ireadzalot··on Looking for Work After 25 Years of Octave
Just donated to the J W. Eaton Consulting. Thank you for octave. I used it throughout the Andrew Ng's ML course.
ireadzalot··on The Groovy project is looking for a new home
I hope they can find a model like how Django (Python) has its own foundation to support it. With Gradle being defacto build tool for Android ecosystem and companies like Netflix using it, it feels like they would have no problem with finding a new home/raising-fund for future.

I have been using Groovy and Grails for less than a year now and love it so far.

ireadzalot··on Trello Spins Out of Fog Creek With $10.3M
Kudos to Trello team! I use it everyday to track my personal work. I used it on web and on mobile apps.
ireadzalot··on A relaunch for The New Yorker, with high stakes
Now, if they stopped using that crappy app that can't even do a background download and come up with a better app, that would make the redesign more complete.
ireadzalot··on Rdio is Now Free on the Web
Just subscribed!
ireadzalot··on Amazon Wants To Offer Its Smartphone for Free. Who Will Follow?
Except it is not free. You pay for the phone in monthly installments when you pay your phone bill.
ireadzalot··on Google Reader shutting down
One of the first 2 sites I go to when I launch my browser in the morning everyday (gmail and reader). I will sorely miss it.
ireadzalot··on WebKit for Developers
Is anyone aware of any resources that shows you how to setup your machine to see how an HTML page is rendered in Webkit, step by step, like remote debugging?
ireadzalot··on Apple - Think Twice
I have the Macbook Pro that keeps making a constant white noise right after the machine boots up. The sound is loud enough when I am by myself that it totally distracts me. I have had 3 mac laptops before and this is the loudest one by bar. After I compared my machine with a close friend who has an exact machine (same late October last year generation), I realized that the machine had some issues.

I took it to the apple store. They said they tested it and could not "hear" the noise. So they wouldn't do anything about it. Yet when I put my macbook pro next to any laptop, everyone can tell my laptop is the loudest.

I have become one of their disappointed customers.

ireadzalot··on Free worldwide calls for a month
Their definition of "worldwide" only includes 40 countries.
ireadzalot··on Turn.js 4th Release is out and amazing
I looked at the samples in your github project. All the samples there have jpegs as pages. Do you have something similar to the demo on the live site (html instead of image files)? Nice work.
ireadzalot··on The Future of JavaScript
In my experience, the charm of simplicity of JS starts fading away when you start moving away from DOM manipulation and start writing complex objects. Just last week I ran into the lexical scoping issue ( I was not aware of it before) that had me scratching my head for hours. Scoping in JS becomes less fun the deeper you start digging. I am glad that they are aware of it and are actively trying to address it.
ireadzalot··on I want to help you learn or practice iOS development
This is great! I have coreData specific question that I could really use help with. I am signing up for a meeting with you.
ireadzalot··on Oblivious Supreme Court poised to legalize medical patents
To add to your point about the justices, Chief Justice Roberts is on the record for saying that it is not unusual for him to go through 20-25 drafts before he signs off his opinion on a case. You can watch him saying that here: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/286078-1

His says this around 42:45 min into the video.

ireadzalot··on Siri’s first real competition hits Android phones today [video]
Do you know that you can add Phonetic first and last names to your contacts? I had the same problem in the beginning, but slowly I started adding phonetic names to my most often used contacts and now it works great.
ireadzalot··on Stanford to host more online classes
Can someone please explain a little about HCI? For example, how it applies to real world, types of things you learn in class etc.
ireadzalot··on Play Framework 2.0 Beta & integration into Typesafe Stack
How much xml based configuration is used in Play? I am currently using Spring and slowly all the xml configs are starting to haunt me.
ireadzalot··on printf("goodbye, Dennis");
I always felt weird doing this. Almost always I turn to their Obit page when I get a new issue. Glad to know I am not the only one who does it.
ireadzalot··on Immigrant entrepreneur arrested to meet quotas
It should be acknowledged that Australians have a special and easy way for coming to US and getting permanent residency. For example, if an Australian wanted to start a business in US, you are automatically qualified to apply for residency right away. (My information is based on what an Australian couple told me 5 years ago in the US).
ireadzalot··on iCloud beta
It just let me in. I am a paid member as well. You may have to wait for a couple of hours and try again.
ireadzalot··on The New Tech Bubble
What do you say to the fact that Skype just sold for $8.5 billion when it's income is only about $400 million? And there is Color that is valued at $100 million even though its product is in almost-beta? Anyone who has watched the tech. industry for the past few years could notice that the way valuation of tech. companies are going up, it is alarming and exude "exuberance".

(Figures mentioned above are from the original article).

ireadzalot··on The New Tech Bubble
From the article: This time is indeed different, though not because the boom-and-bust cycle has miraculously disappeared. It is different because the tech bubble-in-the-making is forming largely out of sight in private markets and has a global dimension that its predecessor lacked.
ireadzalot··on Why no company that values their data should ever "Go Google"
Cyberduck allows to you bulk download them as well at once.
ireadzalot··on Django 1.3 released
Class-based generic view is a nice addition. I remember when I was learning Django and going through the official tutorial, that was one part that took me a while to understand. Kudos guys!
ireadzalot··on Google to Launch Major New Social Network Called Circles, Possibly Today
It seems like their idea of social network is modelled after Path.com's model of only having very close friends' special circle. Path turned down Google's offer to buy them few months ago.
ireadzalot··on Why Silicon Valley Immigrant Entrepreneurs Are Returning Home
People with marketable skills and talents will eventually move to destinations that will favor them best. In the past and up to now, it has been the US. Tomorrow it could be Brazil, India, China etc. One of the best things about working in hi-tech sector is borders do not necessarily limit your potential to implement your ideas. Governments have the option to decide how welcoming they want to be.
ireadzalot··on How do programmers in the west see programmers in the east?
Part of it has to do with the fact that countries in the east have high brain drain problem. Those who are smarter end up in some college/univ. in the West. If you are in the US, look at the some of the best CS colleges and the number of foreign students studying CS - quite diverse and lots of students from East.
ireadzalot··on Ask HN: How Many of You Are Like Me?
Sometimes I don't comment because the other comments seems so well-thought-out and expertly laid out. Level of knowledge of some HN commenters is almost intimidating sometimes.
ireadzalot··on How Apple took nine weeks to arbitrarily reject our app
Didn't Apple say something along the line of "No more fart apps anymore" when they updated their App store approval guidelines last time around?
ireadzalot··on Ask HN : Which opensource project for beginner python developer
