it_learnses··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2014)
I've been getting in to Clojure lately as a hobby and I'd love to work with you and see how you evolve your application, but alas I'm pursuing my masters currently :(

Can you please do some write-ups as you go along of how you're building your application with the above stack, what tools you're using, challenges, etc?

edit: also where do you see yourself going in light of web components?

it_learnses··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
stop marginalizing this issue by calling it a "political stance." Hitler's "political stance" was to get rid of jews. Political stances affect real lives. Get your head out of your ass.
it_learnses··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
How are they not treating Brendan Eich equally? He's the bigot here who wants to deny them happiness, not the other way around.
it_learnses··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
this is not a personal matter. It's a public issue. For example, there are plenty of Arab businesses that boycott Israel and their products. Are they mixing work and personal issue?
it_learnses··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
what's unprofessional about this stance? They're standing up for their values. Why should we separate different aspects of our lives? We're not machines, we're human beings. I say, I'd love to do business with them because they stand up for their values rather than bow to greed and fear not getting some unknown moroccan's business.
it_learnses··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
It's not just them or their puzzle game. It's not just gay people either. It's everybody who wants everyone to be treated equally and not be denied their humanity. The CEO's values fly in the face of Mozilla's values. That's why he should be shown the exit door.
it_learnses··on Ask HN: Do web app yourself – is it relevant?
why not just create a web lisp-interpreter?

I sense deep irony in this comment...

once I link to my github, why do I need to select a username, password and email to enlist?
it_learnses··on Show HN: Codewars
github sign in doesn't actually seem to sign me in.
it_learnses··on Why I love the Microsoft BizSpark Programme
I smell an amazon fan boy hatin on other services. Did you even read his article? You don't have to use microsoft products on Azure. Get that weak shit outta here, son.
it_learnses··on Show HN: An Open-Source Data Science Curriculum
thanks. this is a good resource :) I've explored most of these courses on Coursera over the last year before finally deciding to go to grad school. For me, the biggest factor was motivation (in terms of actually doing the assignments and projects), networking, and getting internship opportunities. However, I still am using the coursera lectures as a supplement to my courses and it helps a lot.

Regardless of any path you take, these are very exciting times to be in computing sciences. All the best to everyone and keep upgrading your skills and knowledge :)

it_learnses··on 2x 40 min of train everyday. Best way to spend them?
i'm also going to be commuting about 40 min by bus. I get motion sickenss if I read or look at a screen on the bus, so some podcasts would be very helpful!
it_learnses··on Ask HN: Do you know anyone who left the tech world and found happiness?
why don't you get a 40 hour job elsewhere for now? that'll give you enough time on the side to learn web dev and then maybe in 6 months you can start applying to junior web dev positions? Or how about a junior QA job somewhere? move up into development later on?

it_learnses··on The Hacker News Generation (Afraid of Hard Work)
I see the author's points, but I mostly agree with you. There are people who actually like doing tedious and boring things or maybe they don't have a choice. I'd do tedious and boring stuff if I didn't have a choice. But as a software developer right now, I do have a lot of choices. So why should I not leave the current work place which isn't making use of even 20% of my skillset for something that is more challenging?

sorry if this sounds stupid, but are all the effects done using only CSS?
it_learnses··on Is going back for a Masters degree worth it?
I think all your three points apply to me. I'm wanting to focus on AI because I find it very exciting. I've done some basic intro courses online related to it on Coursera but now I would like to really get into it. So I think pursuing a Masters would be a good start.
