issung··on Reverse Engineering Unknown File Formats with ImHex
I... can't say I experienced any of these issues. I also had no idea there was a browser demo. Just opened it up and opened a zip with no issues. Are you using some obscure OS & experimental browser combo?
issung··on Reverse Engineering Unknown File Formats with ImHex
I finally dipped into using ImHex when doing some reversing of the PS2 memory card format for https://ps2iodb.com.

The program is so good, and has enough of a reputation that I knew to reach for it even though I know nothing about reversing, and that was 3-4 years ago now! Also shoutout to the awesome GUI library is uses; https://github.com/ocornut/imgui

issung··on Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY actually scales
My recommendation to everyone out there willing to put in the effort of writing an article; don't put a naff low effort AI generated image at the top of it (or anywhere in it..). It turns me off before I've even read the first word.
issung··on Tailscale state file encryption no longer enabled by default
My Tailscale was broken for the past month and I only just fixed it yesterday, and today this patch is released that would have made it a non-issue.

Updating my BIOS caused the issue. The main problem was that Tailscale's behaviour was very poor in this case. It simply got stuck "Starting" and never provided any error information.

Wow this has some great stuff, thanks for sharing!
issung··on Rules on Re-Submission?
They're all hosted via on the Internet Archive and embedded into the page, I couldn't really put all the images inside my Git repository my blog is hosted from, and wanted permanent hosting. If it's slow I can't help that unfortunately sorry.
issung··on 1584 LAN party photos from 1996 – 2010 from Australia's island state archived
Hi everyone. Today I finished my latest project which was archving 1584 photos (+2 videos) of LAN parties in Tasmania ranging from 1996 to 2010. Previously these photos were lost to time until I got in contact with the right people. Looking through the photos is a great blast of nostalgia, I hope you get some enjoyment from looking through them too!

Wow all the way back in 2013, I have visited it many times over the last 11 years :)

issung··on Why anti-cheat software utilizes kernel drivers (2020)
Valorant (game using kernel anti-cheat) is made by Riot Games, which is owned by Tencent (since 2011) a Chinese company with heavy ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

[1] "According to a report by Sina Tech in October 2017, Tencent employed over 7,000 members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ... "With over 7,000 CCP members, accounting for approximately 23% of the total workforce, and more than 60% of whom are core technical personnel, the number of CCP members at Tencent is increasing by nearly a thousand every year." [2] "The Tencent Party Member Activity Center has a dedicated CCP member activity area of more than 6,000 square meters. More than 1 million yuan is allocated for CCP activities per year."

As someone who plays games every day, with ~3000 hours in Counter Strike at a decently high level. I've only ever encountered blatant hackers maybe 3 times in the last 10 years. I definitely do not care enough to start allowing random companies Kernel level access to my machine.

issung··on We shrunk our Javascript monorepo git size
Having someone in arms reach to help out that knows the inner workings of Git so much must be a lovely perk of working on such projects at companies of this scale.
issung··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
A community project to archive PlayStation 2 save game icon assets, and make them viewable/downloadable for free in your browser! We've built a small community and are approaching the 20% archival mark :)

issung··on Text makeup – a tool to decode and explore Unicode strings
I never knew emoji variants and stuff worked like that.. Fantastic tool, intuitive interface.
issung··on Stability.ai – Introducing Stable Video 3D
> Stable Video 3D (SV3D) is a generative model based on Stable Video Diffusion that takes in a still image of an object as a conditioning frame, and generates an orbital video of that object.

So can it actually output a 3d model? Or just images of what it thinks the object would look like from other angles?

issung··on Postgres is eating the database world
Alright I'm convinced, I'm using postgres for my next project. Anyone have any experiences with it and Entity Framework Core?
issung··on Goodbye non-KISS appliances
He seems to note that the fridge is french-door a hell of a lot, does this actually impact the cooling mechanics, making them more complicated and prone to break? Or is it just a coincidence all of the overly complicated fridges happen to be french door because they look "fancier"? Fridge experts please weigh in.

issung··on Was Y Combinator worth it?
How do I get involved in the community? I have no real passion for founding, but could be considered by most to be a "10x developer" I enjoy working on challenging projects, not necessarily coming up with business ideas.

issung··on Kill dwm.exe on Windows for less input lag and better performance
Would really appreciate an explanation in the README about how/why this works. WinAeroTweaker is a good example of a program that does things to your OS the OS probably doesn't want you to do, but has an explaination of how/why it works for every different option so you can feel slightly more comfortable.
issung··on Is ORM still an anti-pattern?
I purely use EFCore for managing migrations easily, almost all queries end up complicated enough or need atomicity so I write them as raw, the automatic object mapping is just a nice bonus.

issung··on Apple busts iOS 17 leaker with spycraft ‘canary trap’
Guy has genuinely ruined his and his siters's life over some stupid little details about some phone operating system, was it worth it? I really don't understand the people who regular these 10 different apple-centric forums, either readers/posters. Who cares about tiny design changes or a different bevel? Go for a walk, start a family.
