isxek··on The joy of text – the fall and rise of interactive fiction
It is, and the fact that it's told in a medium like interactive fiction adds much to its greatness.
isxek··on Farewell CoffeeScript
Ever heard of Opal (http://opalrb.org/)?
isxek··on Show HN: rmarkdown, awesome editor for awesome markdown
Never mind. My adblocker was blocking the JS doing the conversion.
isxek··on Show HN: rmarkdown, awesome editor for awesome markdown
Was something supposed to happen after typing in some text in Markdown? I don't see the text changing at all.
isxek··on Poll: Do you use an ad-blocker?

isxek··on Software Developer Careers Considered Harmful
Consider using a service like Pocket (https://getpocket.com/) for reading. I've never tried it on articles with embedded code snippets (gists, etc.) but it works fine with most plain-text articles posted on HN.
isxek··on Ask HN: What programming font do you use?
> Proggy Tiny for the input console

I would humbly suggest trying either MonteCarlo [1] or its derivative, Tamsyn [2]. Certain characters (like the "@" symbol) look much better in either of these fonts.

isxek··on Why Git sucks?
Mercurial was created around the same time as Git was (April 2005), and both projects were announced in the Linux kernel mailing list.

You're probably referring to Bitkeeper, which did exist (and was available commercially) before these new VCS's.

isxek··on Why Git sucks?
> SCM is a matter of choice; there is no right or wrong answer

That really sums it up. The right answer comes from seeing what you need and using whatever tool fits the job.

isxek··on Whiteboard- Focus on what matters most in your day
"all your devices" ... eventually.
isxek··on Jazz and Rain
Or SimplyRain? http://rain.simplynoise.com/
isxek··on Interview: Damian Conway
One of Damian's pictures in the article holds a quote where he says something about Rails enabling "not very strong" developers to build fairly sophisticated systems.

I wish the author had included that part of the interview. I never found it anywhere in the article.

isxek··on Hackers have gained access to Domino’s Pizza customer details
The old one was sillier and funnier, though.
isxek··on Show HN: A text adventure for developers
I had originally submitted this a few days ago (see: http://imgur.com/uCRZuU4), after learning about it from a game-related site (http://www.gnomeslair.com/2014/06/avaus-text-adventure-so-yo...). Never made it to the front page at all. I'm glad it did, eventually.

Should I stick a "Show HN" the next time I find something? I'm hesitant to do so since I wasn't the one who wrote it.

isxek··on Ask HN: Where did all the Product Managers go?
Ha. When I saw this on the RSS feed, I thought you meant "where did all the good product managers go?"
isxek··on This Link Will Self Destruct
The submitted link probably needs to be https://tlwsd.in/.

When you click on the "About" page, though, it kicks me right back into http://tlwsd.info.

isxek··on TrueCrypt must not die
Yeah, this comment appears to be spot on as well:

isxek··on Show HN: Luculent, a new code/terminal font
Dina was great during the Windows XP days when ClearType wasn't the default screen setting. On Windows 7, where ClearType is already set, it doesn't look as good as it did before. (This is just my perception, of course.)
isxek··on The Best Programming Language (or How to Stop Worrying and Love the Code)
No mention of Lua? I guess the author hasn't tried it yet, either. (I haven't, but I was curious about his opinion on the language.)
isxek··on The Best Programming Language (or How to Stop Worrying and Love the Code)
Yup, it was F#.
isxek··on A brief history of one line fixes
The __future__ may not be far off: Python with Braces (http://www.pythonb.org/).
isxek··on 'git lg' instead of the default 'git log'

isxek··on Drp.io: Fast and easy images hosting
No way to delete uploaded images?
isxek··on Git – A simple guide
"gitk" is only part of the story. You'll see the branches and the commit contents, but you still need to run "git gui" to do the actual commit, reset changes, push.
isxek··on Why is Git better than Subversion?
In Linus Torvalds' talk on git at google[0], he mentions that the reason why he did not choose SVN (one of the reasons why he saw no other way but to build GIT) was that SVNs mission statement read "To create a compelling replacement for CVS"... which Linus hated with a passion and thus could not see why he would even use "a compelling replacement" of.

Having experienced the workflow they learned from using another DVCS (Bitkeeper) probably also influenced his decision at the time.

isxek··on Why the Heck is Git so Hard?
If nothing else, you can at least see what a Google talk with Linus making more light-hearted remarks looks like, compared to the LKML-related posts discussed months ago.
isxek··on KeePass: OpenSource Password Manager
One difference I immediately see is 2.x doesn't use lock files. If you sync password DB's using Dropbox, all you need to do is relaunch the software to open the updated DB.

I use 1.x mostly as a backup.

isxek··on Mercurial 2.9 released
I was supposed to try this out after SCM Manager, but our IT admin has not replaced the server I was using after it broke. If I ever get access to one again, I'll try it.
isxek··on Mercurial 2.9 released
AFAIK, this does not work with Git in Windows. I will try it at home where I have Lubuntu and see. (If it works, I'll make an alias for it.) Thanks.
