janesvilleseo··on Wyze parody of Ring's Super Bowl ad
A short parody video released by Wyze in response to Ring’s Super Bowl commercial about using connected cameras to locate lost dogs (only lost dogs wink wink)
janesvilleseo··on ChargePoint data shows a new EV bottleneck forming
To your point I think they just might be. I just had one of these built in my city and a quick look makes it appear to be backed by the big automakers.

They also have NACS chargers too

janesvilleseo··on Total surface area required to fuel the world with solar (2009)
I’ll just leave this here for those who have some time to watch: https://youtu.be/KtQ9nt2ZeGM?si=MBVdiOpSdgmGaar5
janesvilleseo··on Deaths Linked to AI Chatbots
Is there a deaths related to social media, search engines, or newspapers wiki page?
janesvilleseo··on Google in 1999: Search engines escape the portal matrix
If you haven’t done a search in awhile on Bing it’s also very horrible. In many search’s there are only 1 or 2 organic results in the traditional sense.

Now on Google they are adding paid ads in the middle of the search results, not just the top or bottom.

The reason Google did well was the absence of ads. These LLMs like ChatGPT have now taken that experience that Google has lost.

janesvilleseo··on Tesla was hit by a wave of protests, sales are crashing, insiders are waking up
Interesting, this post was removed (shadow delisted). I don't see it on the in the first 3 pages anymore after it was at number 11 just a few minutes ago.
janesvilleseo··on Tesla was hit by a wave of protests, sales are crashing, insiders are waking up
Yeah, but that is where it starts. It’s like people who comment vs just reading/sharing the same opinion. Only a tiny fraction speak out. There are lots more who share the same opinion but just haven’t/don’t voice it.

Additionally there are those who attended the other rallies yesterday not at the dealerships but at other locations holding signs declaring their opinion towards Musk.

Hell, I just paid off my Tesla and I’m thinking of dumping it because I don’t want to be seen as someone who supports him.

The brand is 100% tarnished.

Only when sales/stock price take a long sustained hit will there be anything done.

They only care about their money.

janesvilleseo··on Ask HN: How to Resurrect a Site from Archive.org?
This something that used to be done quite a bit in the SEO world. Not sure if still holds and SEO value. Probably some, but maybe not the same level.

Anyways there are tools out there. I haven’t used them

But a tool like https://www6.waybackmachinedownloader.com/website-downloader...

Or

https://websitedownloader.com/

Should do the trick. Depending on the size of the site a small cost is involved.

They can even package them into unusable files.

janesvilleseo··on Forbes Marketplace: The Parasite SEO Company Trying to Devour Its Host
You don’t need an insider for you know where to just buy the link. They hang their shingle out on at least one link buying marketplace.
janesvilleseo··on HMD Barbie Phone
What I think is most interesting is that one feature that they call out is its “ a real phone without social media”.

Guess if they want to go after a different demo, they could make a GI Joe phone. The “action figure” phone.

janesvilleseo··on Discussing CNET’s content-pruning to improve SEO ranking
It helps them by generating a ton of links and mentions which Google still uses as a signal for authority. Getting high quality links from all sorts of places around the web is worth its weight in gold. So with these new links it will help to improve their rankings for a wide variety of keywords.
janesvilleseo··on Reddit Protests Escalate as Rebel Mods Are Kicked Out
What is the end game for Reddit here? Losing free and motivated workers and gutting their communities, is that something they feel will blow over and they will be able to replace with their own figureheads? I haven’t gone back and I was addicted to the site for over 15 years.
janesvilleseo··on Reddit makes it impossible to delete PII, refuses to do it itself violating GDPR [video]
I was a super long time lurker. Never made an account but was on there hours each day for the past +15 years.

I stopped going during the protest and haven’t gone back since. It was the straw for me.

I suspect I am not alone in this.

janesvilleseo··on [dead]
“Elon Musk emailed Twitter staff on Friday asking that any employees who write software code report to the 10th floor of Twitter's office in San Francisco at 2 p.m., according to an email reviewed by Reuters.

"There will be short, technical interviews that allow me to better understand the Twitter tech stack," Musk wrote in the memo.”

janesvilleseo··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
Not sure if troll or real but… “Twitter terminated my employment this afternoon. I was in charge of controlling Twitter office badge access.

Elon just phoned me to ask if I could return to assist them in regaining access to HQ after they disabled all badges and locked themselves out.”

janesvilleseo··on Is Google getting worse? Why critics say ads, spam sites are killing search
Legal content is highly monetized.

I have had trouble finding similar content. Often these are buried in PDF reports by state agencies. There are some federal resources out there depending on what you need. But those are often hard to navigate too.

For something like what you want you may have to compile the date separately to compare it.

But yes, attorney SEO is a huge business

janesvilleseo··on I stopped advertising and nothing happened
If this was part of a retargeting campaign it would probably be a good audience too.
janesvilleseo··on Employees are returning to the office to sit on zoom calls
There is no one size fits all. I’m a believer that office time should be optional. If I was an employer I want to get the most from my people. I want to empower them with the tools they need to get the best work done they can. If that is them working at home. Fine. If it’s having a dedicated space (office) that I pay for. Fine. They are adults and can figure out what works best for them. Why would I as an employer know how best all of my employees can work best.
janesvilleseo··on Ask HN: Is your company considering inflation in this year's comp review cycle?
Exceeded - 0.0%

Yep

I knew that going in. I helped to secure 10 million in business in 2021. They disbanded our team. To “grow” it. I applied for the “new” role.

They offered less and said it would include 2022 annual raise.

Told by my managers manager they would make me right at the end of 2022 through a bonus. Asked for it in writing, never heard back.

This decrease in total comp plus inflation has seen my real world earned drop by 20% for 2022.

janesvilleseo··on Lego has designed a set that can't be taken apart
Really? I’ve put a ton of sets together over about 30 years and I have never had a piece missing.

I’m constantly impressed that they just always all the pieces.

What I have found is that sometimes there is 1 piece stuck in the bag after I have dumped it out. So I keep the bags until I’m finished building the set.

janesvilleseo··on An Excel TikToker manifested her way to making six figures a day
The HN crowd not her target audience. We all have been in offices where people are not able to use what most of us would consider basic functions of Excel.

I know even in my group once I learned vloolup I was considered the excel wizard. What I knew was that I was far from an actual Wizard. There is so much more.

Either way there are millions of people that her courses are ideal for. Good for her.

janesvilleseo··on Google has a secret deal with FB called “Jedi Blue” that they knew was illegal
This explains my question. How much does Google pay for its own ads on its own platforms? No way to check. Easy to manipulate. But this is a whole lot worse.
janesvilleseo··on Working Multiple Jobs
It’s like you become a business with multiple clients (employers).
janesvilleseo··on Facebook shut down German research on Instagram algorithm
I don’t know if this is connected, but the company I work for we provide marketing services. One service we provide is marketing videos on Facebook on behalf of our clients. We would post the videos on their pages and promote them. We could then publicly see the amount of views they would get.

Well in the last month Facebook has changed how that works. We now have to add them to their ads manager and promote them through there and they will now not automatically get added to the clients page to be seen publicly.

That’s fine we can do that. The kicker here is that Facebook removed 2 years of videos from all of our clients. We have hundreds of clients and thousands of videos.

I wonder now if this is an attempt to stop people from researching this data since they have been removed.

I just have no other explanation for removing 2 years of videos. Note that these videos are not political in any way they are general 15-20 second animated ads. All unique and custom written a produced for each client.

janesvilleseo··on It's not SEO: something is fundamentally broken in Google Search
I just tested an few exact matches myself and it seems like its completely broken, see my comment above. I am just floored at how bad it is now. Something is truly broken here.
janesvilleseo··on It's not SEO: something is fundamentally broken in Google Search
Holy cow! Just to expand on my previous comment below, but a different use case. Exact search, you have to use quotes seems to be completely busted as well. The company I work for builds websites, we have thousands and we have a common phrase in the footer. I would use Google to help find example sites. Well, as of at least this morning, assuming this is as old as Google's July 1st update exact match no longer works.

I used to get 100's of great results. Now, I get less than 30 and over 70% are spam. You are correct that something is completely wrong. It is 100% broken in this case.

I just can not believe how horrible this is. Just to emphasis how bad it is, I even tried a combination of the phrase in the footer plus the name of the company. It would not return any results for that company/website. Just spam results.

What is going on here?

janesvilleseo··on It's not SEO: something is fundamentally broken in Google Search
That is a very interesting observation. I often travel back to those pages too as part of my job and now that you mention it, yes. That is exactly what I see too. It’s absolutely garbage. I will sometimes pull a SERP with 100 results looking to see if something is there. I will find garbage way before I find a result I think should be somewhere in that mix. Especially before SPAM related results.
janesvilleseo··on Amazon third-party sellers reportedly hound customers who leave bad reviews
Not surprised at all. My sister in law apparently has been getting free stuff/refunds for all sorts of stuff.

From what I have been told it’s a network of groups coordinating on FB. Seems quite sophisticated.

She has gotten 1000’s of dollar of items.

And yes they post items saying who is interested in this item or that and then people respond saying yes or no.

janesvilleseo··on Google commits to supporting Nest smart home devices for 5 years
Yep. Add this to the list of reasons why I am not getting one.
janesvilleseo··on You can now turn on Nvidia's excellent noise cancellation with any GeForce GPU
I use this https://krisp.ai/. There is a free tier, but it’s cheap at 60/year given that works pays for it. It’s been great.

It works on PC and Macs. You can filter out noise on your end or the others persons end. I highly recommend it.
