izacus··on EU Age Verification Project Mandates Hardware-Bound Attestation
Hardware attestation literally prevents that. That's why it's mandated.
izacus··on Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified
Lower power CPUs are very powerful nowadays. Like the one in your phone - it sips power and can do what a full server could do a decade ago.
izacus··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
Did you think for a second that maybe other people work with other languages, domains, tools and work approaches than you?

It's so bizarre that noone realizes that there's a bit of a difference between banging together JavaScript into websites, writing firmware for widgets, herding servers or fixing medical devices?

izacus··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
Yep, as a performance specialist I've had the same outcomes - it'll find "smoking guns" galore which will sound plausible and be completely wrong.

But that's ok - I still get a lot of value of the tool elsewhere (e.g. writing data analysis scripts, exploring code, breaking down bug artifacts...), but it doesn't stop the tiring BS from other people going "why not just AI it?" (especially from managers).

I usually let them try to "just AI it" and most of them learn quickly that it's not that simple. (The others stay deranged and are making my job miserable.)

izacus··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Play Store absolutely is selling apps with 18+ restrictions, so most of your post is based on false premise.
izacus··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Yes, checking the age of people when accessing and buying things (like alcohol at 21) is absolutely a Soviet Union invention.

Modern democracies like USA would never check for age of people when entering clubs or buying drugs.

Do you listen to yourself?

izacus··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
With your dictions, why the heck do you want the mob boss to be the cop deciding what you're allowed to do?
izacus··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
This is some awfully twisted logic to defend scammers and fraudsters.

Your whole chain stops being relevant if you actually persecute criminals with the same gusto as Disney jackboots anyone voilating their IP.

Instead you demand megacorps to start scanning content and censoring people.

izacus··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan
There's no such thing as an "unnecessary" review, especially from people that are familiar with topics in a given media.

People are allowed to have opinions. Yes, you too.

izacus··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan
This is the person who created one of the translations this movie is based on (arguably THE translation Nolan based it on), so they - literally as it goes - indeed have tried and done better.
izacus··on An Uncomplicated Man – A review of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan
> Were Odysseus played as written, modern audiences would have a very hard time empathizing with him. That's the real challenge to successfully adapting the Odyssey. When reading the original, you have abundant time to get into the mental space of the bronze age Achaeans. In a three hour movie that's a lot harder to do.

And this is the strongest criticism of this movie - Nolan took the easy way out of just shoving the story in 21st century America instead of doing the work of transporting us into the world of different values and beliefs. It's an easy snack for infantilised audience who isn't trusted to actually engage into something that steps out of their locally cultural space.

It's about the most damning thing about this movie.

Looks pretty though.

izacus··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
Either way works - I'd still prefer the scammers to be liable and persecuted for their scamming than demanding that platforms enact censorship and policeing control.
izacus··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
Imagine how world would be different if the actual scammers and malware creators would be prosecuted and not insteead demanded that internet giants play a privatized police force.
izacus··on The US is charging an American citizen for wiping his phone at the border
This is not true at all, adopted storage is encrypted.
izacus··on Android may soon restrict on-device ADB
Play Attestation is a Google hosted database of build keys/hashes for known Android builds. Android-side of this attestation is an API which calculates and returns those hashes to the app.

There's nothing preventing the app from verifying the build itself against its own database. So they can allowlist GrapheneOS builds if they want - but of course that means that all other ROMs are still banned.

izacus··on GrapheneOS protections against data extraction from locked devices
The easiest way to avoid suspicion is to have a phone filled with cat and family pictures, dumb apps and games.

You don't avoid scrutiny by being wierd and hiding things, but by hiding in plain sight by being ultra boring.

izacus··on GrapheneOS protections against data extraction from locked devices
Unfortunately, it'll most likely go something like this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/23/cop-city-pro...
izacus··on Tile's security is so bad it's a feature for stalkers
The encryption key is derived from your PIN, it doesn't need to access the phone to do a new derivation.
izacus··on Future euro banknote design proposals
Would actually cost more than something like having 27 translators in each major meeting?
izacus··on Teardown: The BMW / Harman IDC23H Infotainment Unit (B423)
While I didn't know it did for cars, Garmin is one of the most popular manufacturers of airplane avionics (which are basically plane "infotainment" screens), so I guess it makes sense.

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/aviation/axis/overview/

izacus··on Teardown: The BMW / Harman IDC23H Infotainment Unit (B423)
The workaround I've seen was manufacturers putting reverse cameras in rear view mirrors.

I can't find a picture right now (man, internet search sucks nowadays), but e.g. lower trims of Kia Optima had it.

izacus··on Future euro banknote design proposals
As I mentioned elsewhere, it's kinda strange they didn't learn the lesson from Euro coins and did multiple versions of each banknote to cover and represent every member state with at least one person.
izacus··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
The linked bug explains exactly how. The fact that you angrily slam downvotes when you hear something doesn't like doesn't make it "farming", just like rage and rants and bizarre accusations of conspiracy in this comment thread won't change the underlying issues that this is going to fix.
izacus··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
The users.
izacus··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
Apps being able to bypass a restriction put on them by the OS always matter.

Whether that means there's a _feature_ lacking there, is another question.

izacus··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
It would break exactly 0 apps because none of the apps should be using this API to access your private data and phone call audio.
izacus··on Android may soon restrict on-device ADB
"An app can bypass OS security system with certain setting enabled" absolutely fits into CVEs. There's no "depends: on it.

I love how quickly you all forget about security and privacy when it gives a chance to angrily rant.

izacus··on Android may soon restrict on-device ADB
The bug literally describes how they're avoiding OS security restictions by going through the debug port.

This is a CVE by any definition and you'd be screaming your head off if any other OS would allow this kind of permission bypass (or even if another app did it).

But sure, Google evil.

izacus··on Android May Soon Restrict On-Device ADB
Wait till you hear that your OEM can remotely rollout full OS updates with full access to all your data and drivers... carrying Google software and most of it Google code.
izacus··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
When you're standing at the customs office entering a country, your lawyers are far far FAR away and the people talking to you won't care about them even a little bit.

Whatever will happen with you lawyering and fighting the border officers, will happen after you've been detained.
