Unlocking the gallery sucks. It'll make users spam random clicks and worsen your data quality.
ipsum2··on The DeepMind Institute
Tl;DR: It's not a new organization, or non-profit institute. It's a Substack/blog.

> DMI is a platform for researchers and thinkers from across Google DeepMind, Google, and the wider global research community to work on and publish creative, deeply informed ideas about a world with AGI. They will not always agree, and they will likely change their minds, as more data and information comes to light at the fast-moving frontier. We created this institute precisely because broad-based intellectual discussion and debate are required to arrive at a consensus about how to address the challenges and opportunities we face as a society.

ipsum2··on Show HN: Nari Qwen3-TTS and Qwen3-ASR – High accuracy, low latency and cost
If you're going to announce a TTS model, service, or whatever, you really need demos.
ipsum2··on How the Chorleywood Bread Process transformed British bread
You can buy pure gluten powder (sold as "vital wheat gluten") and add it to get the equivalent of the Canadian flour.
ipsum2··on YuE2 · Frontier Music with Symbolic Planning
You can ask it to generate acapella.
ipsum2··on YuE2 · Frontier Music with Symbolic Planning
The model was trained on CC0, "royalty-free" music, so the outputs are going to sound a bit bland and generic. Model is not currently possible to finetune without the semantic tokenizer.
ipsum2··on iPhone Duo
After watching some reviews of the Duo, I'm convinced that Steve Jobs would have never let the inner panel be matte while the outer panel was glossy. It's too inconsistent and inelegant.
ipsum2··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
I'm sure they all do. Whether an air gap is warranted is evidently less obvious.
ipsum2··on Launch HN: RonanRX (YC S26) – Personalized Peptides and GLP-1s
You probably not want this to show up in discovery documents when you do get sued. Pretend you didn't know about it.
ipsum2··on Launch HN: RonanRX (YC S26) – Personalized Peptides and GLP-1s
Off by one letter compared to "Roman", which is a GLP prescriber farm, but you already knew this :). Hoping for a lawsuit to boost your fame?

ipsum2··on Muse Spark 1.3
Yes. It's really up to OpenAI/Anthropic to release a new paradigm to shift the curve now, before everyone catches up entirely.
ipsum2··on Muse Spark 1.3
All of the links show "Error: Gist API returned 403".
ipsum2··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
The easiest one to think about is that the larger the company (or division), the more likely there are leaks. Think about how much as leaked in Apple's hardware or software division. If they were doing incredibly underground marketing, someone would've bragged on LinkedIn or to a reporter.
ipsum2··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
Apple's marketing isn't that smart. They're very traditional. You give them way too much credit.
ipsum2··on SolarWindow launches 0.85 mm-thick, self-adhesive solar film
This is vaporware. I've been hearing about this sort of technology for the last 20 years. Hope to be proven wrong someday.

Here's a similar article from 2013, talking about a paper from 2005:

https://www.fastcompany.com/1681384/you-may-soon-just-spray-...

"Some day, homeowners eager to produce their own energy might not line their roofs with solar panels. Instead, they’ll spray-paint them with a mist full of electricity-generating solar cells."

ipsum2··on StemDeck, a free, open-source and local AI stem separator
This is just a wrapper of htdemucs, if anyone's wondering if it was a new/better model.
ipsum2··on Mojo is now open source
Prediction: Chris Lattner will be off chasing some other shiny thing within a year. Without a strong champion, the company will be subsumed into Qualcomm and stop publishing meaningful updates.
ipsum2··on Field measurements of neighborhood-scale air temperature impacts of data centers
You described the company Crusoe. They've been building datacenters that do exactly what you said.

https://www.crusoe.ai/resources/blog/understanding-the-probl...

> Crusoe has built their business around turning flaring from an operational and regulatory risk for oil and gas companies, as well as an existential risk for our planet, into a multi-solve solution. Crusoe doesn’t just mitigate flaring emissions. They capture the gas, convert it into energy, and use it to power computing infrastructure.

Edit: Crusoe sold its bitcoin-mining operation including the Digital Flare Mitigation business to NYDIG in 2025, so the above may be inaccurate.

ipsum2··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
Sorry, that "just-so" explanation is not how the world works.
ipsum2··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
I doubt that your beanie babies are very rare.
ipsum2··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
Do you understand that many of these publishers do not have the original copy anymore, and may have gone out of business entirely? 50 years ago text was not backed up to the cloud.
ipsum2··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
What if the book has been out of print for 50 years? This isn't a contrived scenario, most of the rare books are like this.
ipsum2··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
Brave adblocking breaks some websites that uBlock Origin doesn't.
ipsum2··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
Brave is great. Works across windows/mac/ios/android/linux.
ipsum2··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
It would be fine if it worked. I wish I could replace Gemini on my phone with chatGPT.
ipsum2··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
Recently my android phone updated from Google assistant to Gemini Flash. Completely unusable. Asking it to play music and it refuses, hallucinating instructions to connect Spotify to Gemini. The instructions say to tap buttons that don't exist.

Bonus feature from Gemini: a toggle to opt back into Google Assistant, but it doesn't work. Still stuck with Gemini.

ipsum2··on Show HN: iPhone app takes simultaneous images from 2 lenses, fuses into 1 photo
That's not what's being described here. It's just combining the telephoto and wide angle photos.

ipsum2··on U.S. Department of Energy Launches the Genesis Open Models Initiative
There's a bunch of American open models. Inkling, Nemotron, Trinity come to mind, but I'm sure there's others.
