jak6jak··on How to ask for help from people who don't know you
From what I have seen online like for Reddit discord and online forums is that the questions with the most responses tend to be almost the exact opposite of what this post says. What you got to do is bait the audience into responding. It usually follows the following formula: Title: “woe is me this problem with well documented answers is troubling me!”

Body: a vague description of what the problem is and what they’ve tried. Leaving out key details that would drastically change the answer.

Response to answers: now that you have them hooked most answers will be actual questions about what your original post lacked to clarify. Be sure to respond to these as the more engagement on your post makes the algorithm show it to more people. And the second round of answers has a higher chance of answering your question.

Wait until a critical mass of people have seen and attempted answering your question to exhaustion. Hopefully you will be able to piece together a solution.

jak6jak··on Tailscale Peer Relays is now generally available
That seems really exciting! If you wanted to share game streaming to a general public would they have to install tailscale on their device/login? How does that work? Am I right in assuming that tailscale is built mostly for sharing resources with people you trust instead of the general public?
jak6jak··on Tailscale Peer Relays is now generally available
I looked into tailscale in the past as a way to host a game server such as minecraft on my local machine publicly without port forwarding . It seems that tailscale is mostly configured only to work with people you know and trust. I was hoping that Peer Relays would help alleviate some restrictions with tailwind funnel. Does anyone know any alternatives?
jak6jak··on Art of Roads in Games
OP must of hit a nerve here but In games like city skylines a big difficulty of large cities built in the game is handling car traffic. A lot of which is solved by public transport, walking paths and other "apirational" city structures that are hard to realize in real life. I've watched alot of fun videos on youTube of a certain youtuber apply these techniques to other people's saves to great success. It's honestly a fun challenge to solve.
jak6jak··on Art of Roads in Games
Everyone is raving about this article. It feels so much like a tease to me. Maybe I'm just impatient idk.
jak6jak··on Ai.com – Hug of Death
What can Ai.com do for you? Makes rainbow with hands, anything you can imagine! Seems more like an ad for somebody to buy the domain than an actual potential product.
jak6jak··on I started a little math club in Bangalore
I want to create my own club in a small town. Not necessary in math but in gamedev. How did you get people to show up for the first meeting?
jak6jak··on The Art of Dithering and Retro Shading for the Web (2024)
Very pretty website. I really like the transparency for the nav bar. I would like to emulate this style in my own website. I wish I knew how to add texture to a website that makes it feel unique and not flat. Perhaps I should look into 3d postprocessing effects and how to apply that to a 2d website
jak6jak··on The Perfect Voxel Engine (2021)
Are voxels the goto method for easy mesh manipulation without worrying about vertices? I’ve been trying to research ways to 3d model without worrying about topology. So far all I’ve found is CSG and voxels.
jak6jak··on Asking 60 LLMs a set of 20 questions
Which LLM is best for coding? Specifically code architecture and system design. I can't really find any comparisons of this online they mostly focus on commonly solved coding problems.
jak6jak··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
My friends and I used to watch movies almost every night online during COVID and to decide on the movie I created a polling website that pulls information from TMDB. It was really useful because we could see the movie description, genre and length right there while voting instead of having to google for every movie title. I planned on adding new voting methods as well instead of majority vote like ranked voting, a movie randomizer that the chance a movie wins is based on how many votes it has and others. Unfortunately, we no longer watch that many movies together so the incentive to add those features decreased.
jak6jak··on From Pythonista to Rustacean
What would you recommend for ground up learning?
jak6jak··on Ask HN: Best online CS BS for people with disability
Hey thanks for the reply! I have a couple questions that I wasn't able to find on WGU website: * What role does the mentor serve? Is it more like an advisor or teacher that can help you with course content? * How long are you allowed to meet with your mentor and how often? * How do you learn the material are there lectures or do you have to google most things? * How difficult is it to get 12 credit hours how much time per day does it require?
jak6jak··on Porting WebGL Shaders to WebGPU
Really glad you made this article. Do you guys use rust for webGPU?
jak6jak··on Graphics Programming Weekly
I tried the book of shaders but I think I got stuck when it got into the algorithmic drawing. I kept on getting confused on each individual line and how it fit into creating the whole picture especially when smoothstep() is involved. As for what I want to make, nothing in particular right now my end goal is perhaps to get a job as a graphical programmer somewhere.
jak6jak··on Graphics Programming Weekly
I saw that book but was confused on the way to use it. Are you supposed to follow along and turn the pseudo code into a real implementation? Or is meant to be Passively read while perhaps taking notes?
jak6jak··on Graphics Programming Weekly
I’ve always wanted to get into graphical programming but I always get hung up on creating anything. Shaders feel like black magic to me. And the tutorials are spread across many different technologies and techniques that it’s hard to determine where you should start.
