I imagine it comes from some flawed business belief in the survival of the fittest. I've never heard a tech person advocate for it, I only ever hear it from business types.
It seems you have failed to consider that the meaning of something is subjective and that for you it means nothing and lacks depth, while for others it is profound in its depth. In situations like this, I often find it more productive to examine why it seems like others are getting something out of it while I am not. Perhaps this is an opportunity to grow!
"anti baby pills" is an interesting term, here in the U.S. we normally call it "contraceptives". I'm assuming you're in Europe, I know in German it would be "Antibabypillen".
I don't think the person you were responding to argued that removing those hurdles would create the most active business creation in the world. Enabling successful business creation is a worthy goal, one I think you'd agree France does accomplish. Not being the superlative isn't the same as failure.
It's not weird because where you expect it to be is where it is, if it were somewhere else (some distant ansible transmission) you would be used to that and think it weird to imagine it being in the body.
I mean I get it but your annoyance in this case appears to be directed at evangelicals on the internet you are free to ignore, as opposed to coworkers the presence of whom you have little choice. Maybe you are less free to complain about coworkers and so instead complain here? Either way, your complaining is no less annoying than the thing you're complaining about.
And yet what I responded to was a restatement of the same "deeply dull line of thinking" as you put it that triggered the responses you say I'm restating. I'm not sure what your point is, other than to say people on the internet tend to restate things.
I assume comments like that are from people who are conflicted by the fact that if their head weren't so far up their ass they would have entertained the notion enough to at least acquire a few bitcoin, but because it's now too late it's better to celebrate just how far up their ass their head is.
I get the joke, but the literalist inside me wants to always point out when I hear this that it's not as though he stops being the founder of Microsoft in the few seconds he stops to pick up money.
He doesn't lose money by picking up money. It's more than likely less than the daily market fluctuation of a single stock of MSFT, but stopping to pick up money doesn't interrupt or halt his income in any way.
That sounds like the basic premise of "Waiting for Guffman". The characters of Blaine Missouri are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the settlement of their town by reenacting it. Basically the original settlers were trying to get to California but their guide managed to convince them that although they couldn't see the ocean because the tide was out, they had arrived. I just watched it the other night, pretty funny.
I wonder how often this sort of thing happened. I imagine it was pretty common, knowing how difficult travel was back then.
People are strongly opinionated about everything if the internet forums are any indication. I think the truth is more like opinionated people speak up, and most people just enjoy life.
This sounds like an aristocratic response to a revolution. I don’t mean this as dismissive, I mean that clearly there are enough people dissatisfied with the status quo that they are taking measures surprising to those satisfied with the status quo.
Since we're doing JMK quotes, he also said "Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that he nastiest of men, for the nastiest of reasons, will somehow work for the benefit of us all."
Well regardless, the ease with which people take up arms against anyone who like something different from them is strange.
There are no objective truths about metal or plastic as a material for headphones, just what people prefer. I love the metal. But apparently, enjoying my headphones means to some that I've been brainwashed. I find the assertion ludicrous on its face.
> But you are brainwashed, thinking you need metal on your head instead of plastic which is far superior and lighter.
What a strange sentence. Most reasonable people would probably agree nobody "needs" neither plastic nor metal on their head, but rather when enjoying music or other sonic entertainment pick one or the other for any number of reasons, probably not including that they've been brainwashed into thinking they need this or that material to do it.
With respect, web sockets are a tool. If you think it is inappropriate to use a tool a certain way then your are obviously free to feel that way, but it seems a little “get off my lawn” to be upset with other folks finding creative uses for it.
My team is using live view and accomplishing incredible things with far less time and effort than we would need using other SPA technologies.
I have no idea how you can assert SSE, HTTP2 and SPAs are 1000% simpler when my experience over the last two years has been the exact opposite. Live view is exceedingly simple to work with.
Thanks for some sources. I spent a lot of time looking through them but was unable to find evidence Newton predicted the events the person I’m responding to claims he did.
Not to mention the better than Bluetooth things Apple are doing. Seamlessly switching between devices, etc. I, for one, have never wanted form fitting ear buds more than a good wireless experience.
In general, I don't disagree but isn't the second point ultimately a tautology? Certainly an otherwise law abiding citizen might arm themself with no intention of committing a further crime.
That was a fascinating read, but without links to the original I have to remain a little bit skeptical. I tried to access the documents in your second link hoping I could search for myself, but it looks like I'm locked out.
