Awesome job on launching it early. I appreciate the idea behind the live call monitoring, but it will be so hard to use that tool while a call is going on, I think it might be too hard to use.

Technical Artist | SBX Robotics | Fulltime | Remote | Toronto, Ontario, Canada

At SBX Robotics we teach robots to see using simulation. Remember when Neo learns Kung-Fu in The Matrix? It’s like that, but for robots.

We’re looking for a Technical Artist motivated to apply their skills to building virtual environments for robots to learn from. What is a game if not a simulated world?

You will help us revolutionize the world of computer vision, AI, and robotics by building photorealistic environments in UE4. This role is an opportunity to develop a broad “jack-of-all-trades” Technical Art skill set, learn about 3 cutting edge fields at once, grow with our nimble team, and help us build something fundamentally new. In this role, you will see the fruits of your labor make an impact in days - not in months or years.

This role offers an opportunity to be a jack-of-all-trades, to teach as well as execute, to quickly grow into a leadership position. This is interesting! Is this a rule of thumb or common sense in the infrastructure world or is it something which there are studies? If there are studies do you have some links I could read further on?

For a really fast consumer webcam, look at the PS3 Eyetoy (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Eye-3/dp/B000VTQ3LU).

There are very stable linux drivers out there for it and you can get up to 120fps. For a past project, my team was able to get up past 60FPS using this camera.

They are hoping that the same philosophies which apply to open source software will benefit Facebook providing open source hardware. They mention a few goals they have during the talk. Mainly that they hope people will offer criticism and help them improve the technology. Facebook's core competency is not hardware so any improvements to the hardware sector directly benefit Facebook's bottom-line.
