jankeymeulen··on SiFive Tapes Out First 5nm TSMC 32-bit RISC-V Chip with 7.2 Gbps HBM3
Thousands to tens of thousands per car? I think you're off by an order of magnitude.
jankeymeulen··on Iberian Citadel of Calafell, Iron Age Village
I've visited it and found it very worthwhile, but one needs to remember that at the same time they were building the pyramids in Egypt.
jankeymeulen··on Lou Ottens, inventor of cassette tape, has died
Nyquist and Shannon disagree with you.
jankeymeulen··on Google Stadia shuts down internal studios, changing business focus
Stadia needs low latency to a Google DC. There are plenty of such DCs in the US and Europe, but not in NZ.
jankeymeulen··on Godiva Chocolates to close all 128 North American stores due to Covid pandemic
Godiva hadn't been belgian for over a decade. For something I - as a belgian - would consider and is available worldwide, I'd go with Neuhaus.
jankeymeulen··on ECC matters
Or Swedish for that matter, as I believe Torvalds maternal language is Swedish
jankeymeulen··on I prepared for a decade to graduate in CS in three months
Congratulations for that!

However, you also paid of that $240k by earning at least $80k / year.

Europe? Imec was founded and is funded by the Flanders region of Belgium.

FreeNAS not so much, needs x86, this board is ARM...
jankeymeulen··on I lost €4k in a Facebook scam
What browser are you using that is displaying IDN unaltered?
jankeymeulen··on Monarch: Google’s Planet-Scale In-Memory Time Series Database [pdf]
I work at one such "medium sized" Google DCs. Supercomputers are typically much more interconnected, whilst we have a much more traditional topology.
jankeymeulen··on Next-Generation IBM POWER10 Processor
Because that's the way you grow them as a single crystal.
jankeymeulen··on More than 1/3 of all access to Google is now over IPv6
Typically "your OS" doesn't do NAT in IPv4, unless your using a NAT router as your end user device.

And surely you can do NAT with IPv6, Google for NAT66, but your average Linux box can do it. It's just almost never needed.

jankeymeulen··on Amazon investing $10B to compete against SpaceX in satellite broadband
Because they still need ground stations (and users!) in the US?
jankeymeulen··on I'm a Google SWE that's coached 50 through the FAANG interview process. AMA
So you've worked at Google for "only" 1y2m and already coached 50 people to work at a FAANG? Or you started this earlier?
jankeymeulen··on Bank of America's CEO says it's saved $2B per year by building its own cloud
I'd guess fibre channel, to connect the blade servers to storage, like a SAN.
jankeymeulen··on Baking a Better Loaf of Bread
Not sure why you can't feed 7 billion with decent bread, other countries (including mine, Belgium) seem to do fine with artisanal bread or - at worst - supermarket bread which is way way way better than the thing they eat in Brittain.
jankeymeulen··on China's slowdown deepens; industrial output growth falls to 17.5-year low
1 child policy. The population pyramid is inverted, so the average age is increasing.
jankeymeulen··on Espresso-hole – EspressoBin-based personal router with ad blocking
Depends, a typical use case of this device would be a router, or a firewall, so the point GP makes is very much valid.
jankeymeulen··on Google employees are listening to Google Home conversations

jankeymeulen··on Hewlett Packard Enterprise to Buy Supercomputer Maker Cray
HP, Compaq and EDS.
jankeymeulen··on Google Docs gets an API for task automation
True, but why? To gain some Internetpoints?
jankeymeulen··on Bye, Bye, Google
You'll still get the overlay but information from Gmail but aren't served ads anymore based on the contents. It changed somewhere in 2017 iirc.
jankeymeulen··on Google Demanded T-Mobile, Sprint Not Sell Google Fi Customers' Location Data
Given the majority of the voting rights is still with the founders, they may have a bit less shortsighted outlook.
jankeymeulen··on Huawei finds itself in the crosshairs of Western security agencies
Pick your poison. As Snowden revealed, Cisco was/is regularly backdoored by US intelligence as well.
jankeymeulen··on Great Wall Motor unveils $9k electric urban car with nearly 200-mile range
Cargo bike is most excellent for these kind of trips. I take my 0 and 2 year old in an Urban Arrow to school / daycare.
jankeymeulen··on IPv6 xmas display uses 75 Internet's worth of addresses
Not really, NAT will keep track of destination address as well so unless the network share outside the network is also the address of an adversary, the SMB port isn't open to the internet.
jankeymeulen··on SpaceX Launches 19th Rocket in a Year, a Company Record
People keep say astroid mining but I've yet to see a convincing business case...
jankeymeulen··on The Google Cemetery – A list of dead Google products and why they died
It's required for GDPR so will stay around for a while.

(That's my personal guess at least, not related to that team)

jankeymeulen··on Skara Brae – Discovery and Excavation of Orkney's finest Neolithic Settlement
Visited it a couple of years ago, really nice to see. Bit of a Flintstones feeling, with stone beds and cupboards.

I was impressed by it, but one should not forget that at the same time this was built the Great Pyramid was already 300 years old.
