The point is that they are looking to create 'dropboxes' across the open web, so that you don't have to actually download stuff at your end first. So you could have a folder which you chose to NOT sync with your computer, but instead only used as a web-stuff repo in the cloud, for example. That use case doesn't exist today.
but yeah, we need more than just bk-style :)
3 chairs 3 desks (regular or standing) 3 extra monitors (all on laptops) 1 printer/scanner/photocopy all-in-one 1 large tv screen for dashboard/stats 1 whiteboard 1 full size fridge 1 couch Broadband connection + wifi router Tons of ramen/chips/soda/juices/Tea/Coffee/Tea Pot/Cookies Music Cleaning service Clean bathrooms Insurance (renters) Quiet/Do Not Disturb sign for each desk A sound policy for meetings & phone calls Quiet fans Plants
We got a 'bar fridge' to store stuff we are hoping to score from sympathetic friends/family + any deliveries. Also, planning on putting up a 'pantry budget' for everything from ramen to soda to instant_meals etc.
I certainly hope that people like myself and FredBrach can think of engaging on here without being 'laughed off'.
Love the idea and the intro. Instant User!
Tons of questions about the syncing features with different services etc.
Really interesting story and thanks for sharing! It sounds like quite a journey for him to go from a review blog to become a meaningful marketing channel. Respect!
Great work collecting it. I would do some user-tests on the landing page though. It needs a tiny bit more content and a clearer 'best path' call-to-action.
Its kinda topical what you are trying to do. If you see the Summify exit and the News.me uptake afterwards, it seems you are in a hotish space.
I would think that your landing page needs a UX/IA review. The onboarding process should be super easy in this case and instead of giving me a form to start with, you would be better off pre-loading relevant/contextual content.
Hope that makes sense.
ps - I hope you didn't mind my $0.02
Would love to get some discussion going here.
They underestimate everything apart of one thing: Themselves. They don’t get that a low burnrate and being prelaunch doesn’t mean you have more time to waste.
I started a new thread just last night for this - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3498421 - Bootstrapped Consumer Web Startup Stories? #Win and #Fail.
I am not sure how to get this conversation started, but I really would love to hear from the community on HN.
