"My company has onsite mental health professionals who you can talk to or call at any time."

Can't see that coming to bite you.

ipaddr··on So you want to use OpenRouter?
They already succeed selling for 7 billion. Auditing is up to you and can be a new business for those looking for new opportunties.

Political correctness, woke/cancel culture, whatever you want to call it, is not censorship

Cancel culture is literally censorship. Deplatforming is censorship. Debanked is censorship.

I don't know what the R word is but there is a group of people you can't even look down at because they have been deplatformed and cancelled.

The left has passed laws and people do get jail time for social media posts in the UK.

The Christian right was trying to ban books in the 70s/80s. Fought heavy metal music in the 80s. Then you have 911 censorship. But after 2008 the left brought woke to power which saw banning people from twitter, social media, right speech. Then we reached covid which saw banning of facts. Deplatforming / banning / doxing became the norm until the return of Trump who then moved the needle and started pro Jewish censorship which has pushed the needle for the anti Jewish censorship crew which is taking over.

They satire society and that changes with who is in power. A cartoon that can have pc principal then rebrand him as religious maga fan when the tide changes also satires people who shift who they are when the world changes.

PC Principal has an interesting arc when he hooks up with strong woman and has pc babies who reject his transformation and then ultimately accept him.

ipaddr··on Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities
The population of the west who fit into zoomer near millennials wouldn't even be close to 500m. Maybe if we add threads bots we could get closer. Most of the accounts are bots/fake/not used anymore.

90% of zoomers don't have an account, most rarely use it and don't add more than a few photos for social proof.

ipaddr··on An Alien Mind
Humans shun anti-social drug addicts but encourages social drug addicts like coffee drinkers

"I can't really think of a single example where lying is actually a good thing"

Lying to save a life or rape

Lying to preserve a childhood myth like Santa Claus.

Lying to avoid hurting someones feeling when knowing the truth could only bring pain

Lying to create shared cultural myths to strength society.

Lying isn't the harm you make it out to be.

ipaddr··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
In fairness once you've seen a movie its value drops with most never getting a second viewing. Them having the ability to take back that awful movie doesn't hurt as much as a song.
ipaddr··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
Piracy existed before, during and after. Things are getting expensive and profits are increasing because growth has slowed and investors want either growth in users or profits.
ipaddr··on Ask HN: What would happen if your company stopped using all AI tomorrow?
No much added and nothing lost. Even my AI side project would fall back to software that works without AI enhancements.
ipaddr··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
That case can be made for anyone over 35+ and rebounds for the 60+ group who have time for activism and political conversations. Take the vote away from 35-60 year olds?
ipaddr··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
Then you push the coalitions forming outside of the party process to parliament where voters have no say compared to forming coalitions to within the party where party members have a say.
ipaddr··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
60 year old people are better informed compared to 20-30 year olds and more involved and vote more often. Your ageism lacks logic.
ipaddr··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
If 51% of the population weakly wanted something they would lose the vote because most wouldn't bother voting. Didn't happen here.
ipaddr··on Lawmakers added $1 to car insurance policies. That money paid for Flock cameras
If you put that on the ballot in other states this would be more popular than initially thought by most.
ipaddr··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
No one takes a 12 year old Reddit account seriously either. It's not a platform you can take anyone seriously. The biggest trolls have 12 year old accounts.
ipaddr··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
The emails were from 201* not 2023.
ipaddr··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
Usually the wife in a rich Jewish family in 2001 would bring the kids to school not the husband. Today no as much. Doesn't mean everyone but it is strange.
ipaddr··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
So you agree with me unless you think the furthest right is Fox News which it's not by far.
ipaddr··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
That article tells me 4chan wasn't a honeypot but used by Epstein for his chaos or at least he thought about using it.
ipaddr··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
MSNBC is as far left as Fox news is far right.

So she doesn't enjoy her job and only works there because you can't make up the $15 hour difference between her working in a book store for minimum wage vs her working for $30 an hour? Why don't you take a part time job on the weekend to lighten her load? There are many people who become a nurse because its a calling.
ipaddr··on Ask HN: What is one simple thing LLMs are insanely bad at?
Generating money or profitable ideas
ipaddr··on Peppermint oil reduces blood pressure by 8.48 mmHg in small study
I think its reducing bloating.
ipaddr··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Its true im many places. First generation hard working. Second generation lives in the inprint of the first generation. Third generation has no connection to the original homeland and tries to find connection or it turns to antisocial behaviour.
ipaddr··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
America has a low social cohension because of global immigration instead of targeted immigration compare to China. America use to share a culture because people came from the same places and shared the same religion and had a common history going back to the Romans.
ipaddr··on Coding Agents killed my identity. How do you feel?
As an older programmer being able to not waste my mental space with details and the churn of newer frameworks allows me to explore projects I wanted to build for years but lack the time and energy I had in my 20s.

The goal was being able to make things and I've judged my abilities on how much faster I can do things year after year. This speeds things up on one side but creates this backlog of things that need testing.

I still love programming but I always preferred the language and style I used 30 years ago. I've been forced to adapt to newer ways, frameworks and different methods to keep up with the times. Using AI is the new react/angularjs frontend pattern of 2015. All of these new patterns were less satisfying then what we had before.

For me I'm doing things I couldn't find time before and polishing areas I could but weren't high quality enough.

Paying for AI is a struggle mentally and trying to find a good balance is part of the newer challenge. A codex subscription gets used up too quickly or I can't find enough tasks to use up my subscription and both states cause mental burden. At work trying to maximum output while keeping within a reasonable token usage level is a struggle. Local models using cpu can do a lot for free but need to be carefully planned to limit scope. Using free opencode models works but code quality can fall apart so carefully balancing that can be hard. The code quality of top end models looks awful but can be better if you want to spend time on that aspect and trying to balance that with token usage is hard.

My biggest wonder is if job interviews are testing that you can hand code still but forcing you to use llms when hired.

ipaddr··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
The genitals inspections are a result of trans issue. Not concerning yourself with one issue that creates the issue you dislike is shortsighted.

I agree with "seen as" vibes think of the children era being foolish but its what liberal parents are talking about. Mega followers never accepted trans in sport or life so this doesn't change viewpoints.

It affects woman and parents of girls. It's seen as men taking things women had to struggle to get and safety issues. I can see how it would affects women in general but I agree has little affect on those men who do not watch sports and are not pro women.
