jasonlfunk··on Hacking the Job Hunt: How I landed 15 interviews in 30 minutes
The title is slightly misleading. It should read "How I landed 15 interviews in 30 minutes of work". She says that the actual process of being offered interviews took a few days.

I don't think this is a bad strategy. The problem, like others pointed out, is the spammy nature of it. If she directed the e-mails to the "send your resume here" addresses - I think it's spot on.

jasonlfunk··on Stripe: Open Source Retreat Grantees
I'm really impressed by Velocity.js. I'm glad that Julian Shapiro is one of the winners.
jasonlfunk··on Important Notice to Our Users
I think the joke was because only one user's data was apparently accessed.
jasonlfunk··on Important Notice to Our Users
That seems like an unreasonable standard. If you take things seriously - you can't SAY that you do otherwise people will think that you don't.
jasonlfunk··on Identify mystery text, win $1000
They are doodles from Homer's 5yr old daughter. Where do I send my address to get the check? :)
jasonlfunk··on How to Make Money from Spotify by Streaming Silence
I'm sure this is against Spotify's TOS in some way.
jasonlfunk··on Airpnp: Like Airbnb, but for toilets
Why? It's a great solution to a very common problem.
jasonlfunk··on 3D GIFs Created with a Simple Visual Effect
Thanks for asking first, we'll get back to you.
jasonlfunk··on Has Django become a pay-for-features framework?
pip install django-extensions

./manage.py runserver_plus 8080

Just saved your $30,000 ;)

jasonlfunk··on Get Facebook WiFi for your business
Why is this "absolutely disgusting"? It's good for Facebook, it's good for local businesses, and it completely optional for consumers. I don't see any problem here.
jasonlfunk··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
What would it even mean that the universe is a hologram? Wouldn't it imply some sort of holographic projector?
jasonlfunk··on Scrap the Welfare State and Give People Free Money
Being lazy isn't the only reason someone would quit working at Walmart. It might just suck to flip burgers for 8 hours a day. Needing to eat is a very good incentive to do things that you wouldn't normally do.
jasonlfunk··on Scrap the Welfare State and Give People Free Money
> Because, unlike current poverty support programs, where the having a benefit program that gives you $X and a job that gives you $X the most you can get is $X, with basic income, you can have the basic income of $X and the job of $X and have $2X.

This is the point that I didn't understand.

jasonlfunk··on Scrap the Welfare State and Give People Free Money
From the pessimistic point of view, why would anyone choose to work a crappy job at Walmart or McDonalds when the government would give them the same money without having to do anything.

Walmart and McDonalds (and everyone else) would therefore either go out of business or raise their wages. Raising their wages would increase the price of their goods. Increasing prices of goods would increase the cost of living which would increase the poverty level which would increase the minimum guaranteed income.

It's an inflationary cycle that would be very hard to avoid.

jasonlfunk··on Today’s Google Doodle is a fun game in honor of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary
Today is also the 50th anniversary of the assignation of JFK. There probably would have been backlash to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr Who instead, so they decided to just do nothing.
jasonlfunk··on Why the last 20% of work takes the same amount of time as the first 80%
That's the most annoying comma I've seen in a while. :) Great article though.
jasonlfunk··on You’re infected—if you want to see your data again, pay us $300 in Bitcoins
"you need to pay 300 USD / 300 EUR / similar amount in another currency"

How about 300 VND? Seems similar to me. :)

jasonlfunk··on Manager.io – Free accounting software for small businesses
I've written what you are talking about for my own personal budgeting (http://www.allocateapp.com). I've never taken it into full production for the same reasons that you are mentioning. It currently supports my banks and anything OFX and works great. But something like Yodlee is what is missing to make it production worthy. It is too expensive for what I want to charge. I'd like to talk to you more. Send me an email - jason@jasonfunk.net
jasonlfunk··on Ask HN: Does anyone know the stylate.com folks?
Thanks for the information. William's email address is the one that shows up if I try to cancel the payment in Google Checkout. I've sent an email to that address and haven't heard back.
jasonlfunk··on Constitutional Amendment Petition - Corporations are not people.
Which rights exactly are you wanting to take away from corporations?

The provision of making corporations people gives them the rights to not be subjected to searches without warrants, to not be spied on by the NSA, to not be punished for speech, to own private land. Are you really in favor of taking these away?

By the way, this would not only effect the big evil corporations that you despise but the mom-and-pop shops that you love and all non-profit organizations, PACs, charities, churches, etc.

Is their corruption in corporations? Yes. Does that mean we should take away their rights? No. Just as lots of people say really dumb things that we don't like, we don't take away everyone's freedom of speech.

This would have much bigger consequences than most people realize.

jasonlfunk··on Ask HN: Freelancers, what health insurance do you use?
Mine is pretty similar. I have a high deductible ($2500) plan Wellmark (BCBS) and it's around $70/mon. I'm pretty sure I've read that it will be illegal in in 2014 because my deductible is too high.
jasonlfunk··on Show HN: Wordpress Multivariate Testing with bayesian experimental design
I wanted to show HN about a new Wordpress plugin (my first software release) that I developed. It's an integrated multivariate testing system that is built directly into Wordpress (compare to Optimizely or Convert). It uses bayesian experiment design to maximize conversions during the experiments. I'd love any feedback.
