You're confusing Typing, Motherfucker with Programming, Motherfucker! It's ok. My project managers have made the same mistake.

Cuz we XPers are too busy Programming, Motherfucker!
jasonwocky··on This is why I sell beer.
So what are those traits? After all, I'd hate to offend you the next time I visit Austin.

Outright rejecting ideas because they're not part of your core competency is a growth-limiting position to take. Core competencies can get commoditized over time. If you don't skate to the next thing, you wither and die.
jasonwocky··on Steve Jobs' reality distortion takes its toll on truth
Does it matter? Are you disputing the claim? Do you think that people care more about the ability to bounce their laptop off of concrete than aesthetics?
jasonwocky··on Money Won’t Buy You Health Insurance
Basically everyone has to maintain a fund...

And with that, you're no longer in a free market.

jasonwocky··on The best Web Framework - what makes Lift different
>And Rake plugins (pieces of middleware, done in a standard/reusable way, contrary to Django's middleware) are just awesome.

I think you mean Rack plugins (noted b/c Rake is something entirely different in Ruby parlance).

jasonwocky··on Goldman to Offer Facebook Shares Only to Non-U.S. Clients
> It's not clear to me why regulators want to prevent mutually agreeable transactions from taking place.

In general, because the regulatory functions are aware of information asymmetries that could lead to large numbers of people transferring a significant amount of wealth to smaller number of other people.

Wealth concentration is expensive for society, because those who lose out do NOT give up their right to vote replacement money into their pockets. The more of them there are, the more likely they are to get society to cover some of their losses.

jasonwocky··on Build apps not businesses.
It's fast It's fun It's the ultimate resume

Sure, if you're trying to land a job, the build apps not businesses approach can work (and is possibly better than the opposite approach, cost/benefit-wise). If you're trying to become your own boss, you need to consider the alternative.

jasonwocky··on Hot Startups Lack Female Employees (even as applicants)
I think the point of the these articles is to point out a smell. An indication that maybe we aren't putting the best people in the best positions.

Maybe we're doing so after all, but it's worth asking the questions. And it's worth asking them again and and again and again.

jasonwocky··on Woman With No Fear Intrigues Scientists
I disagree with your "less common in the western world" assertion. There are still plenty of fast moving things that you might suddenly find it useful to be afraid of, from poisonous spiders to runaway vehicles.

But aside from all that, fear reactions also serve as an early-warning system to other people in your proximity who have not yet detected impending danger. Given that people physically close to you are the most likely ones to help you in a catastrophe, there are evolutionary advantages to keeping them in the loop ;)

jasonwocky··on Startup Lessons I Learned the Hard Way
"Believe me failing sucks really bad but there are no repeatable patterns that lead to startup success."

Maybe not, but there are definitely repeatable patterns that lead to startup failure. Time familiarizing yourself with them can be time well-spent.

jasonwocky··on Sculley: Apple’s Big Mistake Was Hiring Me As CEO
I don't believe the distinction is necessarily along the lines of software / hardware. It's more likely along the lines of "founding and running a new, small company" vs. "operating and growing a large, profitable company."
jasonwocky··on Fake Steve Jobs: Why I'm Switching to Android
"Can't believe that lack of choice can ever be a good thing."

jasonwocky··on Android-based Smartphones Outpaced Apple's iPhone in Q1 2010
I don't see a distinction between "bigger market" and "how many users actually buy digital content". I think these are the same thing.
