Doesnt catch me off guard, europeans love modern, they love high tech, they love american brands as status symbols and they are very, very environmentally aware. Even if the Tesla isnt all that better than the really small engine's already in most cars here, it is perceived as a social statement and lifestyle. Not to mention it is unique compared to all the AUDI/VW/BMW's on the road here.
I can see someone like Servicenow or Splunk wanting to acquire this. Decent idea for organizations that dont have existing frameworks around these types of things. Where I see it not working would be in places where the use of 3rd party apps are prevalent. We have many of these at my place of work (Finance, 70k employees), one of the top apps used by the business to make money is a total black box, when something goes wrong with it there isnt much we can do besides send off the core dumps to the vendor and wait for analysis, with no 2 scenarios ever being the same root cause.
One's career isnt always the sole reason for burnout, many times one's workload is totally fine, but combined with their work commute, family and other outside influences, they become burned out. We need to take a holistic look at burnout and not just attribute it to career.
Ok? If it wasnt for AMZN do you think popsockets would have scaled that quick? No. Would this CEO have even 1/4 his net worth? Not likely. Seriously if AMZN is such a pain in his side why doesnt he just drop them? Thats right, because THEY are the retailer, not him.
Californians arent all moving just due to housing costs, overall cost of living there is pretty nuts and unless you work in big tech, your salary is not that great. State plus federal income tax alone was a deal breaker for me when I was there.
These "gig" and "service" companies are simply re-defining minimum wage and taking advantage of a segment of the populace that cant get minimum wage jobs for one reason or another. But yea, dont want 1.45 an hour then find another job. Dont want to be broke AF then dont have 3 kids. How can anyone take the examples in this article even remotely serious.
It is but we are still in infant stages in automation as it pertains to electronic trading. Its a bit of an arms race, I anticipate it is going full circle in that after the point where we have more technologists than traders hits, we will realize all our tech is as strong as the next guys and will need to re-enlist more traders to help with new strategy to differentiate said algo's from the competitions.
Kind of interested in knowing if this was his first job, as there were many, many mistakes made here. This is simply a case of him not understanding his role. Went over bosses head without knowing anything about the relationship between said boss and upper management. Didnt inquire as to why a boss who "burned a team to the ground" in previous position was promoted to his team to begin with. Kept trying to come back to the company for social gatherings even after leaving. Am not sure what the story is here, but I hope he learned some lessons, plural.
"Assume that I have 2–3 cocktails every other day"
Ehhh what, sorry but my friends that have 2-3 every other day I would tell them they have a problem. Is it some shock to the author that this is unhealthy and expensive?
Security companies exist simply to mark a check box on most industry's "Cover my ass" list. If you are pissed off maybe move out of this and into a sector that actually cares about security.
Most people with this complaint have never worked in finance or big banks. Seriously, working in tech for a tech company is a techies dream, dont squander it. It sounds to me like you are too dependent on your job for the happiness in your life.
You can always tell, its pretty easy to just click the users profile and see that they have reviewed seemingly unrelated products ad-nauseum and the frequency of purchases being through the roof, with most of them being 5 star reviews. Not to mention, what do you do with all that crap?! She isnt being paid, just reimbursed which means not only does she need time to do the review but time to sell all this junk. Terrible side hustle if you ask me.
I work in similar capacity, I have seen similar time and time again. So called "Devs" and "SME's", that basically know absolutely nothing and need to be trained.
