what?
jacobjuul··on T-Ruby is Ruby with syntax for types
is this made entirely with AI (claude)? I can't get trc to watch. The docs says trc watch is the correct command, but it's actually trc --watch. On top of that it doesn't compile anything or report any errors

but asking the author (who didn't even submit this link), to change his website due to your preference of not using js seems a bit priviliged. Enable js, or move on.

jacobjuul··on Why have cameras and lenses become so expensive?
what I do is have an SD card reader for my phone and ipad. It's miles better (of course) than all the different connectivity apps that the camera brands offer.
jacobjuul··on A new jailbreak for a new era
What kind of skills are required to get started in jailbreaking? I am guessing some assembly and C would be helpful. Not even sure what to search for to get started.

I am not really interested in jailbreaking iPhones, but I have some equipment from the early 2000s running software that are no longer maintained that I'd love to tweak.

jacobjuul··on Can an extreme low carb diet be used as medicine?
you don't say how much you eat, but are you testing your ketones after eating meat? Protein in moderate to high quantities (especially lean proteins) can pull you out of ketoses quite easily.

I have done 10-day fasts pretty easily. However, the difference is that when you are doing a voluntary fast, it is just that - voluntary. I imagine not knowing when your fast will end (if ever), will change your attitude and behavior a great deal.

Modern trainers handle it just fine. I used to be a professional cyclist and would log about 20 hours inside/week during winter.

You can also get a roller with resistance, that is probably the best investment I ever made.

For people in the US I recommend http://www.insideride.com/ and in Europe the equivalent is this: https://www.elite-it.com/en/products/home-trainers/rollers/q...

jacobjuul··on Consider Renaming Gimp to a Less Offensive Name
I don't agree nor disagree since I've never heard that word used for anything else than the software. But by this logic, we should also rename git
jacobjuul··on Consider Renaming Gimp to a Less Offensive Name
If you do a google search for GIMP you literally get no references to the slur.
jacobjuul··on Consider Renaming Gimp to a Less Offensive Name
Do you also take offense on the word GNOME? which the dictionary defines as "a small ugly person".

How about DALCOP? Which means a particularly stupid person.

Apple (North America) an American Indian (Native American) who is "red on the outside, white on the inside". Used primarily by other American Indians to indicate someone who has lost touch with their cultural identity. First used in the 1970s.

I really don't think that's an unreasonable amount. Most people are renting this equipment for professional use and should easily be able to put that money down.
jacobjuul··on The Heart of a Swimmer vs. the Heart of a Runner
some interesting reading on the topic:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29174581 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28168782

(you can find more by searching PubMed). Granted I have mostly done research on cyclists. What we tend to see is an increase in the strength of respiratory musculature which leads to an increase in functional lung capacity and this capacity would not vary much between individuals (even between pro cyclists and high-level amateurs). More important than lung capacity for performance is your diffusing capacity (how fast you can move oxygen from lungs to your red blood cells). In sports other than swimming, it's always possible to breathe faster, which benefits from a strong respiratory musculature.

when it comes to freedivers, it's slightly different. They are forcefully stretching their lungs (which doesn't happen with normal aerobic training or breath holding to the same extent)

in this study https://erj.ersjournals.com/content/41/3/760.long they stretched their lungs as much as +800 ml.

jacobjuul··on The Heart of a Swimmer vs. the Heart of a Runner
Lung capacity can only be improved a little bit with training (we're talking 5-10% range) and it's a poor indicator of your fitness level. Either you have a genetically larger lung capacity than your brother and dad, or you are simply better at filling your lungs to their full capacity. VO2MAX has nothing to do with lung capacity (if you're healthy)
jacobjuul··on The new MacBook Pros with T2 chips do indeed kernel panic randomly
For me, the problem is that I need a mac for iOS development (and sketch). I know I can rent an OSX machine in the cloud, but I foresee a lot of frustration going that route (plus high cost).

I currently own a maxed out 2017 15" model. The control and "H" buttons don't work. So I am using an external keyboard.

I could get them replaced, but service will take three weeks (due to high demand) and they have to have the actual laptop the entire time.

Me too, so far it has been the best solution. Some things you have to fiddle with for a long time to get working. But overall very good.
