As for systemd, podman is amazing https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/red_hat_enterprise_...
I am documenting myself as much as I can to be able to publish to flatpak hub, but there is a lot to get to do it properly.
Author note - Most of you guys here are power users, for whom UI is a visual poem that you need or not. This is not a commercial project, it is not following any business goals. But this does not mean concessions to quality, it does try to offer minimal resource usage everywhere, easy experience, good UI/UX.
It explains all it does behind the scenes if you enable the developer console. It can help one learn so at a certain moment one understands and automates with scripts and specs.
But everyone these days is either seen as too smart or too dumb, I don't consider users like this. I know everyone started somewhere and a gradual learning experience is the best.
I broke so many radios and toys when I was a kid and I learned so much, by looking at what was is inside.
It is a project done by one dude, after work and when it rains outside (In Belgium it rains a lot).
The maintainers are absolutely awesome guys, the helpful and kind type.
- First binary for Windows, all due to amazing work of podman team
- https://github.com/containers/podman/releases/tag/v4.0.3
- First test flatpak image
- Binaries for ARM
- On Linux, easily switching between native podman and podman machine based setups
- Easily identify where settings are stored
- Debug panel and log level control to know everything that is happening
- Optimization of settings screen
- Toggle for automatically starting the podman service
Containerfile vs Dockerfile - Infra as code
podman vs docker - https://podman.io
podman desktop companion (author here) vs docker desktop ui - https://iongion.github.io/podman-desktop-companion
podman-compose vs docker-compose = there should be no vs here, docker-compose itself can use podman socket for connection OOB as APIs are compatible, but an alternative worth exploring nevertheless.
Things are improving at a very fast pace, the aim is to go way beyond parity, give it a chance, you might enjoy it. There is continuous active work that is enabling real choice and choice is always good, pushing everyone up.
This is nowhere to be found in the hooks approach, without using flags and other strange constructs.
Where is it gone ?
It looks more like Adobe/Macromedia Flash as IDE, used to like that very much back in the days, till flash died due to plugin need / proprietary / security.
Would still prefer to ship an app in a single file, that progressively streams, just as SWF used to do. Now, in the web area, all is utter crap, one billion files to download, CDNs, fallbacks, signatures.... argh!
Heck, would choose VB or Delphi as IDE for building apps in no time against all this React / Angular / WebComponents tech salad with no substance and ephemeral lifespan.
I am still able to compile pascal code from 1997 in Lazarus / FPC.
Using gstreamer, creating gstreamer custom filters, performing graph changes on the fly. Awesome and a joy.
WebAssembly as target(compiling C stuff with emscripten and then enjoying it in the browser).
Playing Stracraft II, high impact of rapid decisions, dealing with complexity as some kind of reflex. Started one year ago, never waste more than 15-20 minutes. I am more focused at work, keeping myself in the zone for longer periods.
Not necessary tech, but being more tolerant towards people in industry not driven by passion, but by salary and day to day life chores.
But this does not mean that it is not to be appreciated, they did an awesome job. Maybe one day things will be solved, maybe you will be able to start native windows apps from UOW, maybe even Docker will be supported, maybe permissions will be cleverly emulated ... the work they did so far clearly focuses on getting things running, the QA period will be there soon too.
- you still need to change PYTHON_PATH to recognize libs from `libs`
- packages have bin scripts sometimes that most likely, will be needed by the project
A more proper command:
- pip install -t ./libs --install-option="--install-scripts=./bin"But still, does not solve the PYTHON PATH issue, it won't be solvable because all python cli tools and all scripts in ./bin must be aware of PYTHON_PATH including ./libs
This is what venv does and pip alone cannot easily solve, replicating an entire python environment that is aware of project local pip packages
As this is not cross platform and it would be nice to switch between Linux/Windows while coding to maintain platform compatibility, can the virtualenv envs be created with a os platform & subsystem prefix ? for example, having multiple envs at once:
- env/posix/bin/activate
- env/nt/Scripts/activate.batNow, I've done it all and nothing seem to help:
- tried medicine(benzodiazepam family, ugly stuff, addictive, stopped after just 1 week, fuck the doctor that prescribed this)
- tried removing everything with a lot of caffeine, everything in the vegetable world has it, impossible to eliminate, but no more: coffee, tea, sugary drinks
- adapter water drinking to maximum needed
- running 15 minutes HIIT style(4 minutes at 12.5 km/h, 1 minute 16 km/h, repeat)
- weightlifting for the rest 45 minutes - every day session
- meditation (stoping the mind, have a single thought, mandalas, matras, yantras ...)
- no lcd, led light before 23:00, no more tv before bed
- went back to the doctor, best clinic for this in Europe... got prescribed mirtazapine, anti-depresant, helps but the side effects are weired and dehumanizing(taking 1/4 of 30 mg pill, far below the reference amount that they say it has any effect)
- sleep settled to 5 h / d, not bad, but not perfect
- mirtazapine gave me a very long face in the morning, looking destroyed, feeling rested and calm, but face dropped, looking like droopy dog
- went back to doctor, started CBT, bought books on CBT, personal opinion: pile of crap(and I was very opened to them)
- f**k the doctor again(I trust doctors, not this one), he asked me money and go to have treatment at home, told me I am normal, not like the people in the waiting room
- tried melantonin, calming teas, etc etc, bullshit, money wates
- made a girlfriend, sex helps, but when you have it until 03:00 AM due to "crazy" girlfriend, prefer the pills
- broke up, back to 5 h sleep
- back to doctor
- recommended me THC, a liquid version, helped a bit but too expensive
- started smoking weed, cheaper, fuck lungs, need to sleep
- helped a lot for the first months until I became addicted without noticing(addiction is not easy to describe, that is why everybody seems to share a different opinion, bullshit, you become addicted of smoking to be normal, not for the high)
- had to unlearn the weed, waves of heat and cold and sleepless nights followed, catastrophic, need my freedom back, even with 4-5 h of sleep, don't want to depend on anything foreign of my body
- went back home, slept like a rock for the first days, next days awful, unstoppable mind
- back to computer programming until I get tired
- back to reading books until I collapse into sleep
- I collapse but then I wake up at 03:00 am if I start sleeping at 01:00
- change bed place/orientation(mythology of European people), helped a bit, but don't know if it is real or wishful thinking
Effects(personal) of lack of sleep over cognition: - my mind still solves complex problems(I am a programmer), but the speed lacks to be desired
- entering the zone is almost impossible
- my hands feel like they have 3 tons when I lift them from desk
- I still love what I am doing
- If I find a challenge that is impossible to solve in one day work I get a bad mood
- bad mood gets solved upon second day
Even with all these, I still love life at maximum, would want to achieve and do more, but not whatever the costs, not becoming addicted of foreign stuff!Guys, be grateful for your lives and go out and speak with people, one day this magic substance might be found, but I am more convinced that it will come from machine/human merger that from substances. Good or bad, that is the most likely future.
The usual opinion is that they all got rich with state contracts building stupid and expensive things that young kids would do in no time for nothing.
As a government agency, of course one would not prefer to hire kids, but these countries, they have good IT persons, they have universities that are struggling with funds and finance(as education is for free there and state universities are way beyond the private factories of diplomas that are known as private universities).
Instead of throwing that money, they could have helped education and develop infrastructure in the same time. Nobody has bloody consciousness any more!
Enjoy life!
