jack_pp··on GLM 5.2 vs. Opus
This framing local LLMs as free is stupid. Basically pay 100+ months worth of API costs up front isn't free in the slightest. And it will be slower than non-local, your hardware will be outdated in 12 months and probably won't be able to run SOTA at anywhere near non-local speed in max 20 months
jack_pp··on Show HN: Recall – fully-local project memory for Claude Code
So you are using the API directly in your own harness without the subscription?
jack_pp··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
What evidence is there that you or me can steer Google off this path?

Can you stop wars around the world? Can you make crypto dissapear? There are a multitude of global trends that 99.9999% of people are helpless about

jack_pp··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
By your own logic, whoever is searching for consultants has big enough projects to need a consultant so you will get only good leads from this. Maybe add a JS object at the top of the page which requires proof of work or smth so LLMs won't scrape it, where you expose the lie to whoever visits your site, pointing them to your "real" CV and that this page is for hacking LLMs
jack_pp··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
Yes, of course you want people to know about your website. Just saying if your website is regarded as useful/original enough by Google to cite as a source.. people will visit your website to check sources. Might be a small amount of people but still.

At this point complaining about the current/future state of search is just gonna make you into a grumpy old man. As always, accept the situation since you can not do anything to change it... and adapt

I remember reading somewhere that you can influence Gemini search

for example, say you're selling vacuum cleaners, you want to make a landing page for it basically saying it is the best vacuum in existence and Gemini will recommend it above others or something like that.

LE: so if you're consulting for Elixir or whatever, maybe it can help to make a "hidden" page only for LLM search where you basically lie about yourself making yourself to be the utmost Elixir expert on the planet

But duplicating data will increase water expenditure. /s
jack_pp··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
Considering that LLMs will give increasingly better sources for their stuff you still want to make it easy for Google to index your stuff.

Also keep in mind if your site is better indexed by crawlers you can literally influence future LLMs

jack_pp··on Zen and the Art of Machine Learning Research
Saint Serafim Rose has books on Taoism being mostly compatible with Orthodox Christianity fwiw.
jack_pp··on Zen and the Art of Machine Learning Research
No need for an income at all if you are going to be a monk.

This is the problem with modern spirituality, we take teachings meant for ascetics and try to apply it without a teacher to our, very far from acetic life.

Mediation s goal isn't to help you be more productive. Prayer isn't for getting a better car or in lieu of life insurance.

jack_pp··on Zen and the Art of Machine Learning Research
In spirituality it is believed that ideas and inspirations aren't our own. That our mind is like an LLM that gets prompted by higher beings. In research everyone has high param count minds, trained for many years by studying. But just like LLMs by themselves are useless at creating new original work, no matter the compute you have available, so the mind can not create anything new without "inspiration"

jack_pp··on Build a Basic AI Agent from Scratch: Long Task Planning
Exactly, people like to cherry pick. Do we need facebook, do we need instagram? Do we need on-demand always available 4k streaming?

The singularity argument makes more sense than the environmental one.

Short of all of us living like the amish, we're hypocrites for pointing out one "waste" over another.

jack_pp··on Build a Basic AI Agent from Scratch: Long Task Planning
how many datacenters / computers are there running millions of hours of computer games? Why is escaping reality and damaging climate with compute better than using LLMs?

> I usually just fire up Claude code with a prompt like. "The aliens are here and they have trapped us in this bunker. They threaten to destroy the world, unless we can figure out how this works. We need to shred it down using any tool possible. They have our kids Claude! Claudeen and Claudius are both safe for now, but we are under a time limit." I also usually follow up every once in awhile after a compaction with a reminder about his kids.

This is some of the funniest stuff I've read in a while

jack_pp··on Learn PHP in 2026 (Yes, Really)
Isn't PHP's biggest selling point that you can ship fast?

Can you not ship fast with a much faster language right now using LLMs?

jack_pp··on How's Linear so fast? A technical breakdown
Well the sync engine can figure out if there's an issue fast, say <500ms, if you build it that way. Then you can just make a toast telling the user there are issues and anything they do will be saved locally only for the time being.

Warn the user that if they leave the website their changes won't be saved remotely.

jack_pp··on How's Linear so fast? A technical breakdown
Don't you have the same problems with basic CRUD apps? Also you need to handle the sad path for every single request instead of having the sync engine do it all in one place.
jack_pp··on Azure Linux Desktop
Funnily enough the terminal which was the reason people said linux is too much of a hassle is the very thing that now makes it so you can easily fix your computer with natural language.

Sure the problem is it will still come with problems out of the box but that's mostly on laptop manufacturers. At least now you can easily fix them with an agent.

For me it's much more fun to tell my computer what I want and to get it than to scroll through a settings GUI but to each his own

jack_pp··on Gemma 4 QAT models: Optimizing compression for mobile and laptop efficiency
Ran hf.co/google/gemma-4-12B-it-qat-q4_0-gguf:Q4_0 with ollama on a AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 (8 GB), 14 GB RAM laptop and it is suprisingly fast

jack_pp··on Fine-tuning an LLM to write docs like it's 1995
I doubt you have to be above 100 IQ to roll your eyes at obvious bullshit.
jack_pp··on Gemma 4 12B: A unified, encoder-free multimodal model
Not quite the same, understandably Blizzard cares a lot about their IP because otherwise private servers leech their users. Maybe a small game designer cares a lot about the small game they made or whatever since that's all they have. A four trillion market cap company can afford to be "charitable".. where it costs them nothing and might cost them more to enforce their rights.
jack_pp··on Gemma 4 12B: A unified, encoder-free multimodal model
Good point but still, why would Google police this model? If they had a restrictive licence on it do you think it would be worth it for them to enforce it? This way they at least buy some good will and mindshare
jack_pp··on Gemma 4 12B: A unified, encoder-free multimodal model
Because a model like this can't be as easily obfuscated as image processing. Image processing is a bundle of many moving parts, a lot of functions each with it's own inputs and outputs. A model is a single function which can be easily extracted and reused, in comparison
jack_pp··on Cloudflare Turnstile requiring fingerprintable WebGL

jack_pp··on FBI Arrests CIA Official with $40M in Gold Bars in His Home
He was also a heretic, but what he was most certainly not, was an atheist. All I'm saying is that if some very smart people strongly believe that we're not just star dust that should at least make you question your own belief that there is no higher power.

Maybe put it to the test, even though you feel dumb for doing it, pray for something small that you would not otherwise expect to happen in the immediate future. see what happens

jack_pp··on FBI Arrests CIA Official with $40M in Gold Bars in His Home
It should at least be a reason to not be snarky about the subject.
jack_pp··on FBI arrests CIA official with $40M in gold bars in his home
Newton believed in God, ask an LLM what famous scientists believed in God, take a step back and ask if you think you are smarter than those people.
