inyourtenement··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
So nothing specific? They were mad at him?

And Dean Phillips did run in the primary, so again, nobody stopped him. Biden defeated him.

inyourtenement··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
How did Democratic insiders prevent other candidates from running in the primaries?

I'm a fan of lihaoyi's response to similar tracking accusations.

inyourtenement··on Universal Basic Income Has Been Tried over and over Again. It Works Every Time
This is false, and is explained by the block of text below that chart. The definition of M1 was changed. Notice the addition of savings and money market accounts.

Thank you for demonstrating the lack of critical thinking I was describing.

> Before May 2020, M1 consists of (1) currency outside the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve Banks, and the vaults of depository institutions; (2) demand deposits at commercial banks (excluding those amounts held by depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign banks and official institutions) less cash items in the process of collection and Federal Reserve float; and (3) other checkable deposits (OCDs), consisting of negotiable order of withdrawal, or NOW, and automatic transfer service, or ATS, accounts at depository institutions, share draft accounts at credit unions, and demand deposits at thrift institutions.

> Beginning May 2020, M1 consists of (1) currency outside the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve Banks, and the vaults of depository institutions; (2) demand deposits at commercial banks (excluding those amounts held by depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign banks and official institutions) less cash items in the process of collection and Federal Reserve float; and (3) other liquid deposits, consisting of OCDs and savings deposits (including money market deposit accounts). Seasonally adjusted M1 is constructed by summing currency, demand deposits, and OCDs (before May 2020) or other liquid deposits (beginning May 2020), each seasonally adjusted separately.

I think “make redundant” in this context means “fire”.
inyourtenement··on Universal Basic Income Has Been Tried over and over Again. It Works Every Time
Agreed, but this is such a red flag that a commenter is not thinking critically. Do they really think we quadrupled the money supply in a short time? And the only effect was 10% inflation? Usually that would disprove all of their other assumptions about the relationship between the money printer and inflation.

inyourtenement··on Autofill in password managers can allow login credentials to be stolen
Your first point doesn't really seem valid when comparing manual to automatic autofill. When I manually autofill, my password manager will show a suggested list of matching passwords. off1ce.com would not suggest my Office password, so I would still be alerted to a phishing site.
inyourtenement··on Why do recipe writers lie about how long it takes to caramelize onions? (2012)
Honestly, all those rules about caring for cast iron are kind of nonsense. I clean mine with dish detergent all the time. I'll oil a pan before storing if it doesn't get used often, but for frequently used pans, the cooking process is enough to keep them seasoned.

inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
Completely irrelevant. There were an estimated 274k hospitalizations from swine flu, over the course of that year. So swine flu did not have the characteristics I specified.

inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
It's per 100k people in the state. It makes no difference if it's 100 or 100k. The comparison was state-to-state. The absolute numbers don't matter.

inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
Because it was not transmitted by breathing. jfc.
inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
When you say "observed drop in deaths" are you referring back to the original article? Because the first sentence is "Two new peer-reviewed studies are showing a sharp drop in mortality among hospitalized COVID-19 patients." so I'm having trouble making sense of what you're saying.
inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
Are deaths the only thing that matters to you? Shouldn't we be just as concerned about hospitalizations? Is there any reason that you're aware of for cases to not be a good proxy for hospitalizations?
inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
Arbitrary!?

This is nonsense. Are you suggesting that if this illness had all the same characteristics -- long hospital stays, long-lasting damage to the body, highly transmissible -- but didn't kill, then we would not be "shutdown"?

inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
By what metric? The top states by total cases per 100k are all red and purple.

inyourtenement··on Studies Point to Big Drop in Covid-19 Death Rates
What are you referring to? The bulk of the article is about hospitals having more experience and standardizing protocols. Then they mention masks and social distancing as possibly reducing the viral load. They never mention "flattening the curve", but one of the last things they mention is keeping hospitals under capacity.
inyourtenement··on Git: Deletion of merged branches taken beyond shell hacks
That might be a way to remember what it does, but I don't think that's how it works. Try doing `echo <(ls)` to see how it differs. Or, from the manpage:

> Process substitution is supported on systems that support named pipes (FIFOs) or the /dev/fd method of naming open files. It takes the form of <(list) or >(list). The process list is run with its input or output connected to a FIFO or some file in /dev/fd. The name of this file is passed as an argument to the current command as the result of the expansion. If the >(list) form is used, writing to the file will provide input for list. If the <(list) form is used, the file passed as an argument should be read to obtain the output of list.
