j_schmuck··on Introducing: Google Passport (Analytical Fiction)
This one was pretty fun to write, just to consider why a company would want to transcend the boundary separating the comparatively simple, obviously motivated and bounded world of business for the much more difficult, risky, and obtuse world of statecraft
j_schmuck··on Curtis Yarvin's Monarchal Antifascism
In what context? I think the quantization of politics is ultimately to its detriment, at least as far as theory goes. The spatial relationships and affinities between political systems seem to confuse the matter almost. I struggle to think of what the purpose of a more complex set of coordinates supplies us with true or useful knowledge about a political system.
j_schmuck··on Curtis Yarvin's Monarchal Antifascism
The political coordinate plane is an interesting one, because it's often presented in an implied context of "what would I choose as my government, were I to decide its nature and orientation," which is a strangely liberal mindset about politics. The idea that choices are made, and not that circumstance and history create in political culture.

Is it possible for a political axis to exist with sufficient dimensions to accurately represent the qualia of a historical political movement? Or is all of this fact-based description of something that has a larger existence?

j_schmuck··on Jason Stanley's Fascist Spectrum
I think this is generally true, but do you think that fascism might be a historically contingent politics, as dead as Stalinism in a practical sense, and equally unrevivable? Fascism proved to be quite politically sterile in the nations that were spared forcible political correction following World War 2.

What is fascism to you exactly? Stanley's outline is insufficient I think because it considers all right politics to be on a pathway to fascism, which ignores the different kinds of right politics that have existed throughout history, as well as the reality of fascism itself.

j_schmuck··on Political Fairytales for Managerworld's Failchildren
I do think that's central to it, the managerworld is not profit driven necessarily, but it is quite focused on success, failure, and iteration driven by these heuristics. The focus on management prevents the creation of a central legitimating narrative, which differentiates them from the central political sphere of the state, even as their ideology infects the state.
j_schmuck··on Tech Monopolies: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
I mean this is just the natural order of industry and governance, they will be closely linked to the point of obvious corruption and oligarchy. Oligarchy is the natural form of government.

I still don't really understand how Oliver feels outrage at the normal functioning of the only government he is willing to live in, where his political views are the norm, and them being dissatisfied has made him wealthy and influential in a way he never could have been as a humor-focused comedian.

j_schmuck··on [dead]
While politics may become absurd, it is my position that it is not fixable, nor is fixing it a sincere desire of the current political class.

From the perspective of the Biden family becoming a political dynasty, and from the perspective of the Democrats wanting to run something against Trump less broken than Joe Biden's record, it will be important to outflank Trump's singular strategic advantage, the constant trainwreck manner of his public persona.

j_schmuck··on One paper just blew up Bitcoin's claim to anonymity
I'd figured watching the Canadian feds almost without effort seize crypto assets of their political undesirables made it clear that there was no layer of anonymity or security to cryptocurrency, and that they could easily be made as regulable as nearly any other asset
j_schmuck··on The human toll of Fallout 76’s launch
Why are megaprojects so reliably running into these protracted fucked launches? What are the actual managerial processes like? How are basic failures of planning and scope and quality so constant for the biggest players in the industry?

What actual ingredients are missing?

j_schmuck··on The Politics of Bitcoin: Software as Right-Wing Extremism
Any challenge to the existing financial architecture of the world is right wing extremism now, huh?
j_schmuck··on Lunch Break, a Brief History of the Third Industrial Revolution
What do you think is the actual future of the managerial society? Do you think it forms a separate and distinct political economy from liberal capitalism?
j_schmuck··on Lunch Break, a Brief History of the Third Industrial Revolution
Glad you liked it!
j_schmuck··on TikTok fueled disinformation, political tension in Kenya ahead of elections
You ever wonder what the hell disinformation actually is? I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's just a smokescreen used to obscure the fact that conventional propaganda techniques are being outpaced by competing ones.
j_schmuck··on World War 3 and the Unknowability of Elon Musk’s Drug Habits
you really think twitter has a chance to help make people smarter? like the parable of the scorpion of the frog lol, said the scorpion lmao
j_schmuck··on [dead]
Two ways the deep center can help you live your life slightly better
