I imagine it's not worth the cost. There isn't that much meat to be had and the bodies would have to be processed quickly or kept alive to prevent spoilage. The agency in charge of all of this probably lacks the equipment to do any of this, assuming it would be cost beneficial to do it in the first place.
jackmoore··on LED Bulbs Save Substantial Energy
Heat generated by a lightbulb is near the ceiling where air is probably not being well circulated. So unless you are installing fans around the base of your bulbs to move the warm air around the room where it would be useful to the inhabitants, it is mostly wasted. This is assuming that the heat is even desirable.
jackmoore··on Ask HN: what's the best business you've ever seen?
eBay - they take a cut to list, sell, and on payment (through paypal). It costs them almost nothing to host an auction. The community driven nature of the business means naturally leans toward a monopoly and makes it very difficult for new startups to compete.
jackmoore··on Common Usability Mistakes
If you are separating your markup from presentation, it is unnecessary. Give your markup the property hierarchy and then arrange things via your presentation layer.
jackmoore··on Ask HN: Learning Javascript & AJAX
Well stated. You loose momentum in becoming a better programmer by getting bogged down in trivia of no real consequence.
jackmoore··on Internet Explorer 8 runs ten times faster with Google Chrome plug-in
Great things aren't going to happen by just having him on the payroll, Microsoft would have to make good use of his abilities by giving him resources, time, meaningful work, and not undermine his efforts. If they just throw him into unfocused micro-manged bureaucracy then it's just a waste.
jackmoore··on Call for more babies as China turns to grey
Why don't we just give them some of ours.
jackmoore··on Blockbuster to close as many as 960 stores
Oh they will eventually cut much more than that.

That. Sounds. Awful.
jackmoore··on Competition Offers $250,000 to Design Pedal-Powered Helicopter
Might as well make it a million.
jackmoore··on TWiST Episode 14 with Garry Tan (Posterous)
Someone should count the number of times they said 'sponsors'.
jackmoore··on Why College Costs Rise, Even in a Recession
Because it's a racket.
jackmoore··on New ICANN policy stops domain tasting
About fucking time.
jackmoore··on Ask HN: Where do you live?
Sandy Springs
jackmoore··on Solar energy in Israel: It's a knockout
T.Boone's mistake was backing McCain in the presidential election. I lost trust in him when he was willing to back policies that were polar opposite to what he claims to be in favor of.
jackmoore··on China Bans Gold Farming
Why would they do this? Seems like any money flowing into the economy would be a good thing.
jackmoore··on No Recovery in Sight
As if the topic wasn't scary enough, they mixed up Bob Herbert's photo with that of Frankenstein.
jackmoore··on The Accidental Diet
I assume this does not work because the article was written nearly 4 years ago. Where are the results?
jackmoore··on Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 at the height of cynicism
How can they call FireFox 'old'? IE8 may be the best IE, but it's still a year or more behind the other browsers, and FF is very actively being developed. 3.5RC1 just came out in the past 24 hours.
jackmoore··on Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 at the height of cynicism
What are you talking about? They couldn't be bothered to update IE6 for years, and it still holds people back every day. How much time is wasted trying to get things to work in IE6? It's a ball an chain that web developers drag around and it slows progress by wasting their time and limiting their applications. Only recently have some websites been dropping support for IE6.

To say he was from another era underestimates just how relevant his words still are, and why he is persistently quoted. I love his stand-up, but I also find it so profoundly depressing. I can't help but to think how sad he would be today if he could see how little things have changed.
jackmoore··on [dead]
Agreed. He's definitely not saying that life is meaningless, but that we accepted the status quo as the only way life can be lived and that we lose so much because of that.
jackmoore··on RIP Internet Explorer: 1995-2021
You can turn those off, but yes, they are incredibly annoying and most users don't realize they can be disabled. If you do something like MS Update, where there are a lot of redirects, you'll hear 15 or so clicks in rapid succession. It's like they've never even used their own browser.
jackmoore··on Bill Gates' Battle to get into Augusta (1998)
Why would Bill Gates care about such bullshit? Minus nerd points for him.
jackmoore··on Caring for your introvert
"The worst of it is that extroverts have no idea of the torment they put us through. Sometimes, as we gasp for air amid the fog of their 98-percent-content-free talk, we wonder if extroverts even bother to listen to themselves."

Listening to someone talk out of their ass is absolute torture. Honestly, it is something that I have a very difficult time sitting through.

jackmoore··on Advanced PHP Tips Revisited
Ternary is advanced and confusing? It's neither of those things.
