j16sdiz··on Branchless Rust: Making a Filter 4x Faster by Removing an If
They could.

but.... running PGO is just too much pain.

We can't do it "incrementally", can we? How about combining with LTO?

edit: I was thinking profiling individual module on a test driver and link them after PGO

j16sdiz··on Pass the Passkey: A Novel Attack Surface in Passwordless Authentication
From account security POV, it is better to disallow backup or export passkeys. Each device should get their unique key.

This would be quite bad from usability or privacy pov, I guess.

Ugh?

I thought application talks to the OS and the OS that check before it do the TPM thing.

j16sdiz··on AI fuels more than half of cybercrime in Africa as scams surge – Interpol
I got lots of iMessage spam try to get me to contact them via WhatsApp, signal or their own website.

Unless you ban mentioning other IM platform or communication channel, they will always try to get you on something less monitored

j16sdiz··on AI fuels more than half of cybercrime in Africa as scams surge – Interpol
> Why not use AI to detect and avoid scams?

Why would the scammer go thru your detector?

j16sdiz··on AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog

j16sdiz··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
> Note that government labor regulations are effectively just really one big union (called the government). Where would we be without them?

Playing devil's advocate:

- Having government functionally like one big union make individual union obsolete.

j16sdiz··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
We have gone a long way since industrial revolution.

e.g.

Child labor now outlawed.

There is a minimum wage. (You can argue it is still way to low, but going from zero to some is a huge change)

Some OSHA rules mandate employer provide safety equipment.

j16sdiz··on Postmortem for Kernel Soundness Bug #14576
err... There are always more ---> you can't make it "compete" by adding finite number of axioms
j16sdiz··on Show HN: I worked on a new browser for 2 years, today it passed Acid 3
Working with it for 2 years is impressive nevertheless.

Working with an agentic framework for more than a week make me want to throw it over the cliff

j16sdiz··on Why is everyone trying to build a solid-state battery?
What's the energy density for that? Something that works doesn't mean something is desirable
j16sdiz··on Show HN: Gander, an Android file viewer that asks for no permissions
First, `sharedUserId` is opt-in.

You need something like that for plugin / extension like system.

Third, it is being deprecated. and people are screaming "bad google" "android is no longer free!"

j16sdiz··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
It won't.

Do you aware how many people are locked out from access of the bank because the bank think they are too risky by some algorithm and no human review?

And people got rejected for flying because they have same name as somebody on no fly list?

j16sdiz··on Kill The Cookie Banner
I kinda of agree with you - there is no good solutions if we are only changing one or two things at a time .

I am kind of wanting to f around and found out. I missed the old internet were most of the big websites are run by hobbyist. I know some of them may not be able to pay the bill without ad. May we can figure out something once we leveled the playing field

j16sdiz··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
Choose a major distro, deal with poettering non-sense.
j16sdiz··on Fields Medals 2026
I think most undergrad level course on probability expose you to measure theory _without_ telling you they are measure theory.
j16sdiz··on 98.css
What about discoverability?

Multirow tab ai't pretty, but it allows you to know all your tabs -- unlike the modern scrollable tab bar that move one pixel on each click.

I guess this depends on you are using mouse clicks or have a touch screen you can swipe

j16sdiz··on git's –end-of-options Flag
The practice was there before the spec
j16sdiz··on Regressive JPEGs
I guess this is related, but I knew too little to tell: Safari can't do MJPEG in <img>.
j16sdiz··on LG monitors silently install software through Windows Update without consent
Ink reminder is annoying, but marginally relevant to printer.

I have yet to see an linkage from LG monitor to McAfee virus.

j16sdiz··on New York becomes the first state to impose a data center moratorium
We are taking about doubling or tripling the power consumption in some place in 2 or 3 years.
j16sdiz··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
Congratulation! You are a submarine!
j16sdiz··on I'm a USB-C Maximalist
> Using my USB-C cable tester, I can be sure all the cables I have can deliver the amount of power my devices need.

Wait until they discover off brand usb cable with incorrect e-marker.

j16sdiz··on Why write code in 2026
I discovered Doctorow's "Reverse centaurs are the answer to the AI paradox" via a link in this article.

It was a great read.

j16sdiz··on I love LLMs, I hate hype
Sometime a wrong and misleading README done more harm than good.

It is not that rare to see LLM waste hours on a wrong path because a misleading line in README. Even worse, they can't learn. Spawn a subagent and it repeat the same error again

j16sdiz··on Meta pulls new AI image feature after days of backlash

j16sdiz··on Using precision editing to study human embryo development shows master gene
> Base editing can precisely change a single nucleotide base pair...

Absolutely not. It _cut_ the DNA at three nine precision (not that great given the number of base pairs we have); and things sitch together at much higher error rate.

It is a great technology, but it is not as great as many claim
