Which areas? Which employment category are they cutting? Hard to tell from the message.

j15e··on Korean nuclear fusion reactor achieves 100M°C for 30 seconds
As a newbie in nuclear fusion, this explanation is the most interesting part:

> Lee Margetts at the University of Manchester, UK, says that the physics of fusion reactors is becoming well understood, but that there are technical hurdles to overcome before a working power plant can be built. Part of that will be developing methods to withdraw heat from the reactor and use it to generate electrical current.

> “It’s not physics, it’s engineering,” he says. “If you just think about this from the point of view of a gas-fired or a coal-fired power station, if you didn’t have anything to take the heat away, then the people operating it would say ‘we have to switch it off because it gets too hot and it will melt the power station’, and that’s exactly the situation here.”

Why is there no image of the sinking ship? Because at sea in war zone? Wouldn't Ukrainian army want to show image from their drone after hit? New satellite image coming soon?

Beautiful website, good content. Most horrible customer experience ever. It is almost extortion.
j15e··on Mozilla DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and Trusted Recursive Resolver (TRR) Comment Period
Cool but ISP and others can still spy on IPs you make requests to and simply ask for reverse DNS of that IP to still get a good idea of what you are doing? Not sure how we could really achieve 100% privacy from the ISPs.
j15e··on Fastest star ever seen is moving at 8% the speed of light
I think its the opposite: things are slowed down on S62 so they can’t reach speed of light. That is how you could (in theory) go in the future because earth time would go faster if you were on S62. So if you could watch it, it would be slower?

public worker in a position of authority

So it applies only to specific subsets of public roles (police, judge, etc).

It also applies to teachers, but I am not sure this was a good idea.

Switzerland has a similar law too https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/church-and-state_geneva-secular...

j15e··on Analysts argue that over-automation is to blame for Tesla problems
Optimistically, those over-the-industry-ratio of line investments in automation will be profitable after more models are introduced for the mainstream audience.

Other car makers take no risk in the short term by not investing to automate more final assembly. But 2 times more is not like 10 times more. It is very probable that Tesla will get to have lower production cost & better capacity than other car makers in just a few more years.

Yeah I know they may need more cash very soon and are way under their targeted rate, but Musk still has lot of money in the bank I think?

I always think of Tesla of a company with a more long-term vision than other car makers. I think analysts sometimes just want a lower the price so they can get more of it.

j15e··on Quebec reaches lodging tax deal with Airbnb
They just sent an email to their customers in Québec and they specify they will not share reservation and owner details to the government, only a summary per region per month.

So the is no extra power to Revenu Québec to find out you don't report all your earnings.

The fact they sent (french) :

Partagerez-vous mes informations personnelles lors du versement de la taxe ? Non. Nous remplirons une déclaration fiscale par région, qui indiquera le montant total des revenus issus de l'ensemble des réservations Airbnb effectuées dans la zone en question. Autrement dit, tous les hôtes seront représentés par un même montant, et nous ne fournirons pas vos informations personnelles sur la déclaration.

j15e··on Quebec reaches lodging tax deal with Airbnb
The most interesting thing for me will be that we be that the governement (and maybe us too) will be able to know much more precisely how much Airbnb renting is going on in the province and possibly where & when too.

j15e··on Important SSH patch coming soon
Do not manually change your server configuration if security updates are already available for your platform. Ubuntu is already providing the patch.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/1:5.9p1-5ubuntu...

*Edit : it does seems like a good idea to disable the feature on your local `ssh_config` in case you or a software you use connect to an unpatched evil server.
