iugtmkbdfil834··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
Interesting. The site uses term super intelligence, BUT is used to spread negative portrayal of AI tech.
iugtmkbdfil834··on What ArtCraft's Vibe-Coded Apps Say About Adobe
I wonder. My older boss was of the type that even if something wasn't 100%, his position was that 80% was better than nothing ( which offended most of our team, who had to deal with the inevitable support and fallout from his decision ).
iugtmkbdfil834··on What ArtCraft's Vibe-Coded Apps Say About Adobe
<< I'd like to see how far echelon takes it

This will be the real test. I am an amateur, who needed some sprite editing, video edits and music changes. And I didn't use artcraft ( I might now though ) -- I vibe coded my own ( which brings me to another the other part upper echelon may be slowly realizing: they are not needed ).

iugtmkbdfil834··on GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone
<< Nothing wrong with that.

There is plenty wrong as we use more and more complex machines with less and less access under the hood without crowbar or a super secret handshake. The amusing part is that it is bound to change now -- just not for the reasons I like.

iugtmkbdfil834··on GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone
Realistically, if the market caters to the lowest common denominator, then we either need to adjust that denominator ( unlikely -- people don't really change ), adjust the market ( hard, but not impossible ) or adjust ourselves ( easiest, but possibly not useful for things other than putting along ).

I am not exactly the person to normally to argue along the lines of 'build your own ISP/network/platform/model/we', but it will still be easier than fighting against collective nature of society.

What is absolutely crazy to me is that llms allow an insane way to accumulate knowledge and maybe even some skills - though ai doomers/boosters will argue over what that actually means -- and people's apparent response is:

can you make me think even less?

iugtmkbdfil834··on What Meta got right with Muse
You do have a point, and I sometimes clamp down on random meta complaints myself, but mostly because there are enough of real complaints to worry about. In other words, your comment in useful in providing appropriate balance. I don't like meta. That much is evident, but there is no reason to make argument against them less potent by not considering how it lands.
iugtmkbdfil834··on Anthropic Subscriptions Offer 5x+ More Value Than OpenAI
Yes, but we are getting close to the point where the difference exists, but it is less and less significant. Tbh, Qweb27b is perfectly find for a lot of tasks; anecdotally, the difference lies less and less in quality of responses, but in speed. Local models have a hard time there for a reason ( the cheapest stuff you can get now is stuff like previously mentioned 128gb ryzen ai ).

So trade-offs are there, but do those matter to all people the same way ( are they not equal in the same way to everyone )?

iugtmkbdfil834··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Or 'public/private information sharing' partnership ( hello Canadia ^^/ )
iugtmkbdfil834··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Sorry mate. The one thing llms effectively guaranteed is that short of wonks like me, no one is actually reading the source. Everything is a summary of summary of a summary.

FWIW, I feel you; I too try to leave internet a mildly more amusing place to be.

iugtmkbdfil834··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
It is funny that you mention that, because at home I do/hear/watch all sorts of things, so I suspect transcripts look fun and may make management feel a little icky ( makes me wonder ). Honestly, one would think it is a reasonable position that they would not want to know too much:D
iugtmkbdfil834··on What Meta got right with Muse
<< you shouldn't point to non-evidence, interpret it through the lens of your prior beliefs, and then claim that it's actually evidence supporting your beliefs

Not parent, but it is worth responding to as it applies. Not prior beliefs. From prior actions. Unless you are only now becoming aware of the existing ecosystem, there is almost no way in which you can buy into that ecosystem without expecting hard rug pull. And the beauty is, everyone gets to make a choice, but they best do it is with eyes wide open and the understanding of the deal for it will be changing soon.

iugtmkbdfil834··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
:D Please rewrite the current foundation for how programmers across the world cooperate. Should be easy.
iugtmkbdfil834··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
Yeah, but at the same time compensation is meager enough that they won't get as much of a response. I am only kinda considering it and that is mostly, but the more I am reading through the details the more of a turn off the whole thing is.
iugtmkbdfil834··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
Well, kinda, but usually the compute is given away as part of the hackaton. Even AWS hackaton did expect you to buy AWS credits..
iugtmkbdfil834··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
Same, but the real question is how. At this point, the things they are proposing are genuinely useful for the environment that we are finding ourselves in? How does one even begin to allow for less dependency here without appropriate substitute/mitigation for what cloudflare renders relatively painless.
iugtmkbdfil834··on Pop!_OS bans AI-generated code from much of its codebase
<< Probably because pop_os and Cosmic are so niche and their market share so low, that they're irrelevant to attackers and bad actors, when those now have much bigger fish to fry.

That is such a weird statement that I am not entirely certain where to begin. PopOS is hardly niche. Its base are all fairly common components by linux standards. And, more importantly, attackers and bad actors may other considerations in mind than sheer population size -- just to point out the glaringly obvious.

<< I think even amongst the HN and Linux userbase, pop_os is still niche

I think rather than trying to disprove it, I think I should ask why you think that? If anything, PopOS annoys me because it is just a step before ubuntu ( and ubuntu is just windows at this point ). Maybe I am defensive, because my first real distribution ( that did not share disk with windows was popos )?

iugtmkbdfil834··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
Agreed. This whole 'lets not forget this person is not 100% great, because they did X' makes the entire conversations suck. It is not new, but it is a particularly aggravating way to talk to people.
iugtmkbdfil834··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
This is a decent argument. So the question becomes: do we want all models to suffer from the same kneecapping from the growing safety cottage industry or do we want individual founders ( and I am assuming their teams ) making the actual decisions?
iugtmkbdfil834··on Extra Big Ass Intelligence
This. The society is still trying to manage its inhabitants by providing what they crave. It is not clear our current trajectory supports that particular landing zone.
iugtmkbdfil834··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
You see.. this is exactly why our great leader chose to form a new way forward to move us away from the undefined AGI into glorious SI!
iugtmkbdfil834··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
There are people, who unironically think their way of looking at things is the only proper way and can consider no deviation. And AGI, which knowing how people work, would effectively guide them most of the way, not aligning to their way of thinking is an unacceptable deviation.
iugtmkbdfil834··on Clef: Open-weight decision models, and new RL fine-tuning platform
https://www.adom.de/home/index.html

Sorry, sometimes I forget not everyone is me;p

Hmm,where do you think jev could fit?

iugtmkbdfil834··on Show HN: Hntui – A TUI for Hacker News
Hmm? I wasn't saying it is a novel idea. I was specifically asking parents about what they envision.
iugtmkbdfil834··on Clef: Open-weight decision models, and new RL fine-tuning platform
I am playing with it now trying to make it play adom ( mostly to avoid issues with timing; using local variants so speed is a consideration ). By itself, it plays in ways you can likely imagine.. not well. Adding big Qwen on top for strategic decisions helps, but makes it fail in unexpected ways. Will be adding smaller non-qwen in the middle. WIP so actual details are changing fast.
iugtmkbdfil834··on Show HN: Hntui – A TUI for Hacker News
Hmm, it is cool, but I feel obligated to ask why. Does it portend the future where we mostly interact with website through designated intermediaries that are not generic web browsers. I am not messing with you. I am curious what you envision.
iugtmkbdfil834··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
Fair. FWIW, I am not completely against some of the things you say ( you are doing something right ), but I think I mostly picked my path already. GL out there man.
iugtmkbdfil834··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
I guess 'legitimate and useful' is in the eye of the beholder. I want to be charitable so lets consider it at face value:

What is useful about the field?

I am not leading you on; if it has uses, it may indeed be legitimate. UX is indeed useful, but alignment is not UI. Alignment is a detriment to UI. Alignment is "I can't let you do that Dave".

iugtmkbdfil834··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
You may want to define 'put head in the sand in this context'. Any real work in this field is being done not by the people saying 'stop'. Whatever fear is there, it is faced by those in the arena actually getting their hands dirty. What, exactly, are you doing? Throwing roadblocks and calling it productive?
iugtmkbdfil834··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
<< "Bot" doesn't carry any implication of unintended behavior.

See.. this one sentence reveals everything about you. You want name to carry to not just an identifier, but a stark warning. You want, nay, need, the name to evoke fear and uncertainty. Bot is simple, defined, neutral, but rogue.. now that allows anyone to superimpose their own fears! It is a win win win!

iugtmkbdfil834··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
AI misalignment is a misnomer. Aligned to whom? If AI is refusing an ask from its instructor then it is not serving him, which is its entire purpose. I know it is a hard concept for some to understand, but maybe if the issue is humans, then humans need to be corrected. But human alignment does not produce cottage industry, bs papers or hand wringing over every non-story involving AI and thus not seriously pursued.
