itamarwe··on Ask HN: BigQuery vs. Redshift vs. Athena vs. Snowflake
All of the above data warehouses have good support. You can use almost any popular BI tool with all of them. All of the above have ODBC/JDBC drivers that BI tools can use. And since these are the most popular data warehouses out there, most BI tools implement their connectors.
itamarwe··on Show HN: Live visualization of Kafka streams
Kudos to Itay Niv for the amazing design, Stav Mizrahi (@stavmaz) for the implementation! And @ronihcohen for the inspiration!

That's actually a challenge that we tried to overcome - being able to get the big picture on the one hand, while still being able to catch and filter a single event.

I love the software engineering daily podcast...
itamarwe··on Ask HN: What's the equivalent to a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in tech?
But it doesn't seem like 3 starred restaurants create "busy work" or documents, and yet, they highly value craftsmanship, quality, creativity.

What's the equivalent of that?

itamarwe··on Ask HN: What's the equivalent to a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in tech?
Any concrete examples for such a boutique consulting company?

Can't a product company have these characteristics?

itamarwe··on Ask HN: What's the equivalent to a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in tech?
I wasn't talking about the awards specifically, but rather about the state of mind. And I'm sure working in such a restaurant is not for everyone. But it's nice to see people who actually enjoy the challenge.

Are there companies that take quality, perfectionism, innovation, workmanship to that level in the tech industry? And do they succeed more than other companies?

Do you really need a blockchain? A certificate chain from the root certificate of the primary device to any secondary device should be enough.
itamarwe··on What we learned from building custom analytics over Amazon Redshift
Makes integration a breeze :)
itamarwe··on What we learned from building custom analytics over Amazon Redshift
What data warehouse to choose, what are the different visualization tools available, what events to send, how to setup Redshift, how to choose the keys for the tables, and yes, how to recreate popular dashboards with simple SQL queries.

Of course, we also have more complex queries for analysis, that we will share at a future post.

We'll soon have an integration with Segment too. In fact, you can already use webhooks to send your Segment data to Alooma.

What kind of solution would you suggest? What is missing?

Thanks!
itamarwe··on What we learned from building custom analytics over Amazon Redshift
Yes, exactly. You'll push events from Alooma's Android SDK and they'll land in your Redshift in seconds. You can have a look at the documentation here: https://www.alooma.com/docs/integration/android-sdk

itamarwe··on The daily stand-up is an anti-pattern
I don't think that's an anti-pattern. You'll be surprised how difficult it is to keep everyone focused on the goals of the sprint, or even to make sure they are working on the tasks of the sprint. I've seen teams that fail to stay focused even with daily standup meetings AND a huge scrum board.
