intruder··on Show HN: Play the game I'm developing directly on its website
I absolutely love when products have interactive versions of their product right in their product pages.

The game looks really good, love the art style and the readability of it all.

intruder··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (December 2023)
You don't observe national holidays and only offer 20d in return? Seems like a bad deal even for a Japanese company.
intruder··on Why isn't chess popular in Japan?
There's a group meeting every Wednesday in a pub in Shibuya.

See https://www.tokyocheckmates.com/ for more info.

intruder··on Tokyo’s Manuscript Writing Cafe won't let writers leave until they are finished
Already exists, also in Tokyo: https://medium.com/opensource-cafe

you would write down a task you want to accomplish and deposit it at the cashier. Upon completion, you would say so and would get a free drink (iirc).

Was nice, I think it's closed due to Covid atm.

intruder··on Procrastinatory Doom Loops
Yea, it's just hard to come to terms with that. Ambition and success are drilled into us on a daily basis. It's hard to come to terms with maybe not fitting in and how that is okay.
intruder··on Procrastinatory Doom Loops
I relate 100%. On work commitments I can usually get it done, or when the stakes are high enough that failing would burn me hard in some way or another.

Awful, maybe one way to deal with this is to just admit that's how it is with commitments and just don't do them. I often fear that leads to a life of dullness and regret tho. The alternative is a struggle until the end of our days.

intruder··on Multiplayer in Godot 4.0: Scene Replication (Part 1)
Join a game jam! Every time I do one I think “At the end of the weekend I will have made a game”. Feels super good.

I suggest Ludum Dare nd GMTK jam. But there are many jams going on check out itch.io/jams

intruder··on NPM package ‘ua-parser-JS’ with more than 7M weekly download is compromised
I was actually about to use this package last week. Damn what a timing.
intruder··on Esbuild – An extremely fast JavaScript bundler
what are you talking about, webpack has nothing to do with Facebook or React.
intruder··on Windows98 Running in the Browser
Yep, it makes me so nostalgic. If you like this, there's a channel on twitch streaming old episodes of Computer Chronicles [1] and the optimism and excitement in it is something I just don't feel anymore nowadays.

intruder··on Porting a React Front End to TypeScript
Yes, one often overlooked benefit is the tooling that is enabled by having proper types. IDEs from jetbrain in particular are great at it.
intruder··on Show HN: Use-sound, a React hook for sound effects on the web
what?
intruder··on Eat This Much – Automatic Meal Planner
I love the loading text

Combobulate calories... Chopping onions... Crying because of onions...

intruder··on Typhoon Lands in Japan – Windy Storm-Tracking Platform
I definitely see Tama almost reaching my building too.
intruder··on Typhoon Lands in Japan – Windy Storm-Tracking Platform
Thank you.
intruder··on Typhoon Lands in Japan – Windy Storm-Tracking Platform
It spilled Tama, not sure what you mean by almost.
intruder··on At Japan’s cliffs, he's walked more than 600 people back from the edge (2018)
I live in front of a bridge in Japan and every other weekend late at night I hear/see firetrucks and ambulances rushing to the river side.

I've never seen anyone jump but I know it's happening. Sometimes there are flowers near where the person jumped.

Whenever I cross the bridge and see someone standing by the edge I always wonder if they're there for that... I've never talked to anyone. I should.

intruder··on E3: Microsoft’s next Xbox: 8K graphics, SSD storage, and ray-tracing for 2020
I did a very primitive version of this for rendering shadows for my master thesis. It sucked because of my poor accuracy eye tracker (self built) and because my approach was very naive.

Participants perceived jumps in shadow quality much harsher than lower resolution shadows.

It saved a lot of memory though, that was nice.

Microsoft has a great paper on more general foveated rendering.

intruder··on Niki Lauda has died
Niki was one of those greater than life characters, his outlook on life - especially after his famous accident - has always been an inspiration for me.

As an F1 fan, I will also miss his candid commentary on the F1 circus.

intruder··on Ask HN: Which great products didn't succeed?
Mailbox suffered the same death after dropbox acquired it.
intruder··on Snapshots of Tokyo’s vivid street life
I live in Tokyo and wish I could see it through the eyes of someone new here again. I can see it in these videos, but when I walk through the city I'm too used to it and my brain drowns out all of these things.
intruder··on Show HN: Cruip – Free landing page templates for startups
These are stunning. Reminds me of stripe's website.
intruder··on Magic Leap One Creator's Edition First Look
You could say the same thing about any early tech.
intruder··on Darpa Shows Off Some Things You Can Do with Distributed Electric Propulsion
Even non-computer aided active suspension was banned. Good readup: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/127638/f1-latest-suspensio...
intruder··on Go Fishing
Meditating.
intruder··on Ask HN: What tech were you convinced would take the world by storm but didn't?
Golem seems interesting, rent out your cpu cycles to others. I think it currently works only with Blender, i.e. you could rent out rendering-farm.
intruder··on Windy.com
The other two being Yahoo Japan and baidu?
intruder··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2017)
Are you located in a coworking space? How does that work out?
intruder··on Reddit Is Raising Funds at a Valuation of $1.7B
OT: but I feel the same about imgur. You can't use their mobile site to upload pictures anymore. You have to request the desktop site or install their app.
intruder··on StarCraft Remastered
This must feel a bit like a blow to the shieldbattery developers. I hope the community will continue using it despite this announcement.
