jamwil··on StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta
This drove me crazy and I was about to uninstall it before I came across this comment.
jamwil··on Alberta's image as world's only rat-free region shattered by discovery of rat
Also Albertan. Had never seen a rat until I moved to Vancouver at the age of 34.
jamwil··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Your employer has fundamentally undermined the stable functioning of society by systematically provoking outrage, division and hate. You have contributed to a world where we can’t even agree if measles is bad.
jamwil··on The GitHub wiki is an anti-pattern (2022)
Use CODEOWNERS files to route docs/ reviews differently.
jamwil··on Mexican student creates an acoustic fire extinguisher to put out fire in seconds
Found the Argentinian.
jamwil··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
I am not sure what streaming service you are using but it sounds awful. I have not encountered anything like what you describe on Apple Music.
jamwil··on The Tariff Cost: analysis of the costs to Americans from new tariffs on Canada
I am not sure if this factors into it but an interesting difference between dairy and eggs and most other types of farms is that those are highly perishable. Grain can be stored and released gradually to even out market gyrations but dairy is just lost if they don’t match supply closely with demand in real time.
jamwil··on Trade (and Tariffs)
It’s not logical. He is a malignant narcissist and a sociopath. A very sick man.
jamwil··on Anthropic tells staff to work from home due to possible security team strike
Health insurance in America is—quite uniquely—the deep end of the pool in the whole capitalism v humanity conundrum. I think a lot of Americans feel that viscerally and the widespread support for Luigi was symbolic of how truly fucked up that country is in general.
jamwil··on Donkey.bas is 45 Years Old – 131 line of Glory
¡Viva Donkey!
jamwil··on OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future
It’s a function of relative scale. If you’re a Fortune 100 CEO there is still a point where you would quarterback a sale, but that would be like… a $10 billion+ contract with the federal government.
jamwil··on Completing a computer science degree on Coursera
The point of group projects is not to make the best project, it’s to learn to navigate working with other people and all the messiness that entails. Soft skill development and the slackers are a feature not a bug. Doing group projects solo completely defeats the point of the exercise—I’m surprised you got approval from any profs for that.
jamwil··on Wordgard: In-browser rich-text editor from the creator of ProseMirror
Because Meta is a harmful company, for one.
jamwil··on Internal Combustion Engine (2021)
I just read this fact in Hail Mary, but it doesn’t fully add up to me. If you fall flat on your back and wind yourself (phrenospasm) that triggers an immediate suffocation response which has nothing to do with CO2 and seemingly everything to do with a lack of oxygen.
jamwil··on World Cup fans frustrated by 'confusing and expensive' tipping culture in US
Canada is not a third world hell hole, but our tipping culture is just as bad as the US. Perhaps even worse.
jamwil··on CBC will no longer air NHL games in 'end of an era' as broadcast deal expires
The great capitalist rug pull continues.
jamwil··on DeepSeek Introduces Vision
What did you do prior to 2023?
jamwil··on Facebook is paying people overseas promoting Alberta separatism
I doubt it’s an effective channel for promoting liberalism (or even rationality). In North America at least the folks most engaged on Facebook tend to be media illiterate and reactionary leaning. The smart people left long ago.
jamwil··on Google to pay SpaceX $920M a month for compute capacity at xAI data centers
They were just being jocular.
jamwil··on United Airlines 767 returns to Newark after Bluetooth name sparks alert
I was talking about this with someone the other day… How many real terrorism threats have been preceded by the terrorist telegraphing their intentions with a phone call beforehand? My prior is that this number is essentially 0 and we should ignore bomb threats as a society.
jamwil··on Cars collect a startling amount of data about you
Actually no I can’t recall the last time I tried to ride a bike in the snow. But I know inherently that snow itself would be alright, but snow is almost always accompanied by a layer of ice below, which simply can’t be fine. This is the case in Canada at least.
jamwil··on Please Use AI
The author’s point was more nuanced than ‘tool bad’.
jamwil··on Cars collect a startling amount of data about you
Without studded tires it’s very difficult to ride a bike on snow or ice.
jamwil··on Cars collect a startling amount of data about you
What does it mean to be ‘in intelligence’ in this context?
jamwil··on Show HN: A deep dive into Kubernetes internals
This is a bucket of slop.
jamwil··on The map that keeps Burning Man honest
What is wrong with you. This isn’t a customer/employee thing at all. That’s, like, the entire point of Burning Man.
jamwil··on The map that keeps Burning Man honest
“Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.” —Jobs
jamwil··on Claude Code refuses requests or charges extra if your commits mention "OpenClaw"
Of course. My point is that your profit still decreases as you approach max usage, ceteris parabis. It may be acceptable but it is less. Your costs are variable and your revenue is fixed (at least on a unit basis).
jamwil··on Claude Code refuses requests or charges extra if your commits mention "OpenClaw"
Within each tier, each marginal token is an expense with no marginal revenue to offset. So yes. The platonic ideal for any subscription business model is zero usage.
jamwil··on Claude Code refuses requests or charges extra if your commits mention "OpenClaw"
Not when their customers are paying a flat rate subscription.
