j45··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
I'm looking for the pile of studies I had come across, here's a few to help link to more.

Cerebral Creatine levels seem to be a different thing.

Creatine and TBI:

Creatine supplementation for naturally declining creatine levels:

j45··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
I thought it was too, then I started learning about how so many studies about Creatine were only in the body, and not the brain..

And then there were the discoveries of creatine in the brain in studies.

j45··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Not a typo, 20g+ a day.

Dosing for gym exercise is different than dosing for excess creatine to reach the brain.

Well studied, checked with my doctor, including for TBI. Obviously everyone should check for themselves.

j45··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
It's beyond crazy, lol. How many grams are you doing a day?

It has replaced in some ways caffeine for me.

The part of where creatine wipes out sleep deficit sounded like a stretch, but it definitely helps.

j45··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
Creatine is one of the most studied supplements.

It sounds you have the hardest part of it underway - consistency.

There's lots of studies - if you can get over 20g per day it is noticeable to the brain and energy. Adding a few grams a week until you're up there I found it noticeable. 20-30g seems to be a noticeable range.

Supplements aren't always like a coffee spike, they build up and sustain quite well.

j45··on Why Omarchy Exists
It's ok to downvote this, doesn't mean it has to be comfortable to have some chats, it's where we all can learn by starting with ourselves.

Edit:

Not fishing for upvotes.

It's ok to realize something you liked using might come from something that's not good and working through that.

Other people who are willing to overlook it: https://omarchy.org/patrons/

j45··on Why Omarchy Exists
While building on top of open source that was contributed to by enough people who didn't look like him.
j45··on Why Omarchy Exists
If by "people can say what they want" means some people are ok to dismiss casual racism because it doesn't affect them and they can enjoy the fruits, so be it.

I tried it out and it has some interesting perks, but will ultimately suffer from a smaller community.

We know how much rails suffered before it had to grow up and scale, instead of "just buy more servers". This doesn't mean it's wrong, or right, only that it's not universal.

My guess is omarchy outright, or some of it's experience will transfer to other distros.

And I finally got an intro to ArchLinux where I got to spend more time using instead of tinkering. I value building more than tinkering or sys admining even if I know how to do it.

j45··on Why Omarchy Exists
Omarchy is interesting, not for tokenmaxxing, but that's it's just easier to work between whatever steps you are working through as a pipeline, whcih can include ai steps, or not one per window.

I realize that's the window manager, but being up and running on a ready to go setup in 10 minutes is something neat too that I hope can become an option for other distors.

j45··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
It seems like if you're interested in a role it's ok to apply and be in their system and that much more discoverable.

Being able to reach out and have a chat with the HR manager either way also makes a candidate more human.

j45··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
Faster is great, hopefully the quality remains.
j45··on Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived
Could the security hole not be closed up?

Maybe there's a way to run them more securely with a wrapper.

It does make sense to try and move to a sql db of some type, and my immediate thought is if something like Postgres, with a plugin or extension or two couldn't simulate enough of Foxpro.

That, or rewriting large parts of the DB engine seem readily much more possible now with LLM driven development.

j45··on The most important product decision is what you don't build
Building the right thing > building/not building anything
j45··on Learning Programming in an Age of LLMs
Learning to program is learning to think and still important to learn.

The current state of vibe or assisted / automated coding is still improving, it sometimes still can end up like cowboy coding gone wild.

j45··on Show HN: How Stale Is Your AI? Release age and training cutoff for 20 models

j45··on OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Ads with Sponsored Agents

j45··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
I wonder if for anyone it seems like the more agentic LLMs get, the more difficult some things have gotten or going a certain route more often in responses, compared to running a similar task on - a local model?
j45··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Always, and only use an external device for streaming services, never the software built into the TV.

Apple TV, Android TV or other devices are perfectly capable and better integrate with mobile and other devices in your network.

The tradeoff consumers are sold is trading convenience of in device apps for security.

Smart home devices like TVs, and thermostats should be treated as default hostile and isolated on a guest wireless network instead of your main one.

j45··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Both are unacceptably egregious and done for zero benefit of the customer and a disproportionate and asymmetric benefit for the manufacturer.

I've been trying to learn how to secure LG TVs, and saw that some people do seem to jailbreak them withan open version of webOS.

j45··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Regardless of it being how it always was done, such a finger print can easily be injected into LG's advertising ecosystem to infer everything about your demographic and what your interests and income might be and hit you with more specialized ads.

What we watch is not OK to be fed ads, especially if I wasn't using their service to being with and its monitoring the audio from any input to do this.

In this way, smart tvs and smart home devices are effectively hostile devices behind your router at home.

j45··on Will there be a 7G?
There will always be a faster technology, regardless of what it's called.
j45··on How SaaS startup guys get first 100 customers first, make fkn $500k ARR fast?
Appreciate the post.

Want to clarify that lazy and ai spamming on LinkedIn is lame, especially for non-tech sales people selling technology.

Also, b2b sales can be foreign to most people - when i've done b2b sales on linkedin it's mostly about just building a relationship. The 5% of the market that is ready to buy will always self identify if they are looking for help.

I'm saying this as someone who has ba background in technology and helping companies purchase software.

There are better ways to use LinkedIn to earn interest and attention of those small percentages that move forward.

Knowing your stuff and how to apply it and not confusing talking for doing is critical.

Influencers who sell courses on topcs they are new to themselves might think introducing people to topics is a cashflow stream, but most will move on and it will be a leaky bucket.

j45··on How SaaS startup guys get first 100 customers first, make fkn $500k ARR fast?
Just because someone says something on the internet doesn't mean it's true. It's critical to do the CBT or other work to remind ourselves of this.

There is no real get rich scheme. Someone might have 10-15 years of experience and know how something is priced in an inefficient market and know how to capitalize on it (they understand how people buy). In those cases there can be quicker approaches to leverage.

If you do not have funding, you probably need to set aside most startup advice. The resources and time you have available are entirely different.

Spending on ads can be a waste of time if you don't know know to retain the customers you keep.

Google one phrase: Founder-led sales.

Founder-led sales is what must be done before having delusions of product-l ed growth. I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just a question of whether you notice how many new things you're trying to learn to do at once.

The secret that you have available to you is you can spend one week building, and then one week in market showing what you've built and getting feedback.

Most people will make their life much harder by picking a startup in an industry that they don't know, trying to solve a problem they've never had nor know the depths of. It can be a subtle form of self-sabotage.

Being problem focused (problems of an identifiable company in the market that says yes to solving a probelm).

You must avoid the disease of building and selling an idea. Solving a problem that's verified is something else.

Back to founder led sales, this means, you, and you alone, must learn the needs from the market, and how to sell it, and get it going.

The first 100 customers is up to you. Do you know how to sell small, medium, or large customers?

Growth is about building an acquisition (marketing and sales system) that can distribute (product) something that can gain and retain customers from the market.

j45··on We must pace the frontier
Seeing the word pacing applied pacing to non-deterministic ai model development feels like imagining the "pace" of the cutting edge frontier growth will be fuzzy, like non-deterministic llms.
j45··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Leaving TVs disconnected from the internet is the only way to ignore this.

Connect your own devices and smarts to it.

A broader issue is that it does any kind of recording, or processing of the signals around the tv (from a microphone) or what is displayed on the tv (image) is both extremely private.

Privacy has been violated by LG according to their own wording. a way that is not controlled by settings.

What might LG want with an anonymized hash of the audio being played or shown on someone's screen?

Existing ad matching technology can link it with the video of what you're watching to build a shadow profile of you and then sell the attention of your eyeballs to advertising.

From there, simply what you watch, at what time, for how long roughly sets up a wonderful demographic of age, gender, interests, and all that fun stuff. This is an area of tv and video advertisign that has existed for a long time including online and cable tv boxes.

LG's statement that it doesn't move your info anywhere about what is being watched via audio seems to be a variant of this. Using the audio fingerprint, their software could request an ad for it from another system and direction.

So your information may not leave the TV indirectly, but thsi type of a mechanism does exist in cable tv boxes, etc.

With TVs absorbing the OTT (set top box) functions they are absorbing this too so their claims of how big their market is probably tied to being able to sell advertising into that ecosystem.

It’s likely an unadvertised function only for the benefit and leverage of LG and may be buried in signing your life away to use their “smart” tv functions as well.

A tiny crack in LG tvs can be an attack vector for security and safety. Whether it's audio, or video, or anything.

The best TV is a dumb tv, with all internet disabled and plug in your own smarts that you can hopefully manage better.

A brand is a promise of an experience. This brand has broken a promise and it can’t be pretending it didn’t.

j45··on Fuck it, make it anyway
The "agentic" stuff has come a long way recently, it's worth revisiting it every few months, it is better and better at taking on the tedium especially.
j45··on If coding is solved, what now?: Measuring the sloppiness of code
It will be fun to try and deterministically define sloppiness relative to a tool that is not deterministic.

Of course, sloppiness to date can be measured by different shared and interpreted preferences and definitions.

j45··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Its interesting that the move is back to native and not towards a technology better suited to delivering the same experience on multiple devices from one codebase.
j45··on Software Drives People Insane
Beautifully articulated.

Software that is not about the user and more about the developers or the providers struggles with alignment and optimizing for the outcomes of the user instead of their own.

j45··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1

Over time many things become easier to learn and do, and those who might feel upset should make sure their own feet are moving as well in terms of their learning and growing.
