isthisfoss··on How to Firefox
Just use librewolf and be done with it. 99% of sites work and the 1% that don’t I have ungoogled chromium for.
isthisfoss··on Shenmue (1999) reverse engineering reveals possible sun position oversight
I really hate this analogy. Yes it's also published by Sega but the director, development team, and gameplay elements are quite different. Shenmue to me was mainly about NPC interaction and open-world exploration whereas Yakuza is just a straight brawler re-intepreting classic Yakuza tropes.

The move from Shenmue I to Shenmue II almost makes me think that was the direction Yu Suzuki was heading but never really ended up there. Have not played Shenmue III yet so I could be wrong.

isthisfoss··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
Why is this a bad thing if their job is to audit budget and spending? The article also does not go into technical details on what this supposed god mode actually is.
isthisfoss··on Linux Air Combat: free, lightweight and open-source combat flight simulator
There should be a prosumer game in the simracing genre. I don’t want to worry about refueling and tyre replacement, I just want to drive as realistically as a car can in a game. BeamNG is as close as we’re getting but it’s still quite slow and janky
isthisfoss··on TikTok pushing Chinese propaganda to millions of users in Europe: analysis
“It’s OK when we do it!” -US Govt. re: TikTok spying and propagandizing American citizens.
isthisfoss··on TikTok pushing Chinese propaganda to millions of users in Europe: analysis
Well that’s the latest. Among CRT, DEI, and all the other acronyms of course.
isthisfoss··on TikTok pushing Chinese propaganda to millions of users in Europe: analysis
What’s American propaganda? Supporting Ukraine?
isthisfoss··on TikTok is the most popular news source for 12 to 15-year-olds
And?
isthisfoss··on What Happened to Dolphin on Steam?
Some people like the convenience of a single application that saves your settings and backs your saves up to the cloud instead of many different ones you have to micromanage, especially across different machines
isthisfoss··on COSMIC DE: Desktop environment created for Pop!_OS and other Linux distros
It really is the worst name. 76OS is much more mature
isthisfoss··on COSMIC DE: Desktop environment created for Pop!_OS and other Linux distros
Is there any legitimate reason for this? I also find it generally unresponsive and it lags hard inbetween searches and clicks. I mean I always update from terminal but for how they’re trying to develop the desktop experience I don’t get why it takes up so many resources despite being sluggish
isthisfoss··on COSMIC DE: Desktop environment created for Pop!_OS and other Linux distros
They’ve been talking about this for years I feel like. Are they committed to releasing it any time soon? The last Pop update was well over a year ago. Are they moving to a rolling distribution model once cosmic is completed? I recall System76 saying they’d do annual releases but again they haven’t delivered on that
isthisfoss··on How San Francisco’s Open-Air Drug Dealers Work
It’s not a money issue. These cities have all the money they can into reducing “homelessness” aka open air drug markets. It’s a policy issue. Get these guys off the street and tell them to get clean.
isthisfoss··on Jellyfin: Free software media system
I hate that jellyfin does not sort films by categories like director or production company while plex does. Seems to be much more barebones than the alternatives
isthisfoss··on Things You Can Do with KDE Connect on Linux
Does GNOME have a similar feature? I am not a big fan of how busy KDE is.
isthisfoss··on Colorado kills law that made it harder for cities to offer Internet service
Culturally Colorado has been a haven for individualism and is the birthplace of the Libertarian party. Lots of do it yourselfers from the history of mining and cowboy heritage. It has always been a true purple state due to Denver being progressive and Colorado Springs being conservative.

But now with every Californian moving here because it’s cheaper, costs have gotten out of control and they are already voting for the very same policies that ruined the state they fled. It’s not “cool” at all.

isthisfoss··on Colorado kills law that made it harder for cities to offer Internet service
Starry gave me a discount for 100/100 @ 30/mo after I asked them if they had anything less than their 200/200 @ 50/mo. They are bankrupt now though
isthisfoss··on Official Ubuntu flavors must stop including Flatpak by default
Why use it? Probably no reason if you’re happy on debian. It’s just a solid distro and as other have said the best out-of-the-box desktop experience out there IMO. Definitely not going to win over any KDE fans but their tuned GNOME DE is really slick, and it’s only gonna get better when they release their own DE “COSMIC”.

I’ve been dailying Pop on all my main machines for years now without any problems. Think of it as Uncononical’d Ubuntu in a way but they’re really committed to making a unique footprint
