itslennysfault··on Caniwebview.com – Like Caniuse but for Webviews
Cool idea. Seems a little lacking. All of the following resolve on caniuse, but return nothing on this: quic, http3, webrtc, nesting (css), :not

edit... I see this page seems to include everything that is supported ( https://caniwebview.com/features/ ). Looks like a total of 7 pages. Hope to see this page evolve over time.

itslennysfault··on How to Use JSON Path
AAH-HA... That's why this felt familiar to me. I haven't used K8 in over a year now, but I used this all the time at my previous job. Didn't know it was "JSON Path" just knew it as something I used in kubectl often.
itslennysfault··on A Single Div
The HTML is just a div per "artwork" the css is the only interesting part. Much better to just: Right click, inspect element. To see the magic behind each piece.
itslennysfault··on AI Photo Geolocation
I've been learning deep learning, and I built a very toy version of this recently. It's really just a classifier that can (maybe) tell you if a photo was taken in one of the 5 cities I trained it on.

itslennysfault··on Dune 3D 1.1.0 Released
Thank you. I clicked the link (expecting it to be related to the movies) and couldn't figure out what I was looking at based on the linked page.
itslennysfault··on Cheating Site Ashley Madison Is Overflowing with Sextortionists
Anyone who sends them money is a fool and a coward. You made your bed, lie in it. Paying them won't make it go away. If this happens it is time to come clean with your spouse and tell the extortionist to piss off.
itslennysfault··on 30% of Children Ages 5-7 Are on TikTok
I'd be worried about the opposite effect. The sheltered kids were always the ones to party the hardest when they got to college and had their first glimpse of freedom. I'm sure there is a happy balance somewhere, but finding it is certainly the trick.
itslennysfault··on California Senate bill to crush OpenAI competitors fast tracked for a vote
Anybody got any additional context on this? The headline / tiny screenshot really leaves a lot to be desired. What is the bill? what does it do? how does this benefit OpenAI? Does it also benefit other "big players" (Meta, xAI, etc)?
itslennysfault··on Phreaking
Worth adding that pulse dialing is how rotary phones worked. When you released the dial it flicked the hang up button each time a number passed it.
itslennysfault··on The Stainless SDK Generator
Very helpful. Thanks for the details.
itslennysfault··on Why does Windows use backslash as path separator? (2019)
As a long time *nix user who briefly worked at Microsoft (and therefore on Windows), I was very happy to learn that Powershell is perfectly happy with forward slashes in paths. If you tab-complete it switches them to backslashes (which is "fine"), but you can type commands using forward slashes without issue. Also common linux commands (ls, cd, mv, cp) all work in Powershell. It really makes the transition painless.
itslennysfault··on The Stainless SDK Generator
That one only does Go, but it is just one of many OpenAPI generators. I used openapi-generator and was able to produce SDKs for TypeScript (angular and node), Dart (Flutter), Kotlin (andoird), and Swift (iOS). They worked great for our purposes and I really had no complaints or issues.

I guess my question is, what is the key differentiator that Stainless offers above just using OpenAPI and its huge library of existing generators?

https://github.com/OpenAPITools/openapi-generator

itslennysfault··on The Stainless SDK Generator
Thats what I used at my previous startup and had a lot of luck with it. Our backend used NestJS which allowed us to define APIs and DTOs using decorators which automatically generated OpenAPI json files. Then our clients would load the json and generate their own SDK as a library. It worked extremely well. It worked so well that I don't really understand what problem Stainless is solving. We didn't ship public SDKs. So, maybe that's what I'm missing, but for our internal clients OpenAPI generators worked great. We generated SDKs on the fly for TypeScript (Node services and Angular clients), Dart (flutter), Kotlin (android), and Swift (iOS). For the most part it all "just worked" for our use case.
itslennysfault··on Reddit is taking over Google
Whats really odd is I've noticed the exact opposite. I used to always get Reddit results on the first page for any random search I did, and the past year-ish I've found myself needing to add `site:reddit.com` to searches if I want to see Reddit results more and more often. I pretty much never see Reddit results without it.
itslennysfault··on An electric new era for Atlas
I did read it. I'm trying to say they are not dumb, and no one is giving up on this form factor.
itslennysfault··on I can't use my number pad for 2FA codes
In my experience, these decisions are usually made by product or design people.

The one that annoys me most is whenever someone needs to enter a code with a fixed length. Like a 6 digit OTP code. They want to have a UI with 6 separate input fields: _ _ _ _ _ _ that behaves like one input and only allows the correct values and has the cursor behave correctly jumping from one box to the next as you type / backspace. Turns out, creating that UI element is kinda time consuming and adds NOTHING and at best results in the same user experience as just tossing in an HTML input element, and more often than not results in some non-standard behavior that breaks something (auto-fill, paste, arrow key, accessibility, etc, etc). Just use a standard input, throw some css on it to make it the characters big if you want.

itslennysfault··on An electric new era for Atlas
That's kinda a weird conclusion to reach. They discontinued this (old, hydraulic) humanoid robot to focus on their new (fully electric) humanoid robot.

itslennysfault··on Timeline of the xz open source attack
I wondered about this. I saw the note at the bottom "RedHat announces that the backdoored xz shipped in Fedora Rawhide and Fedora Linux 40 beta" but saw nothing in the timeline explaining when/how it made it into Fedora.
itslennysfault··on Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison
A friend of mine got roughly half this sentence (12 years) for possession of cocaine with intent to sell. To be fair, was a large amount of cocaine and she 100% intended to sell it. However, she lost 10 years of her life (after good behavior) for being in possession of a < $1m worth of a regulated substance. Not sure how that fits on the spectrum against stealing $8b, but it all seems pretty disproportionate to me.
itslennysfault··on Amazon fined in Poland for dark pattern design tricks
No, just tested it out (in the US). I honestly had no idea there was a web client at all because of the pattern OP is talking about.

When I clicked the zoom link it opens a browser window and pops up a system dialog to launch the zoom app. After I hit "cancel" on that dialog I was on a page with a large "Launch Meeting" button (and no link to use the web version). Then, I clicked the "Launch Meeting" button and it opened the same system dialog again. Then, after I clicked cancel on that dialog a small link appeared at the bottom that says: "Having issues with Zoom Client? Join from Your Browser"

itslennysfault··on Building Meta's GenAI infrastructure
Neither did AWS when they started. They were just building out data centers to run their little book website and decided to start selling the excess capacity. Meta could absolutely do the same, but in the short term, I think they find using that capacity more valuable than selling it.
itslennysfault··on JSR: The JavaScript Registry
No, you're right. The White House says no more C/C++ it's your civic duty.
itslennysfault··on JSR: The JavaScript Registry
and the name... I suggested TSR (the TypeScript Registry)
itslennysfault··on Heinz’s sustainable ketchup cap
All this work and plastic recycling still is a horrible and toxic practice.

Here is an innovation Heinz can work on... go back to glass bottles.

itslennysfault··on Behind Apple's Doomed Car Project: False Starts and Wrong Turns
With no training, actually. Anyone can "figure out" how to drive a car. Me and a friend started stealing his mom's car and joy riding at night at 13. No one taught us how to drive.

Thankfully, shockingly, no one got hurt and we never got caught.

itslennysfault··on Behind Apple's Doomed Car Project: False Starts and Wrong Turns
Siri can't even get basic tasks right, and they want me to trust it to drive my car? ....nah.
itslennysfault··on Boeing ousts 737 MAX chief
Exactly what I was thinking (but much less cleverly worded). We KNOW these issues are the result of pressure from the top to maximize profit despite pushback from engineers.
itslennysfault··on How much is one terabyte of data?
Interesting read, but it could REALLY use some visualization to drive the point home.
itslennysfault··on AI Is Starting to Threaten White-Collar Jobs
True. That is a job that could easily be done better by a computer. On the other hand, if you mostly eliminate human workers in general that job becomes much easier.
itslennysfault··on A walk through Chicago Pedway (2017)
Montreal has one: https://www.mtl.org/en/experience/guide-underground-city-sho...

I grew up in Chicago and lived in Montreal for a while. Theirs is WAAY better than Chicago's.
