inventtheday··on I asked 100 people in Hollywood about AI
I heard SUCH a wide range of opinions talking to people on the street in Hollywood. Had a ton of fun.

Happy to answer any questions!

inventtheday··on Show HN: GPT-3 generated Hacker News summaries in the style of n-gate.com
These seem to work pretty well. I'm doing a similar kind of summarization based with https://infobot.ai and wondering how you guys do it? Is it just GPT-3 or more complex than that?
inventtheday··on Show HN: Supabase for Embeddings
Cool thanks for sharing. I'm using Pinecone currently to build https://infobot.ai and will have to check this out.
inventtheday··on AI that generates newsletters specifically for you
Hey all, I made a system that generates investor newsletters based on your exact portfolio. What kind of features would you all want from a product like this?
inventtheday··on [dead]
Using ChatGPT to generate visions from the future. What kind of stuff would y'all want to see predictions about?
inventtheday··on Show HN: Virtual Maker – Make 3D/VR scenes in the browser
Cool! I run Spatial Ape (the VR industry trade show) and its great to see new authoring tools. Where do you see this fitting in relative to existing solutions like Unity and Unreal? Thanks for sharing!
inventtheday··on How to Start a VR Company
Hey everyone, author here. We started Spatial Ape because entrepreneurs and young professionals in the VR industry are underserved when it comes to business networking and identity tools. LinkedIn is stale and slow to adapt to a new wave of hyper digital, geographically distributed young companies and creators. Covid-19 has also prevented young companies from accessing in-person events which are often so critical to developing a business or career.

If you enjoyed the book, please stop by in VR! We do a global VR industry trade show event every Thursday, and I look forward to meeting you all. I’m happy to answer any questions.

inventtheday··on Social media addiction linked to cyberbullying
so basically, you are actually me? Cool.
inventtheday··on When will virtual reality take off? The $100 bet
ya it's a slow burn, but I think the September '20 - September '21 period will end up seeing roughly the unit sales mentioned in their bet. Quest 2 is making a large impact.
inventtheday··on Show HN: Like Hacker News for VR Startups
Thanks pearl3! Lots of great new features coming.
inventtheday··on Show HN: Like Hacker News for VR Startups
Awesome...thanks for the feedback. Totally agree with your request.
inventtheday··on Show HN: Like Hacker News for VR Startups
Hey everyone, long time fan of Hacker News here. We decided to create our own version of the HN community focused on augmented and virtual reality startups. Our weekly event, hosted in VR (bit.ly/XRMeetup) and streamed back to SpatialApe.com, gives the experience a unique twist.

We've only been live for a few weeks, but early feedback has been awesome and accompanied by strong organic growth. I'm eager for any/all feedback and hope to see some of you around!

inventtheday··on 25 Years In Speech Technology and I still don’t talk to my computer
Interestingly i've noticed that my friends who are less technically savy have actually started to use voice control on a regular basis, probably because they are more easily frustrated with the existing interaction modalities
inventtheday··on Investing in Robotics with YC Founder Trevor Blackwell [video]
couldn't that specific correlation be learned with enough data?
inventtheday··on Ask HN: Mind bending books to read and never be the same as before?
Godel Escher Bach by Hofstadter. I was never even close to the same afterwards.
inventtheday··on California governor issues statewide 'stay at home' order
yeah it would have to, right?
inventtheday··on Why to Start a Startup in a Bad Economy (2008)
I get what he's saying, but the majority of the richest people in history were born ~20 years before the early American Industrial/Steel boom or ~20 years before the internet was popularized. Macro is important from a population level perspective.
inventtheday··on Update on grade strike
Why did these people accept their positions (with full up front knowledge of their salary) if the money is not enough?
inventtheday··on How to proceed when you run out of cash, but you still believe?
its not taking the money thats the problem. spending it is the problem because it accelerates your burn rate
inventtheday··on The Typography of Blade Runner (2016)
Do you have evidence for this besides Thiel and Weinstein?
inventtheday··on The Typography of Blade Runner (2016)
Computers may not have changed the look of the world too much, but they have had an extraordinary impact on the experience of being human. If people are now spending 50% of their time on screens, its in some sense equivalent to the world looking 50% different, right?
inventtheday··on Kitty Hawk reveals its secret project, Heaviside
both
inventtheday··on “Man Becomes the Sex Organs of the Machine World” (2012)
it's worth noting that today we already have self sustaining business machines called corporations.
inventtheday··on Facebook exodus: Nearly half of young users have deleted the app
Im in the AR/VR space and the whole community is pretty much on twitter. New projects, new research, etc. get shared on twitter before anywhere else.
inventtheday··on Camera freezes time at 10 trillion frames per second
"This new camera literally makes it possible to freeze time"

It literally freezes time? Come on..

inventtheday··on Theory Suggests That All Genes Affect Every Complex Trait
Isn't abstraction just the emergence of simpler, lower fidelity, and higher density structures of information? Are we not a part of nature?
inventtheday··on America’s Teens Are Choosing YouTube Over Facebook
thats an awesome thought
inventtheday··on Netflix is now worth more than $100B
Disagree. This is hotly debated, but, i think that the growth in demand for transportation will be so staggering (when AV's are introduced) it will more than offset efficiency for a long while.
inventtheday··on Tesla posts big loss, cuts production of Models X and S to catch up on Model 3
No, because a huge cost for them right now is underutilization of assets (factory, tooling, some workers, etc.). Their utilization rate will improve, and so operating costs should not scale linearly with revenue growth. "Should" being the key word.
