isodev··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
> blame whoever decided it was a great idea to pay executives in stock/stock options

Yes, I do agree that extreme forms of capitalism are responsible for ruining practically every aspect of modern tech.

> Apple ran so hard on privacy with (apparently) the explicit intention of creating a market for their ad products

Indeed. It wasn't obvious at the time, but with hindsight we can see that the push for privacy was only in areas where Apple wanted to counter Meta/competitors or gain advantage in specific verticals. It was never "user focused".

isodev··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
> he sold out his customers

I think it's important to remind ourselves that the responsibility doesn't lie with the one individual. Even the visit to the WH dinner - it is the company, Apple, via various structures committed to doing those things with various VPs and staff onboard brainstorming and supporting along the way.

So "John" may bring some nuances but let's not be under the illusion that a huge corporation like Apple would suddenly bounce off to a different track.

isodev··on Ask HN: If AI disappeared today, how much would you ask for in salary to work?
How do you mean? If AI disappeared today, not much would change about my work. I make software.
isodev··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
No, it doesn't. That there are different words for it should be a hint it's different things.
isodev··on ATProto spaces: A new extension to ATProto that enables non-public data
It's kind of shocking that nowhere in the discussions we see references to the IDSA (https://internationaldataspaces.org/). Most of ATproto seems to be based on data space concepts with a strange level of "we don't like RDF" layer applied on top.

I hope the growing mess of lexicons would eventually trigger them to self correct and look more into reusing (and encouraging) existing ontologies (schema.org or any number of others).

isodev··on We Rebuilt the Linux MicroVM Stack on Apple Silicon
Because prices? Have you seen how much Apple products cost these days?

Also, M1/M2 are perfectly fine and capable hardware. It's hard to justify the upgrade outside some artificial constraints Apple would bring in with a macOS update.

isodev··on Error by AI scribe during medical appointment leaves patient devastated
It's really more about stakes. A human taking notes (and being familiar with the protocols) will of course pay attention to elements with significant or critical consequences. AIs are just text generators, they don't have a notion of consequences or risks...
isodev··on Claude Code weekly limits reduce by a third tomorrow
I don't know, we've been the tiny hamsters in the biggest A/B test ever, I'm possibly very tired of the token/limits game. This is clearly not how this can be monetised (if that's even possible)
isodev··on How Bluesky draws its logo on screenshots
if only there was some kind of app review process... but Apple doesn't care.

I guess the Bluesky bros got inspired by Threads, again.

Ah yes, slavery
isodev··on Grok 4.6 scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index
But can you trust any number or metric coming out of SpaceX given everything? Also you mean their own compute like the illegal data centre turbines?

isodev··on Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work
Wait, isn’t that what Mistral does for their Vibe interface for companies?
isodev··on Apple is getting this wrong
Or relying on iCloud for “sensitive product designs”
isodev··on LLM Honeypot
Nobody should use React to make a website in 2026 unless they’ve been forced to.
isodev··on Micro-SaaS Is Dead. Service With A Software Replaces It
It’s very difficult to read. It would’ve been better for you to just write it in your native language
isodev··on Codeberg Bans Cryptocurrency Projects
> But inflicting a subjective moral judgement on an entire category of software

Apple does the same with the App Store btw, are you “staying very far away from” smartphones because of that censorship?

isodev··on The Growing Compute Shortage
The issue is that this will be another vision pro. The issue is that every year, we take device and services price increase (which of course nobody can do anything about because Apple-Google is a cartel based in the US where consumer protection is not even in the dictionary but that's a different topic probably) and nobody keeps track of just how much these things cost for a "not an influencer / person who works in tech / friend of the president" household.
isodev··on The Growing Compute Shortage
I feel this post is blind to many of the secondary side effects of this "shortage". The rapid increase in prices and delivery times is having deleterious effects on all things tech - everything from phones to smart appliances and all sorts of gadgets has moved into unreachable price levels.

Just imagine, if the rumours are true and Apple's 'foldable' phone costs 2500€ or more - who is going to buys this? So much of Apple's ecosystem depends on enough users consuming services, buying apps and using their phones to facilitate digital interactions. I've been waiting for 2 months to get a new mac mini for our office lab, and the Studios have moved into "we can't really justify this expense" price range.

So the framing that AI is inevitable or projections that put the world into a year or more of this "scarcity", where people can no longer afford non-entry level gadgets, are just naive IMO.

isodev··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
Imagine how cool it would be if actual competition prevents Anthropic or OpenAI from becoming an Apple/Google kind of cartel. I don’t care if it comes from China or not.
isodev··on The EU is about to sell our most sensitive data to the US for visa-free travel
Also worth nothing that if you’ve verified your ID on LinkedIn or anything that uses Persona or some other flavour of Palantir - the US already has all this data and much more.
isodev··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
> the beauty of atproto means that you are in no way tied to the VC funded company behind the web app

This is false: you’re tied to both tangled (unless you want to self host a forge, which if you did you wouldn’t have picked tabgled) and Bluesky for your login to keep working (unless you want to self host a complex constellation of social media components).

isodev··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
GitHub - sensible folks have more than one account with access to critical bits. The really important things are probably mirrored.

Bluesky’s decentralisation is a “yes but it’s complicated and you can’t _just_ do anything”. I like that they’re experimenting with “apps” but source control feels a bit too far.

isodev··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
Apparently, that’s not enough. You will also need your own “app view” which means you will be self hosting an over engineered forge with social features you can’t use… so why go that road to begin with is beyond me tbh.
isodev··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
And we don’t complain about that because nobody uses “sign in with google” for mission critical stuff. It’s absolutely a choice to tie all your things to a single corp.
isodev··on EU ban on destruction of unsold clothes and shoes enters into application
As a mid sized business in touch with other mid-sized businesses - the burden you speak of doesn't exist. If you read the directive and others like it carefully, you will find they’re well integrated into reporting you already do. Each member state also adapts these to best fit their local legislation.
isodev··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
Picture this: someone “moderates” your bluesky account for some unrelated reason and you’re no longer able to manage your own source codes…
isodev··on Why do AI company logos look like buttholes? (2025)
Or perhaps the logo is a depiction of us, the little "products" running around burning and paying for tokens... we're certainly more receptive after a few months of subscription softening-up.
isodev··on First atmosphere found on Earth-like planet in habitable zone of distant star
Was it my comment you really wanted to reply to? My point is that there are things we can do right now/today in order to heal our society from the sort of malignancies that distract us from advancing as a race.

isodev··on Apple targets dozens of OpenAI employees with legal letters
Why are we taking Apple’s side here? They made accusations, nothing had been proven yet.

Who is to say Apple employees (at Apple) haven’t been vibe coding or asking gpt for technical topics? Also, funny timing from Apple - there is a lot of PR and optics riding on this lawsuit.
