core of my comment is 1/ being wrong on timing is being wrong 2/ There is no clear definition of bubble burst. Public markets were down 10% in July and many stocks like SNDK fell 50% -- is this a bubble burst?
jatins··on 70% of AI revenue comes from OpenAI and Anthropic [video]
Ed wrote a post back in 2024 where he claimed OpenAI would fail in 2 years if they didn’t do the, seemingly impossible at that time, things like raising more money than any company before etc.

And OpenAI did all of that and is still alive today. Would be good to know this context because if you are out there boldly making doomer predictions month after month then you should also rate your previous ones.

Because one day Ed will be right and he’ll go around and take a victory lap while ignoring he has basically not been right before.

jatins··on I'll be stepping back from leading product for X
Is there anyone at X (including xai cofounders) who has been there more than 2 years?
jatins··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
> If anthropic wins, Google copies their approach, buys anthropic for cheap or both

Google buys Anthropic for cheap? How?

jatins··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
I don’t think so. If Kimi and Deepseek can launch models better than Gemini with much much lesser resources then it is increasingly looking like an organization issue at Google
jatins··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
I don’t disagree with this if you code for a hobby.

Buy if you code for a job, good luck justifying this to management. “Yeah Claude already gave me the solution, I’ll take the rest of the week to type it out”

jatins··on Karpathy’s Pelican
> Last thought is that the domain of worlds/games exposes a weakness in LLMs: they can't easily audit their work because they aren't able to efficiently and natively perceive videos or play games within them.

Again comes back to the point of verifiable rewards. The moment you take it away from LLMs they just stop being as good

jatins··on LearnVector – Andrew Ng's AI company building one‑to‑one learning experiences
It is. I just wish people would throw a plain text page with a paragraph instead of this because you bet I am just scrolling through it without reading as soon as Claudism appears

What is the other hand here? They could do slow/costly illegal think #1 instead of the fast/cheaper illegal thing #2 that they currently do?

jatins··on Claude Opus 5
> they've just been able to use the synthetic data off of them to get the leap in quality from Opus.

> not a distilled version of Mythos or Fable

isnt distilled == trained on synthetic data and reasoning traces?

jatins··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
> Honestly no idea what I’d do if I were in government.

It's not ordinary citizens' job to figure out solutions to these problems. Government has teams of intelligence agencies to answer these questions. Encrypted chat is fundamental infra that shouldn't be blocked.

jatins··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
Indian government also blocked Telegram a while back to prevent exam leaks and stopped Whatsapp's rollout of usernames (which has some legitimate concerns) but more or less it wants complete China-like control of it's citizens' communications. Except no one uses any homegrown chat app (for good reasons)
jatins··on Claude Opus 5
Better than Fable 5 on all but 3 evals.

Has Anthropic ever mentioned how do Opus and Fable differ? It used to be Haiku < Sonnet < Opus in terms of params. Where does Fable fit in this?

jatins··on Ente – Opening Our Books

jatins··on Grok Build is open source

Yeah, no one is doubting it. People are just asking to not be lied to about how much progress has been made

jatins··on Building a real-time AI tutor for 5-year-olds
Why are you telling it that? No one is arguing LLMs are perfect but at this point dismissing them as stochastic parrots seems a bit silly

It won IMO, solved Erdos problems. At what point will you stop saying that?
