I think it is the other way around, too many brands lowered their quality enough that general consumers no longer believe (or perceive) the "premium" options to be worth it.
Might as well gamble and get the cheapest option that does not hurt the wallet too much, when high-quality is so rare these days.
I guess what feels wrong to me is the implicitness of this feature, I'm not sure whether clicking on something is going to add to history or not (until the back button breaks, then I really know).
Well, if I wanted to return to the parent screen in a single page application, I'd click on the back button in the app itself. No need to prevent me from back tracking in the exact order of my browsing should I need it.
I especially hate YouTube's implementation, I can never know the true state on my older PC during whatever it's trying to accomplish, often playing audio from a previous video when I backspace out. I resort to opening every link in a new tab.
I guess it's cheaper than having to redesign an entire SoC, but still...
Which defeats the whole point. What if the FBI politely asks Signal about a phone number?
The geniuses behind Unicode managed to make it mandatory anyways, at least if you want correct CJK text rendering :)
I hate kernel level anti-cheats but they do provide friction and reduce cheating.
It would be such irony if they asked GPT to reword it to a more polite tone though...
Seems that this is exactly what Mozilla did? And Microsoft, and Reddit, etc.
Thank you for all the efforts that went into preserving the memories of those that built the world around us.
I hate to nit-pick on such a beautiful story but that it ended with a faux-Ghibli profile picture is just sad.
How can someone working so hard to humanize technology and preserve history, justify this soul-less commodification of art? Do the animators deserve to get treated as anonymous model trainers without their consent, names and frames lost in a dead ocean of bit-vectors?
CP is often used as an "I win" card in this kind of arguments, as it can stir up emotions in the general public, in favor of ever expanding scope of surveillance and censorship. We should be extra aware of this.
The Four Horsemen of the Infocalypse strike again!
They definitely do, it's just that hand writing has become a more niche use case in modern society (regardless of the language).
If you removed all kanji in a block of Japanese text (replaced with kana), I'd expect at least a 50% reduction in reading speed for natives, and some errors in comprehension. They're fundamental to the language.
