jakenotjacob··on Why are antennas popping up over the Salt Lake City foothills?
If these were HAM repeaters instead, it would be a cool thing.
jakenotjacob··on There Should Be No Computer Art (1971) [pdf]
The author seems more interested in the emotions provoked from art and attempting to measure them rather than critique art itself or computer generation of it.

I think he fails to understand that our emotional experiences differ based on the art, and cannot be easily measured. (Three people separating taking in artwork will come out with different feelings upon viewing it.)

jakenotjacob··on Amazon Alexa is a “colossal failure,” on pace to lose $10B this year
It's been a build in progress since 2007 at least, according to public web scraper logs.

15 years without a stable, usable product makes this unsurprising.

jakenotjacob··on Launch HN: Kalshi (YC W19) – A regulated exchange for trading on events
This isn't exciting or moral.

YC's standards have plummeted.

I very honestly do not at all agree with your platform or hope for it's success.

jakenotjacob··on Ask HN: Is it ok to reject a job because I don’t like their software?
One of the biggest 'internal surveys' in bigger tech companies are about workflows and hampers.

This really boils down to concerns on deployment efforts, but when you can't get the basic comm channels reasonable, absolutely there is a big issue.

You need to set your standards higher and realize the impacts of basic amenities being junk.

jakenotjacob··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Do you feel good initiatives require someone to be political to be apart of?

Watered down a bit more... do you believe someone can be a good person without affiliating with a group in order to do it?

That's very odd to me... Similar in vein to self-studied engineers/academics vs those who need a college group of peers to do it.

jakenotjacob··on Why Twitter Is Failing to Grow
It's much more important to sustain than to grow.

A better metric would be 'longest active using user base', and sustanance of it.

All things that grow can fall, it's endurance that's key.
