iqanq··on Text Rendering Hates You (2019)
ascii using cleartype seems to work fine for me, I don't see the issue.
iqanq··on On the Future of 12ft
No, because when you read an article a copy is made and sent to you. You are not depriving anybody from anything.
iqanq··on The once-extinct aurochs may soon roam Europe again
Why the downvotes here? This is true. They are devastating. Obviously that doesn't matter to the urbanites whose livelihoods aren't put in danger.

iqanq··on Asus and DD-WRT – don't even think about it
ASUS lets you flash whatever you want. The router firmware scene died for the same reason that the Android firmware scene died: manufacturer firmwares stopped sucking so people don't have an incentive to waste their time flashing stuff anymore.
iqanq··on CORS is not meant to secure an API endpoint
If you have a lock with no keys, it is secure, since it can't be opened. As soon as you have one key, the lock is less secure, because now the lock can be opened.
iqanq··on Corrected identification of object about to hit the moon
The fact that they have published this without even verifying it is the best proof that they have a bias or even an agenda, yes.
iqanq··on Corrected identification of object about to hit the moon
The media and organisations like the ESA have their biases and agendas.
iqanq··on Corrected identification of object about to hit the moon
What is surprising is that in 2022 people believe everything that they read.
iqanq··on Tell HN: Voting on HN Fails Silently
I recommend users to create a new account as soon as they notice something funny (like comments that get marked as dead automatically, votes/flags that stop counting, stupid ratelimits, etc)
iqanq··on Tell HN: Voting on HN Fails Silently
You did not trigger anything, they take your privileges manually. But I don't know if it's permanent.

iqanq··on Discord is a black hole for information
I don't care if Discord sees my ip/email, but I really, really don't want other users to see them.
iqanq··on What kind of Apple Mac did Arthur Dent have?
And the original question says:

>Was it a snazzy little all in one number, or a hideous boxy thing?

Which would also say something about the character.

iqanq··on What kind of Apple Mac did Arthur Dent have?
...yet he still chose to specify that his computer was an Apple computer, and not just a computer.
iqanq··on Discord is a black hole for information
Discord is a chat program. Chat comes and goes. The fact that search sucks is a feature. If you need a good search feature, good categorisation, etc then you need a forum or something similar. People use Discord because they don't want a forum, they want a chat.

I was expecting something regarding LD_PRELOAD.
iqanq··on Are you in a Religious Cult? Take the test
HN is one of the most echo chamberish communities on the internet and there are people who want them to be even more closed!
iqanq··on Are you in a Religious Cult? Take the test
I read all of this and it reminds me of the response to COVID.

Ultimate authorities, no critical thinking, only believe approved sources, those who don't believe the authority are "deceived, backslidden, demonic, bitter, evil", the end of the world is near if you don't do as we say, they are always right even when they are wrong, family separation...

>But this is a technical document about browser features, I'm a little frustrated that this is being coordinated over a proprietary SaaS service instead of over Git[0] with markdown or something.

Then maybe the public SaaS services should be of a better quality so that Mozilla employees want to use them.

>I think a lot more than that, I'm frustrated that the document is being made publicly available on that platform. When someone links to a web standard on Github, often it's because the standard is seeing active participation. For something that is being linked to a public view, I would have loved to see at least a PDF export or something.

There is a PDF export for google docs which is available to all users. File > Download > PDF.

iqanq··on Ask HN: Should I give my employer all my medical records?
