janice1999··on Utah to let AI examine patients and prescribe medication without human oversight
It's the narrow end of the wedge.
janice1999··on Utah to let AI examine patients and prescribe medication without human oversight
Prescribing medication for acne, some of which can have serious side affects like depression, is general medicine.
janice1999··on EventMaxxer – Automatically apply to events to get you in the right room
I'm not sure whether the people developing these spam tools simply lack the imagination or empathy to see the world through the eyes of other people or can but don't care. Or maybe the "grindset" / "maxxing" mentality demands callousness by its very nature.
janice1999··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
... if you can afford the ever increasing cost of hardware, a rise directly caused by the same AI companies.
janice1999··on The Secret Life of Circuits
Just ordered. Love these kinds of books. Any others like this one people are aware of?
janice1999··on Student teacher arrested for private Snapchat message
Google automated that years ago: https://www.businessinsider.com/google-reported-dad-police-p...
janice1999··on Returning to Zig after losing trust in Rust's governance
An "open" healthy organisation does not stack the cards during major policy discussions by forbidding major arguments against the adoption of a position its backers clearly want. The author is right to call that out. It was an extremely disappointing move for Rust to make.

There is also Seraph (prevents common attacks, remote software etc) from the team behind the KitBoga scam-baiting streamer.

janice1999··on GLM 5.2 Is Out
Well, one did suddenly develop the need to tell users continuously about apparent white genocide in South Africa.
janice1999··on Brexit Ten Years On: The Economy
Many of the UK's post-Brexit trade deals have been the previous EU one with a slight tweak. Even the much touted US beef deal was built on an EU scheme and was rather minimal at that. It's not surprising then that the EU and UK are similar. The lack of UK growth over the EU is a big indictment of Brexit from an economic perspective.
janice1999··on Preparing for KDE Plasma's Last X11-Supported Release
A huge thank you to the KDE team. Plasma is good (finally) on Wayland for me (AMD graphics, single hi-dpi screen). I finally switched over from GNOME and I am happy with the experience.

janice1999··on AI will be used to estimate age of asylum seekers from next year
I'm sure the AI is not biased and has a diverse training data set accurately representing the war-torn and impoverished countries these asylum seekers are coming from.

janice1999··on The AI water issue is fake
Because water access is constrained geographically. You have to pipe it in if you use it all up. The US is seeing the worst spring drought on record: https://time.com/article/2026/05/10/drought-US-farmers-crops...
janice1999··on Mistral's CEO: Europe has 2 years to stop becoming America's AI 'vassal state'
Americans are just as regulated and with even more egregious regulatory capture (see the American broadband/mobile provider cartel). At least Europeans get a little consumer protection.
janice1999··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
It's going to work for the most part. Most people know that. It's a file by file, mostly function by function, conversion from one low level language to another with a very large test suite (with lots of Rust unsafe to work around differences). I've done that for C tools and it's fine, with some obscure edge cases here and there. The challenges are going to be making the new, very ugly, alien codebase idiomatic Rust in future and adding features or debugging the complex issues. I wish the developers luck. They're in for a slog.
janice1999··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
I'm curious how much this would cost a paying customer. Can you please give us an estimate?
janice1999··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
Has he estimated the token cost for this (if he had to pay that is)? I'm curious how much this would cost a paying customer.
janice1999··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
The benefit of using Rust is that you know exactly where the unsafe code is so you can handle it explicitly and deliberately to avoid issues by imposing carefully crafted constraints... oh.
janice1999··on Postmortem: TanStack NPM supply-chain compromise
How did you guys detect it? Do you use it internally or do you monitor popular packages?

janice1999··on Aids Creeps Back in Parts of Zambia, a Year After U.S. Cuts to HIV Assistance
The US had to leave the medicine rot in warehouses. The AI chatbot said it was DEI.
janice1999··on Utah senator smacks ABC reporters phone out of hand amid Data Center controversy
> ABC4’s crew was also issued a trespassing notice.

The class system in the US has never been more on display with the datacenter build outs. A senator who attacks a journalist gets them threatened by the police. Town halls to listen to local "concerns" are charades where they look for any excuse to arrest anyone who voices opposition [1].

janice1999··on AI slop is killing online communities
Wow, that's bad. Looks like the warnings about TPM and remote attestation being a backdoor to total digital lockdown from the Stallman contingent were right.
janice1999··on AI slop is killing online communities
I've never seen a CAPTCHA like that. What's it used for? Google Cloud services?
janice1999··on Nobody Reviews Compiler Output
Same goes for linker output, especially in embedded dev.
janice1999··on AI slop is killing online communities
Question for web devs - are captchas effective any more? If Reddit required a captcha on every comment, would it actually decrease bot comments?
janice1999··on Nobody Reviews Compiler Output
That's why you should just subscribe to multiple LLM vendors. One model to write specs, one to write code against the specs and another to validate the code. Problem solved. (I have heard this proposed at work.)
