j0hnM1st··on Native Secure Enclave backed SSH keys on macOS
Fundamental services like DNS, which was designed as distributed going down was the cause last 2 outages and really need to think of alternatives methods to ensure resilience. Shift left, design better.
j0hnM1st··on Stable Diffusion 2.0
It will be worthwhile to use images from commons. I have found that my photography is used in the stable diffusion data set. What was funny is that they have taken the images from other URLs than my flickr account.
j0hnM1st··on AWS and Blockchain
Blockchains normally has a database and then an API. Many of the newer chains uses Rocksdb.
j0hnM1st··on Grumpy Cat NFT sold for nearly $80K
> Token are unique and not interchangeable.

There is absolutely no way ensure uniqueness. Any transaction on the blockchains can be called as a NFT if anyone says the transaction id makes the NFT unique. There is inherently no difference between any other token or coin or transaction and an NFT until unless there is an on chain mechanism to ensure uniqueness of the METADATA associated with the NFT. AFIK there are no such implementations of the NFT which ensures the uniqueness of the METADATA.

j0hnM1st··on Grumpy Cat NFT sold for nearly $80K
> I'm not sure how NFTs work, but are they proof of work or proof of stake?

NFTs are nothing but a transaction on a blockchain (which can be proof of work or proof of stake). There will be unique transaction id (which proves nothing). The image associated and the transaction id or any data with the transaction has no relation whatsoever. For example, you can get access to this cat image and replace it with a dogs image and nothing happens.

j0hnM1st··on India coronavirus: The 'mystery' of low Covid-19 death rates
There are mistakes in the article. To begin with the first case was reported 3 months ago and to be precise on Jan 30th. While its difficult to findout the strain of the virus, the first patient was a medical student returned Wuahn.
j0hnM1st··on India coronavirus: The 'mystery' of low Covid-19 death rates
>India has been contact tracing like a greedy algorithm on steroids since case #1.

Some states like Kerala is doing active contact tracing. Also the first case was reported 3 months ago and not 2 months ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/21/kerala...

> >There are only 85 active infections

I am not sure which area the original author is talking about but less than 150 is the real active cases in some states https://dashboard.kerala.gov.in/

j0hnM1st··on Firefox Multi-Account Containers
The biggest drawback with Multi-Account containers is that they don't sync with the Firefox Sync. I have an elaborate and carefully crafted set of containers. I even have one for TheGuradian where I am allowing ads but the moment a new machine is added to the workflow all is lost.

j0hnM1st··on Indian government to intercept, monitor, and decrypt citizens’ computers
In India people call this "Mitron"

MITRON

1. A large group of unsuspecting people, about to be hit by something they will take a long time to recover from.

They did that with Blackberry few years ago

j0hnM1st··on Indian government to intercept, monitor, and decrypt citizens’ computers
It just said monitoring and collection - there is no mention of tampering private owned properties and complete invasion into privacy.

j0hnM1st··on The Cavendish banana is facing extinction
Misleading title! Looks like a push to spread GM foods as opposed to any relevant issue. As someone who cultivates banana for real, TR4 is not an issue in Asian countries like the article says.

also possible on STEEM blockchain along with Bitshares
j0hnM1st··on Stellar Smart Contracts
> There are plenty of consensus protocols that don't waste energy but I think it's important to understand why PoW relies on an unproductive algorithm.

DPoS consensus used by Bitshares/STEEM & EOS seems to the most advanced among the models and they also have the highest TPS

j0hnM1st··on Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS
contentID sort of thing is actually possible - I am actually working on a proof of concept AI bot to identify spam and plagiarism.

some basic info is here : https://steemit.com/hello/@thefreebird/init-1

j0hnM1st··on Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS
>How do they ensure original content or ownership?

This has become a big issue on the STEEM blockchain - plagirism, irrelevant junk etc.

Generally the STEEM blockchain is otherwise very fast and healthy but the content issue putting it strain from every front.

j0hnM1st··on Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS
>whale and community

The trouble with the current way "influence" or money is distributed in STEEM blockchain is that, 2 - 3 whale accounts has more influence and means to influence the entire community even if the entire community stands together.

Though I am hopeful that this will be addressed by the EOS's community project.

j0hnM1st··on Dtube – A decentralized video platform using STEEM and IPFS
the domain is not needed to access the content as the content is actually one the STEEM blockchain.

1. the content text and meta data is on the STEEM blockchain 2. Dtube is storing the videos etc on IPFS

so by reading the STEEM blockchain, we can get the content even without DTUBE.

Dtube is an app, just another one to talk to the STEEM blockchain and they make revenue by taking a small part of the revenue from the content creators.
