janc_··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
There are enough Israeli videos, texts, interviews & testimonies about IDF soldiers intentionally targetting children & bragging about it. No need to depend on Hamas communications.
janc_··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Hamas doesn't care much about civilians, nobody says otherwise. But that's no legitimation for also murdering civilians.
janc_··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Part of Hamas' militias fought alongside the Egyptian army against IS & AQ in Egypt, so that's not entirely true.

What is true is that Egypt doesn't want to take in 2 million poor, underfed, sick, homeless Gazans & have to care for them.

janc_··on The systems that no one will test
In the UK, do you sell the license plate along with the car or something?
janc_··on MS Paint and Photos inivisibly watermark even locally generated output with GUID
In the rest of the world CC processing uses a PIN code + online revocation check (when the card is present) or a redirect through your bank (which hopefully uses some type of 2FA). Works a lot better & safer, and you should wonder why they pretend to need to violate your privacy in the USA…

Collision only detectable when you have both messages. Detecting a forgery seems more likely.
janc_··on Blender 5.2 LTS
The Oscar-winning animated feature movie “Flow” was made with Blender.
janc_··on Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless
Why would anyone entrust money to a company like eBay if they are this incompetent at something as simple as e-mail?
janc_··on Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless
Should have registered as rei-are-incompetent-idiots@ instead…
janc_··on Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless
Most RBLs are scams. No competent mail admin uses them to block mail ever.
janc_··on Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless
Oh yes, so many websites are incompetent like that.

And of course after registering with foo+bar@example.com they will happily send invoices to bar@example.com

janc_··on Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless
The + has no special meaning in the standards, and thus removing it will just result in invalid addresses in many cases…
janc_··on GPT‑NL: a sovereign language model for the Netherlands
It's well-known that all commercial models are based on stolen content. That doesn't mean there is no filtering/censoring, just that the censoring likely depends on where it's happening…
janc_··on Mythos Finds a Curl Vulnerability
In many countries it is mandatory to mark any form of compensated advertising as such. If your claim is true they might be breaking some laws here & there…
janc_··on Microsoft terminated the account VeraCrypt used to sign Windows drivers
Using OCR you could reduce that to seconds.
janc_··on Microsoft terminated the account VeraCrypt used to sign Windows drivers
While I do get a lot of mail, including a lot of spam, it’s not that bad.

And the real problem is that most commercial companies make their legitimate administrative/legal mails look more & more like spam or phishing mails, not the other way around.

janc_··on Microsoft terminated the account VeraCrypt used to sign Windows drivers
I get those too, and I don’t even have any Microsoft accounts. So I assume at least some of them are not real. ;)
janc_··on Microsoft terminated the account VeraCrypt used to sign Windows drivers
And for a company, not having to train people on all new applications at once might be what makes it _practically_ possible at all.
janc_··on Microsoft terminated the account VeraCrypt used to sign Windows drivers
How can you _prove_ (“demonstrate”) that your software doesn’t contain malware or any vulnerabilities?

They can’t do that for any of their own software for sure…

janc_··on LittleSnitch for Linux
Not all "hostname lookups" by applications happen over DNS (or the DNS is done by something like systemd-resolved, which is often using encrypted lookups), so in many cases, depending on NSS configuration (e.g. 'file', 'resolve', 'db', 'nis', 'mymachines', 'libvirt', 'winbind', ...) this would never work?
janc_··on LittleSnitch for Linux
WiFi works fine if there are drivers for whatever WiFi chip you have.

Unfortunately there are no standards for OS to talk to WiFi devices like exist for many other types of hardware, so it’s not possible to make generic drivers.

janc_··on Copilot edited an ad into my PR
It seems like this was implemented as a way to insert tips, and then abused to insert ads, so the developers involved might not have been aware of that part until later?
janc_··on Tesla’s autonomous vehicles are crashing at a rate much higher tha human drivers
They reduce accidents in general, but bring us some “entertaining” new ones where a (usually) drunk driver crashes into the statue/fountain/whatever in the middle or uses the little “hill” in the middle as a jump ramp…
janc_··on Tesla’s autonomous vehicles are crashing at a rate much higher tha human drivers
Before people believe the Tesla robot hype they should probably consider that Toyota has been making cars AND robots for longer than Tesla exists.
janc_··on Tesla’s autonomous vehicles are crashing at a rate much higher tha human drivers
More importantly: it seems like Austin is mostly a typical US city grid of wide streets. Nothing comparable with an average old inner city, or narrow countryside roads with a ditch or cliff or quay on one or both sides. Probably not many pedestrians & cyclists roaming the streets either?
janc_··on Software Pump and Dump
“Pump & Dump” has a very specific meaning here, something that is essentially a scam to cheat people out of their money, and not an actual honest attempt to create something new…
janc_··on We can't have nice things because of AI scrapers
These AI crawlers already steal residential user connections to do their scraping. They'll happily steal your trust tokens too…
janc_··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
I know where the nuclear waste is stored here. Its storage is funded by the government for now (not included in electricity prices) and nobody can actually prove it will be safe for the centuries it will be dangerous.
janc_··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
There is a Belgian company that can use temperarure & other fluctuations in underseas power & cimmunication cables to detect nearby objects etc. I'm sure they are willing to help the US navy if they can convince them the US is a solid NATO partner… ( oh, wait, that might have become difficult…)
janc_··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
They are not (necessarily) invisible, that depends on size & many other variables.

Also, hypersonic missiles are perfectly vusible on radar.
